Well, I made it mamma. Made it big in the country scene and got paid good with the albums I made perfectly for me and you. I wish you could have seen me on that stage, wowing those big crowds with countryside flare and style, but now it’s time to come home.
Daisy Ray Dillard was a shining star, head of the game and witty. She finished her tour down in Memphis and decided to take a break. Her tour bus was ready to take her home but Daisy thought it best she take the public transport back to Jaspers. The little, old town wasn’t much but it was her home, her pride, her joy, and her favorite place.
The young lady traveled lightly and refrained from wearing any jewelry but people still recognized her big ,puffy, auburn hair. Daisy didn’t mind signing a few autographs and telling stories to people at the bus stop and on the bus but she felt a bit uncomfortable. She wanted her fame to just disappear when she stepped off that stage but her image was still fresh in the people’s minds.
She needed to change that.
As the bus arrived in Jaspers, Daisy got off the bus and was greeted by a dozen, adoring fans. She put Jaspers on the map. Her music changed so many lives. The very town was indebted to her for her service but she wanted none of it. After signing things and taking pictures, Daisy cut through the crowd and tried to get away.
The people followed her like moths to a flame. Daisy walked down a street she didn’t know and dodged quickly into a shop as a group of people were rounding the corner. She swiftly shut the door and closed the blinds. As she took a breath, the young woman turned around to see a man lounging in the barber chair.
”You’re…”
”Yes”,Daisy replied. She noticed a picture of herself on the wall on the opposite side of the room.
”Well, what do I owe the pleasure”,the man scratched his head,”What made you decide to come back?”
”I… I missed home”,Daisy admitted,”Fame was… too much”
”It always is”,the man got up from the chair,”Maybe you just need a change of pace“
Daisy smiled. She walked over to the chair and sat in it. The barber grabbed and flipped a striped cape around the young woman. The snapping of the cape’s buttons sounded so pleasant to Daisy’s ears. This was going to happen, no one was stopping her. Then, the barber went over to the front door.
”What are you doing?”Daisy asked.
”Giving your audience the best view”,he replied, opening up the blinds. The sun glistened on Daisy’s fluffy, auburn tresses. As the barber chose his tools for the procedure, a young girl came by the window and, upon realizing who was in the chair, waved and smiled excitedly. Daisy smiled and politely waved back to her little admirer.
With everything ready, the barber took his position behind the chair and clicked on his clippers. There was a whirring sound and Daisy watched as the clippers began to push back her loose, wavy curls. More and more people happened to come across the window and watched as their idol’s hair fell onto the checkered floor. All those sacred strands piled up quickly as the barber dutifully, moving her head to and fro.
And soon. It was done. Daisy was thoroughly buzzed and shaved smooth. No lock of auburn was left on her scalp. She did look different and very beautiful.
Honestly, the barber opening the blinds ruins Daisy’s objective in getting the haircut.
She wants to become unrecognizable, now everyone will know she has a new hairstyle.
