I’m torn about it — I don’t mind a short plug of a patreon at the end of a story, and if someone wants to put continuations behind a paywall, that’s their call. But if the first thing I see is a suggestion I go read something else I have to pay for first? That just make it most likely that I’ll go back to the main page and read something else.

And then seeing multiple versions of that tact in short order just makes me even less likely to open the author’s future stories at all. At that point, their stuff basically becomes spam.

The one thing I really don’t like? How an author name can link to a patreon site instead of the list of stories they submitted here. That, to me, is what really makes the submission look like nothing more than an advertisement.
