It’s not a story, but I’m also not sure if it is a problem the way not-stories are usually problems. I may leave this for HSNadmin to decide unless it is bothering many readers.

What value is it actually adding to the site staying up? It’s not a story, it’s not a particularly novel idea, and it’s not really saying anything at all. It’s a selection of generic pictures of women created by an image generation algorithm. Anyone could get the same experience by going directly to the ai model themselves, or even just browsing a stock photo website.

Surely the point of a site like this is its niche appeal, the fact that you come here and you know that you’re going to get stories written by people that get it, that you wouldn’t find elsewhere, but lately it’s been feeling like I could replicate half of the site by just going onto chatgpt and saying “write me a story about a woman who shaves her head”. Maybe I’m out of touch with what the people want, but when I log on and see that at least five stories currently on the front page are untagged output from chatgpt, and there’s this non-story sitting right at the top, I look at the drafts I have sitting unfinished and think why bother – it’ll just be pushed off the front page into obscurity by some jpgs that took two minutes of work to generate.

I guess part of my indecision on the subject is that I’m not sure whether or not it adds value. I’ve still got an open mind on the subject. The AI generated stories are what has been pushing stories off the front page really quickly, so far, this has been a one off, so I’m not too worried yet. Leaving it up till HSNadmin gets to form his own decision seems harmless enough. Of course even when I do take stuff down immediately, I don’t do it permanently, I leave the final decision to HSN admin, because obviously this is his site, I just lend a hand.

It does feel more like something that belongs here in the forum than with the stories, but this forum is very under utilized, so I get why it was posted as a Story instead.

In someways it’s sort of a story, like a picture book, though the picture aren’t in the stories they are illustrating. Of course, there are reasons adults often prefer books without pictures, it lets us use our imaginations to fill in some of the blanks.

I’m not sure why this forum is so under utilized. You’d think it would be a natural place to congregate. I don’t know if there is one around I just haven’t found yet that’s lively like LTAH used to be before it was deliberately taken over.

We probably should have a broader discussion of this subject, what about none story stories, in the more general discussion section of the forum.

Well, most of the stories in here aren’t really stories as well, who’s there to judge? I don’t mind, I loved the post – I have generated pictures to a story as well (but I tried to incorperate them in a story, nobody seemed to appreciate that or the amount of work that goes into having the AI generate the picture you want).
