Would it be posssible (and not too difficult) to show the number of comments a story has received on the front page, along with the views / likes? It’s interesting to see the feedback that stories get, and there’s no way of telling at the moment, other than opening up every story.

ParticipantI think this could be interesting — I know I try to make sure I comment on stories I really like to encourage more posting, and I absolutely love getting comments on mine. At the same time, so many stories don’t get any comments, could it possibly have a negative effect? (Not a critique; just an honest question — curious as to other’s thoughts. Sometimes I’m over-sensitive about stuff like that.)

ShorngirlParticipantIf you’re an author, the comments on each story show up on your dashboard, which I find useful. Recently, I have had useful comments left by readers and other authors concerning editing of older archived stories which I have written. Comments are always visible once you open the story, at the bottom of the page. I think that it would be useful, though, to see comments left much the same as they show up in the dashboard. Many of the items that are offered by WordPress are not utilized on the front page of the site. This may be an attempt to keep things as simple as possible, and that’s not a bad thing in the long run. Anyway, I’m enjoying writing new stories and editing older ones from my library of work. This site offers the best platform for this genre of writing that I have encountered thus far.

ModeratorKlaatu48, I rarely comment for a few reasons. I only ever comment when I have something specific to say about a story, otherwise I just “like” it. I know we can all be very self-conscious when we put ourselves out there, so I could see it becoming another stat to obsess over.
But then there are times when the comments become a whole discussion that one might be interested in, so being able to see if there are new ones is relevant. Admin added the (somewhat under utilized) forum because of a discussion in comments.

ParticipantOne of the reasons I think this would be useful is because we’d be able to easily see if a story we commented on recently got other comments. Right now, if someone comments on my post I get an email, but if someone replies, the original commenter has no idea.
