Login launches porn site

The last few times I’ve been on the platform and I’ve gone to log in, a new tab opens with the WordPress login and the HSN homepage turns into a porn page. I’ve noticed we have ads for a few adult sites now and that’s totally fine—I’m no prude—but it’s different when people mean to click on an ad versus when they’re redirected involuntarily.

It’s been opening porn sites for me in new tabs too, but a bit differently. It doesn’t replace the HSN site, just opens a new tab, while HSN stays open in the original tab. Also, not specifically when I log in, somewhat randomly as I navigate the site.

I’ve just been closing the new tabs, since it doesn’t interfere with what happens in the HSN tab for me.

What browser are you using? I’m using Safari in private mode.

I used Google Chrome, and I have the same thing happen — for instance, if I click on a story title, the story will open in a new tab but the initial tab will go to a porn ad. I’ve no problem with the porn ad, but it’s a minor inconvenience if, for example, I clicked on the story link from inside another story post — the newtab means I can no longer go directly back to the story I came from; I have to go back to the main page and retrace my steps.

As noted, a very minor inconvenience.

I’m using Chrome in incognito mode. And agreed that it’s generally a minor inconvenience for most folks but for some people here it might be an unwelcome intrusion.

Hi, sorry I’ve not seen this previously but this is called a “pop-under” advert and is part of the new adult adverts that appear on the site.

After some consultation with members it was decided that this kind of advertising was the community’s preference to replace the lost Google revenue.

Having thought about it, perhaps people who have donated to the site should be able to use the site ad-free, something to ponder.

Returning to this (a month later—I haven’t been around much lately), the biggest issue for me is that if I click on a story, it opens the story in a new tab and then the adult site appears as the pop-under on the original page, but then the “back” button doesn’t seem to work. I use incognito mode on this site and unfortunately this means I can’t easily get back to the page I had been on previously. Not a big deal if I’m just going back to the homepage, but annoying if I’m following a link from one story to another.
