The Blackmail clause

Every single morning at St. Jude Academy began with an uncompromising ritual of immaculate vanity. For exactly forty-five uninterrupted minutes, Clara Vance stood before her gilded vanity mirror, orchestrating a masterclass in hair maintenance. Nobody at St. Jude Academy possessed hair quite like Clara’s. It was a legendary cascade of pure, rich crimson, stretching downward in an unbroken, velvety sheet all the way past her waist to rest heavily against her hips. Untouched by scissors since her early days in middle school, each individual strand possessed a glossy, glass-like luster that caught the soft morning light filtering through her bedroom drapery, refracting it into deep garnets, intense rubies, and liquid obsidian shadows.

To Clara, this magnificent mane was far more than a simple physical feature; it was her crown, her armor, and an undisputed symbol of her social supremacy. As she picked up her broad, wide-paddle wooden brush, she drew it slowly and rhythmically through the dense fabric of her hair. The natural bristle teeth glided with a soft, satisfying swish, creating a static hum that lightly charged the surrounding air. The sheer weight of her hair in her hand was substantial—a thick, heavy mass of pure virgin hair that felt as dense, smooth, and luxurious as hand-woven silk velvet. She would part it carefully, smoothing the front tresses around her delicate ears, ensuring that every single strand fell in parallel precision down her back.

“Look closely, St. Jude,” Clara whispered to her reflection, leaning in slightly to adjust a small, gleaming gold cross earring that brushed against the vivid crimson locks framing her cheek. “You are looking at your next Senior Class President.”

The annual Academy Festival Showcase was scheduled for later that week, and the pivotal student council presidency vote loomed on Friday morning. Popularity, Clara firmly believed, was never truly a contest when nobody else was even playing in her league. Whispers always followed her down the polished marble corridors—envious students marveling at the unbelievable length and mirror-like gloss of her hair, declaring her the inevitable winner of any room she deigned to walk into.

Yet, beneath her polished exterior, panic was beginning to quietly take root. The STEM club, led by an unassuming, sharp-eyed computer science nerd named Marcus Chen, had launched an automated tuition-aid proposal that was polling a full ten points ahead of her elaborate festival committee plan. If Clara lost the presidency, she would instantly lose her vital Founder’s Scholarship recommendation. To a girl whose entire identity and self-worth were built on being at the absolute apex of the school hierarchy, losing was not merely an inconvenience; it was an intolerable, catastrophic outcome.

The Sabotage in Server Room B

Driven by desperation and fueled by a lifetime of unchecked arrogance, Clara decided to quietly neutralize her competition long before Friday’s live demonstration could take place. At 11:45 PM, cloaked in the cool shadows of the St. Jude Academy basement wing, she crept stealthily toward Server Room B. Knowing that loose hair was a liability that could catch on rack equipment or compromise her stealth, she had spent twenty minutes earlier that evening carefully braiding her crimson hair into a single, extremely thick, tight braid that rested like a heavy cable down the center of her back.

The mechanical lock on Server Room B was surprisingly basic. With a sharp, echoing KA-CHUNK!, the heavy security door swung inward, revealing long rows of humming server towers bathed in the cold, artificial blue light of industrial cooling vents.

Clara slipped inside, the freezing ambient air biting immediately at the exposed skin of her neck and ankles. Moving with calculated, swift precision, she approached the main central terminal, pulled a sleek metallic flash drive from her blazer pocket, and slid it into the primary USB slot with a subtle BEEP! Her manicured fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard with a rhythmic, rapid clack-clack-clack, executing a custom wipe command script designed to erase four months of the STEM club’s precious campaign database and plant falsified exam files directly into Marcus’s root folder.

“Done,” she murmured to herself with a cold, triumphant smile, the end of her heavy crimson braid shifting smoothly over her shoulder as she leaned back. “And false exam answers planted in Marcus’s root folder.”

What Clara failed to realize, however, was that Server Room B was not guarded by simple low-tech campus security. It was equipped with an integrated, custom-built high-definition security array engineered by the STEM team themselves. Hidden discreetly within the upper bezel of the central server rack, a microscopic lens recorded every fraction of a second of her intrusion in crisp 4K at 60 frames per second, matching her facial features against the student registry database and logging every single keystroke in real time.

The next morning, instead of celebrating an easy victory during home assembly, Clara’s phone buzzed violently in her palm with an incoming text message from an unregistered number: Server Room B. Third period. Come alone, or Dean Vance and the Admissions Board get the full 10-minute video.

The Contract and the Barber Kit

When Clara forced open the heavy door of Server Room B during third period, the campus was quiet, as every other student was tucked away in morning lectures. She walked in expecting to buy her way out with her father’s money or sweet-talk Marcus into handing over the drive. Instead, she walked straight into a cold, unbreakable trap. Marcus, accompanied by his taciturn co-developer Maya, revealed the cold reality: her wipe script had hit a sandbox honeypot, their automated off-site cloud mirroring had preserved every single byte of data, and her complete keystroke logs were queued up for the Dean’s primary inbox.

“Under Section 14 of the Academy Honor Code, planting falsified exam files carries mandatory expulsion and a permanent black mark on university transcripts,” Marcus stated flatly, tapping the desk where a printed copy of the code lay. “One click, and this file goes to the Dean’s inbox.”

“Wait! Don’t send it!” Clara gasped, her face draining of all color as panic seized her chest. “If I get expelled, my life is over! Tell me what you want! Anything!“

Marcus pushed a formal, printed document across the table. “You’re going to sign our Non-Disclosure Restorative Accord. Ninety days of probation under our direct supervision. Starting with an immediate adjustment to that massive ego of yours.”

Maya stepped forward from the shadows near the secondary server rack, dragging a stainless-steel rolling cart. Resting atop it was a heavy, foam-lined case. With a sharp, alarming metallic gleam, Maya unlatched the lid to reveal a complete professional barber kit—heavy-duty electric clippers, a stainless-steel straight razor, professional hair-cutting shears, a bottle of disinfectant, and a can of pristine white shaving foam.

“Your hair is the symbol you use to look down on everyone in this school, Clara,” Marcus said calmly. “Sit in the chair, or Leo hits ‘Send’ in ten seconds.”

Clara backed away, her eyes wide with unadulterated horror. “Clippers?! Scissors?! Are you insane?! You can’t touch my hair! It took me six years to grow it to my hips!“

“Five… four… three…” Marcus counted down mercilessly, his finger resting firmly over the left-click button of his mouse.

“STOP! Don’t click it! I’ll sit! Just don’t send the video!” Clara shrieked, her voice breaking in a tearful sob. With trembling fingers, she signed Clause 3 of the Accord: Phase 1: 50% Cranial Shave. Ninety days mandatory display—no wigs, no hats, no alterations. Phase 2: 100% cranial shave upon Day 90 for permanent file deletion.

Phase 1: The Lopsided Execution

The leather barber chair gave a low creak as Clara sank into it, the vinyl seat feeling bitterly cold through her uniform tights. Her legs felt weak, completely hollowed out by fear. Maya stepped up behind her and unrolled a heavy black cutting cape, snapping it tightly around Clara’s neck.

“Maya,” Marcus instructed softly from the desk, “Tuck her arms inside so no loose hair gets on her blazer.”

“Please…” Clara whimpered, looking up at Maya’s impassive reflection in the monitor screen. “At least leave me an inch or a short bob on that side…“

“The contract says zero millimeters on the right hemisphere, Clara,” Marcus interjected without looking up. “Maya, part it.”

Maya reached onto the metal tray and picked up a fine-toothed tail comb. Positioned directly behind the chair, she drew the metallic pintail straight down the exact center line of Clara’s scalp, from the center of her hairline down the crown and all the way to the nape of her neck. The voluminous, silky crimson curtain was meticulously divided into two exact, distinct halves. Maya tied off the left side with a black ribbon to keep it separate, then gathered the massive right section into her hand.

“Your hair really is thick, Clara,” Maya remarked neutrally, lifting the heavy bundle to test its weight. “Look how heavy this right tail is.”

“Don’t… please…” Clara whispered, closing her eyes tightly.

Maya picked up a pair of heavy, six-inch professional cutting shears. The polished metal blades glinted sharply under the harsh LED strips of the server room. With a subtle CLINK, she positioned the thick blades directly above the ribbon binding the right tail, right near the base of the skull.

SNIP. SNIP.

The cutting sound was horrifyingly thick—a crisp, crunchy sound of hundreds of dense strands being sliced through simultaneously. The resistance gave way, and within ten seconds, half the overall bulk of Clara’s hair was completely gone. Three full years of dedicated growth were severed in a single handful. Maya slid the heavy, thirty-inch severed tail off Clara’s shoulder, laying it carefully across the lap of the cutting cape. Clara stared down at her own severed hair in sheer numb shock. Her head immediately felt unnaturally light on the right, while the heavy left side yanked her neck down at an awkward angle.

“That’s just the bulk gone,” Maya said coolly. “Now we take the right side down to the scalp.”

Maya reached for the heavy chrome electric clippers, flipping the power toggle with a sharp CLICK. The motor burst to life with a loud, aggressive BZZZZZZT.

“Wait—wait, don’t start at the front! Everyone will see it right away!” Clara panicked, her head flinching.

“That’s the entire point of Phase 1, Clara,” Marcus called out. “Keep your head still so she can follow the center part.”

Maya placed her left hand firmly on top of Clara’s crown to anchor her head, then pressed the vibrating steel guard of the clippers flat against Clara’s forehead, right along the exact center parting line. She pushed backward slowly and steadily. The high-speed teeth chewed effortlessly through the vibrant crimson roots, leaving a pale, bare strip of naked skin behind. BZZZZZZT. Strip after strip of hair dropped onto the cape like red rain. The deafening mechanical buzz hummed directly against Clara’s right ear canal, filling her head with a terrifying, inescapable vibration. Maya carefully guided the blades around the curve of Clara’s right ear, trimming down to the temple and sweeping clear down to the base of the neck.

“Look at the back view on the camera,” Maya noted, tilting Clara’s chin. “Split right down the spine.”

“There is still half a millimeter of red shadow,” Marcus observed, stepping closer to inspect the work. “The contract states smooth skin.”

“Wait… aren’t you done?!” Clara cried out, staring at the lopsided monster in the screen. “There’s nothing left on that side!“

Ignoring her protests, Maya shook a can of shaving foam and squirted a dense mound of white cream over the bare right half of Clara’s scalp. She smoothed the thick lather over the remaining stubble from hairline to nape. Taking up a straight razor, Maya held the bare skin taut with her thumb and made long, precise downward strokes. SCRAPE. SCRAPE. The blade wiped away every last trace of stubble, leaving the right hemisphere of Clara’s skull completely smooth, gleaming, and devoid of hair.

When the cape was unfastened, Clara looked into the mirror and wept silently. She was an absurd, terrifying contrast: her left side remained a breathtaking, thirty-inch waterfall of luxurious crimson hair, while her right side was entirely bald to the bone.

The Ninety-Day Probation

Stepping out of Server Room B into the cold fourth-period hallway felt like having a bucket of icy water dumped directly over the right side of her head. Without the insulating blanket of her dense hair, the ambient draft of the school’s HVAC system bit violently into her exposed skin.

Within three minutes, the news had swept through St. Jude Academy like wildfire. Students crowded the halls, pointing, gasping, and taking sneaky photos. From her left profile, Clara looked like the untouched, gorgeous student body president candidate everyone knew; from her right profile, she looked like she had suffered a bizarre industrial accident or lost an insane bet.

Her superficial political circle abandoned her instantly. Her so-called best friends refused to let her sit at their usual lunch table, citing that her ridiculous appearance was ruining their social standing. For the first time in her academic life, Clara ate her lunch alone at a small corner table in the back of the cafeteria. Under the strict terms of the Non-Disclosure Accord, she could not say a single word to defend herself or explain the real reason behind her shocking half-shaved head.

Yet, as the weeks ticked past, the grueling reality of her punishment began to shape a profound internal transformation. During the Academy Festival in Week 2, Clara had to work her mandatory shift in a traditional hostess café dress. To keep her appearance tidy, she began experimenting with her remaining hair, weaving the heavy left side into a neat, intricate side-braid that hung down her chest, accentuating the stark contrast of her bald right scalp.

Every single morning at 8:00 AM sharp, Clara reported back to Server Room B. Maya would prepare the chair, apply warm lather, and use the straight razor to shave away the persistent overnight stubble, maintaining a perfectly smooth, zero-millimeter finish on the right side. During these quiet morning sessions, the hostility between Clara and the STEM team gradually melted into a strange mutual respect. Clara started helping out around the lab during her mandatory service hours. She sorted complex Cat-6 data cables by length, reorganized inventory, and applied her sharp administrative talents to their initiatives.

By Day 60, Clara sat down with Marcus and Leo to review the senior class budget. Using her knowledge of school logistics, she showed them how cutting the extravagant VIP catering budget and canceling the high-end floral arch vendor she had previously booked would free up over twelve thousand dollars—enough to fund twelve brand-new textbook grants for struggling low-income freshmen.

As Day 75 approached, Clara realized something remarkable: she no longer cared about the stares in the hallway. In fact, it was the remaining half of her hair that began to annoy her. The heavy left ponytail was hot, weighed down her neck, caught constantly on locker doors, and took forty painful minutes to wash and blow-dry every night. She found herself asking a question that would have been unthinkable three months prior: Why did I spend years acting like my entire worth as a human being was tied up in this heavy bundle of red hair?

Phase 2: The Final Symmetry

On Day 90, the absolute final afternoon of the spring term, Clara walked down the basement stairs toward Server Room B. There were no threatening text messages sent to her phone this time; no reminders were necessary. Her step was light, her head held high, and her expression completely calm.

She knocked three times on the steel door and stepped inside. Marcus, Maya, and Leo were waiting.

“Right on the dot, Clara,” Marcus said, looking up from his terminal with a subtle smile. “And you actually look calm this time.”

“A deal is a deal,” Clara replied evenly, stepping straight toward the barber chair. “Clause 4 says the remaining half comes off today, and then you wipe the drive and destroy the backup.”

“We keep our word, Clara,” Maya said, unrolling a clean black cutting cape. “Untie your ribbon whenever you’re ready.”

Clara reached up with both hands, slid the black ribbon free from her left ponytail, and allowed the long, rich curtain of crimson hair to tumble down over her shoulder one last time. It hung loose, silky, and thick down to her hip.

“I won’t be needing ribbons for a very long time,” Clara said, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips as she sat down in the leather chair.

Maya draped the cape over Clara’s shoulders and picked up the heavy stainless-steel shears. Gathering the long left tail into a firm grip near the crown, Maya aligned the long blades against the base of the strands.

SNAP. SNIP.

With two firm, decisive cuts, the remaining thirty inches of rich crimson hair were completely severed from Clara’s head. The heavy bundle fell onto the cape with a soft thud. Clara gasped softly—not out of grief, but out of absolute, glorious relief. It felt as though a physical anchor weighing at least six ounces had been instantly lifted from her skull, leaving her head feeling practically weightless.

“Now let’s take down the left stubble,” Maya said, picking up the electric clippers.

She flipped the switch—CLICK-BZZZZZZT—and rested the cold metal guard against Clara’s left temple. Maya carefully guided the vibrating blades backward, folding Clara’s ear down to clean up the hair behind it. The high center parting line that had divided Clara’s life for ninety long days completely vanished under the very first pass of the clippers. All the bulk was gone. Crimson stubble rained down onto the black cloth, leaving both sides of her head covered in an even, shadow-like buzz.

Maya set the clippers down, warmed a fresh can of shaving foam, and lathered the left side of Clara’s head in rich, thick white cream. Taking up the straight razor, she shaved the remaining left stubble with clean, practiced downward sweeps, removing every trace of pigment until the skin matched the bare right side perfectly.

Finally, Maya wrapped a warm, damp towel around Clara’s entire head, wiping away all lingering lather and stray hair clippings.

“When the towel came off,” Clara looked into the mirror, her eyes widening. The awkward, lopsided girl of the past three months was completely gone. In her place was an image of striking, total symmetry. Her head was entirely bare, gleaming softly under the lights, exposing her elegant facial structure, high cheekbones, and bright eyes in a way her heavy hair had actually hidden for years.

“Perfectly smooth from ear to ear,” Maya announced proudly, handing Clara a small jar of soothing scalp moisturizer.

“I’m completely bald…” Clara whispered, gently running her palm over the smooth, warm skin of her crown. “And somehow… I actually look striking.”

She turned toward Marcus. “My part of the contract is finished, Marcus. Your turn.”

Marcus tapped his keyboard, executing a multi-pass cryptographic wipe sequence that purged the primary drive and deleted the off-site cloud mirrors. A bright green terminal window popped up: PERMANENTLY SHRED FILE: CLARA_SABOTAGE_4K.MP4 & CLOUD BACKUP? 100% COMPLETE. 0 FILES REMAINING. Marcus then reached into his desk drawer, pulled out all the physical flash drives containing raw footage, dropped them onto the tile floor, and stomped down hard with his heavy leather shoes. CRACK. CRUNCH. The microchips shattered into useless plastic fragments.

“Good riddance,” Clara said with a light chuckle, handing Marcus her voided contract.

“Do you want to take your hair home with you?” Maya asked, pointing to the massive pile of sixty total inches of virgin crimson hair resting on the cart. “Wigmakers would pay a small fortune for this.”

“Sell it to a wigmaker,” Clara replied without a second of hesitation. “Put every single cent into the freshman textbook grant fund. Consider it my donation to the student council.”

Marcus smiled warmly, extending his hand. “Thank you, Clara. And if you want an official spot on the student council audit team next term, the seat is yours.”

“I’ll see you Monday morning at eight, President Marcus,” Clara smiled playfully.

Stepping out of the main academy building on Day 90 felt nothing like stepping out of Server Room B on Day 1. As the double glass doors swung open, the bright afternoon sun bathed the courtyard in golden light. Clara stepped out into the quad with her head held high, without searching for anywhere to hide or pulling at phantom locks of hair.

Students turned to look as she walked confidently past the fountain.

“Whoa, Clara shaved off the other half too!” a junior whispered.

“Honestly?” another added. “Without the half-and-half look, she pulls off a shaved head better than anyone I’ve ever seen.”

Clara smiled to herself as she walked toward the gates. Her morning routine no longer swallowed forty-five precious minutes of her life; five quick minutes with a razor in the morning shower, a drop of moisturizer, and she was ready to conquer her day. No ribbons to tie, no heavy locks to manage, and no superficial image to protect.

She had lost sixty inches of crimson hair, a student council election, and every fake friend she ever had—and as she looked at her reflection in the glass doors of the library, Clara knew she wouldn’t trade the fearless, strong girl standing there for anything in the world.
