Comment Approval

Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place for this, & I almost never public comment/post, however, I was wondering how long does it usually take for a comment to be approved? I ask because I commented on a story on here a day ago. I was told my comment was waiting for approval before it would show up. However, since I posted, I have noticed other comments showing up on other stories, including the same story I was commenting on. I had also sent a message on here a few months back & never got any kind of reply or acknowledgement. Does anyone know what if anything I need to do? Thanks.

I don’t think there’s any ‘usual’ time. Comments are generally approved by the author, so it will depend on them. (I assume that admin *can* approve comments, but I don’t know if they do so, as a rule).

It *may* be that only first-time comments need to be approved, i.e. if you’ve had a comment approved before, you’re deemed ‘trustworthy’. So that *might* explain why other comments have appeared whilst yours hasn’t.

Sorry, that’s all a bit speculative. I’d maybe give it another day or two, and try commenting again. The author can always approve one and reject the other, to avoid duplication, if it comes to it.

On a similar note I see what seem to be 8 comments waiting for approval… But clicking on the message bubble tells me I’m trying to be naughty.

Yes, I see the same. I assume that it’s comments waiting on other people’s stories, that’s why neither of us can see them.

Yes, I saw that same message bubble when I was exploring the site, trying to gather info to figure this out. I didn’t realize the author had anything to do with the approval process. When I submitted a story on here the comment just showed up. I got an email about it, but no approval message or anything else related. I didn’t even know/realize comments needed approval until I got the message about mine. This site is cool & there’s a lot of great stories, but sometimes I wish there was a bit more information available & a way to contact others or know what to expect if one wants to participate. There are rules & guidelines about posting stories, but nothing else.

I have taken care of it and approved your comment. In general, it takes till one of the people who is authorized to approve it notices that there is an unapproved comment. There is no specific waiting period, just the fact that this site is run on a voluntary basis, so it happens when we have spare time.

F35h, yes HSNadmin and I can and do approve or do other things with comments.

The same thing is happening to me.
I registered and can post to the Forums but every comment I have made on a story remains in the moderation phase even as other comments get posted in the meantime.

I tried the Contact link and no response there.

Is this a hazing ritual for newbies?

Checking their profile links it appears HSN Admin was last active 3 weeks ago and Ginger Herten 1 week ago so perhaps it takes one to move newbies to an auto-approve list?

Strange…I just posted a comment that went straight through but my older ones are still in moderation.

Even on the same story I am now getting comments cleared immediately while older ones remain in moderation.

Hi Shrouded. I went and approved a bunch of comments, yours and a few others too. Though I have left some in pending limbo for reasons, like not being in a language I know (not even sure which of the languages I don’t know.) It’s late and I just don’t feel like running it through translate tonight.

I do typically stop by pretty frequently, but I don’t always login often I just look to see if there are any new stories from a personal favorite author, and do a quick check of the forum. The forum is usually a good way to get my or HSNadmin’s attention. If nothing pressing is in the forum, I often don’t login. It was seeing this in the forum that prompted me to login this evening.

I have been a bit extra busy these last few months though, so I have been a bit slower on the approving comments from new members. I’m not sure exactly what the criteria is, but at some point you can just start commenting and it is approved automatically.

If something is super urgent, you can always email one of us.

Most likely the comment that went through quicker was approved by the author of the story you commented on.

My first story comment that went through went through immediately on posting.
Then another on a story I had pending comments on went through while the older ones were still pending.
But now all are posted.

(I started a thread on “Story Alerts” that links to a story elsewhere,so I can see that this would need an approval which it has not yet received or been denied…but strangely enough I am now listed as having last modified that forum “1 year ago” when I was not a member).
