Years had passed since that night when Hiroshi first held the buzzing razor in his trembling hands, shaving the side of Sora’s scalp while their hearts beat in nervous harmony. They had gone through school, graduation, and the uncertain years that followed. Through everything — laughter, fights, mistakes, triumphs — they had remained side by side, each step of life strengthening the bond between them.

Now, standing in the quiet of their wedding chamber, the two of them were husband and wife.

The ceremony had ended hours ago. Friends and family had departed, leaving the house bathed in the soft glow of lantern light. Sora sat before the mirror, still in her bridal kimono, her golden hair flowing free for the last time. Hiroshi’s gaze lingered on her reflection, chest tight with awe and affection.

She smiled faintly at him through the mirror. “Nervous?”

“Terrified,” he admitted, and their soft laughter mingled, light and intimate.

On the table beside them lay a small bowl of warm water, a brush lathered with soap, and a straight razor polished to a fine gleam. This was not the electric trimmer of their youth, but the old tradition — the husband’s first act on their wedding night.

Sora reached up, gathering her hair with delicate hands, tying it away with a ribbon, baring her scalp to him. Her eyes softened in the mirror. “This time, I want it all gone. Every strand. I want you to see me as only you can.”

Hiroshi swallowed hard, hands trembling as he dipped the brush into the warm lather. Slowly, carefully, he spread the frothy soap over her scalp, working it into her soft blonde hair until it clung in white waves. Sora closed her eyes, a small, serene smile touching her lips.

He picked up the razor, its weight solid and reassuring in his hand. Leaning close, he pressed the blade gently against her temple and drew it back with measured precision. The razor whispered as it sliced through the frothy hair, leaving smooth, bare skin in its wake.

Strand by strand, stroke by stroke, he worked across her head. Golden locks fell in quiet showers, pooling around her shoulders and sliding down the fabric of her robe to the floor. Sora’s breathing remained steady, her expression calm and peaceful, as if each pass of the blade lifted away the weight of the years they had endured.

Hiroshi rinsed the razor, reapplied the lather, and shaved again, ensuring no trace of stubble remained. His fingers followed the curve of her scalp, tracing the perfect, smooth lines, while Sora leaned into his touch, eyes glistening as she whispered softly, “Only yours.”

When the final strand fell, she stood, letting the robe slide from her shoulders. Her head gleamed in the lantern light, flawless and radiant. There was no hesitation, no shame, no fear — only trust.

Hiroshi’s breath caught. “You’re beautiful,” he said, voice rough with emotion.

Sora stepped into his arms, their foreheads touching, her freshly shaven scalp warm against his skin. “And now,” she murmured, “it’s really our first night.”

The bed waited, sheets turned down, the room filled with the hush of sacred intimacy. They lay together, laughter mingling with tenderness, every touch carrying the weight of years of love finally brought to this moment. For Hiroshi, it wasn’t just passion — it was every promise kept, every shared memory, every scar healed through patience and devotion.

As the night deepened, the last traces of Sora’s past faded away, leaving only the two of them, together, whole.

The morning would bring responsibilities, routines, and all the ordinary days that make up a marriage. But in that night, as Hiroshi held her close, his hand resting gently on her smooth scalp, the world felt simple.

They had made it.

Together.
