Karen was ecstatic. She and her mother were going to be on the girl’s favorite tv show. The girl could not sit still on the car ride to the studio lot. Mother and Daughter drove from New Mexico to LA in a matter of days. When they arrived, the staff of directed the two to the right lot for visitors for Wacky Willy.

The girl ran to the building but her mother grabbed her hand to try and restrain some of Karen’s recklessness. They went inside the place and met more families with kids that were about Karen’s age. After a few minutes, a person over the loudspeaker said,”The Wacky Willy show will begin in five minutes, please start taking your seats”

Everyone took their seats but the children squirmed in their chairs with anticipation. The lights started to dim and someone cried,”Action!”

And there she was. Wacky Willy came out on stage with spot lights illuminating her figure. She was lengthy and slender. Her rosy cheeks and cheeky smile made her look so young. Her yellow shirt was tight to her body and her brown skirt flapped in the breeze as she danced to her theme song. The crowd went wild for the icon and bellowed the music as an echo. A side ponytail, that was synonymous with her brand, on the side of Willy’s head flung about wildly as the song reached its climax.

”Hello, boys and girls!”Willy’s sing-song voice rang out above the crowd,”How are y’all feeling today?”

A roar of excitement flooded through the building as Willy told jokes and stories. She was wrapping up a tale about a spider when she said,”Spiders can be creepy and I wouldn’t want one in my house, but do you want to know what scared me more than spiders when I was a little kid?”

”Yes!”the crowd answered.

”Daring are we?”Willy giggled,”Alright, bring out the chair!”

A barber’s chair that was kid’s size was wheeled out. Another cast member followed the chair’s direction with a white shirt in her hands. When the chair stopped, Willy continued,”Haircuts scared me more than any spider would. I hated to go to the hairdressers for even the smallest trim. Who else is afraid of getting a haircut”

Hands raised in the rows of the audience. Willy began to nod and said,”Haircuts can be scary but here at Wacky Willy’s, we conquer our fears with laughter and understanding that things that look scary can be fun. Now who wants to face their fear and get a haircut!”

Hands again raised and shouts for being picked intensified as Willy put on the white shirt the cast member gave her. Karen wasn’t keen on getting a haircut but soon she heard,”You! Come on down and let’s face this fear together!”

Karen bolted upright as the spotlight rained down on her. She looked at Willy then at her mother. Her mother smiled and egged her to down and onto the stage. Cautiously, Karen walked onto the stage as Willy came up to her and asked,”And what’s your name?”

”Karen”,the girl replied meekly.

”Well, Karen”,Willy went on,”You have such lovely, red hair”

”T-thank you”,Karen stroked the red blanket on the back of her head.

”Are you afraid of having your hair cut, sweetie?”Willy smiled.

”Yes”,the girl said.

”Well, here at Wacky Willy’s”

”We conquer our fears with laughter and understanding that things that look scary can be fun!”the crowd finished the sentence.

”That’s right”,Willy said,”Let’s conquer this fear. Come on”

Willy took Karen by the hand and lead her to the chair. The girl sat in it as Willy called out to the crowd,”Give a round of applause for Karen”

The crowd did so as another cast member came onstage with a cape in hand. Willy took the cape and wrapped it around Karen’s neck. Yet another cast member came out onto the stage and gave Willy a spray bottle filled with water and a comb. Wacky Willy used the spray bottle only for comedy and song , using only the comb on Karen’s hair. Handing off the spray bottle, a fourth cast member came on stage with clippers in her hand. Willy started to part Karen’s hair so that the majority of it was on the left side.

“What really freaked me out as a kid was this”,Willy took the clippers from the cast member and switched them on. The hum it made seemed to frighten everyone in the room. It definitely froze Karen to her seat.

”But it’s just noise”,Willy flicked the switch off,”Now, who’s ready to see Karen get a haircut!”

Again, the crowd made noise for Willy to continue. The clippers were switched back on and Willy came round Karen. Karen’s eyes widened as she saw the moving blades move in and past her front-eye view. She could feel the vibration rattling her brain. It seemed so scary at first but deep inside, Karen enjoyed the sensation. Again and again, the clippers peeled back the rows of red straw covering the right side of Karen’s head. Willy tilted the girl’s head down slightly to get the back. The clipper’s went silent and the audience clapped and cheered as Willy again parted Karen’s hair.

What was not set aside was mowed away by the return of the clippers. Willy repeated what she did to the other side to the left side of the girl’s head. When the clippers were finally killed, Willy’s voice rang out,”We need some hair gel!”

A jar was brought on stage and Willy traded the clippers for some. She got some in her hands, rubbed her hands together, and raised Karen’s remaining her up to the sky.

“And, Voila!”Willy sang out,”A round of applause for my friend Karen for facing her fears”

The crowd erupted with cheers and whoops for the young lady with the red Mohawk. After everything was cleaned up and cleared away, Karen danced as Willy serenaded everyone with the song,”I got a haircut and it rocks”.

Karen walked offstage and up to her mother who immediately took a picture of her with the her new haircut.
