Request to tag AI written stories as AI written.

I’d like to suggest that the author “Legendary Head Shave Tales” tags their posts as “AI Written” so they can be removed by the very thoughtful filter you added. These stories are obviously AI written and use AI generated images. Thank you.

While the art work used is rather obviously AI, we are undecided if we think the stories themselves are AI written. There are things about the stories that don’t fit the style of AI written stories, though AI style has been evolving making them harder to confirm.

Whilst I am happy to accept the decision of the moderators that these stories can not be proved to be written by AI, the volume of stories posted by this individual on a daily basis could, perhaps, be a factor that should be taken into consideration?

The individual posted 15 stories today, 13 yesterday, and over fifty in total in the last few weeks, none of which were tagged with “AI Written”.

Irrespective of whether they are “AI Written” the impact on the home page of the website (after the “AI Written” filter is activated, and “Show more than 3 stories” filter is deactivated), is that only six stories are visible to people visiting the site, 3 of which are posted by the same individual, leaving just 3 other author’s stories visible.

The diversity of stories displayed to new (and, indeed, regular) visitors to the site – something I have always considered the most valued cornerstone of this website – has now been lost, and the opportunity for new authors to showcase their work has been eroded, given newly posted stories disappear from the home page within days.

As always, I value the work of the site owner and moderators, and respect their decisions, but I feel sad that the enjoyment of the site by every visitor has been diluted by the action of one individual.

Or writers posting their own original stories every few weeks get shouted down and bullied into giving up because contributors take a disliking to them because not all their stories were publicly available immediately. 🙂

They’ve posted—-by my count—-39 stories in the last five days. It’s obviously AI stuff. I don’t understand the reluctance to deal with this person. It makes the site impossible to navigate and encourages others to do the same thing. Please do something!

Thank you very much for your support @Liminina. The situation is certainly very perplexing and extremely worrying.

A few days ago I posted my latest hand-crafted story that took me three weeks to complete, and it has already disappeared from the home page. This is EXTREMELY disheartening and I am aware that other authors feel the same as I do.

In the past, authors would have confidently expected their stories to have remained on the home page for at least seven days, usually considerably longer, providing infrequent visitors to the site a great variety of stories to choose from, and offer an opportunity to new authors to gain longer exposure for their stories.

“Legendary Head Shave Tales” has posted over 60 stories in just over two weeks. My understanding is that the filters were introduced to prevent authors dominating the home page by giving the option to filter more than 3 stories from one author and any AI stories. This is a filtering of the last 25 stories posted and, if the filters are activated, this means that less than 25 stories will appear (i.e. excluding the filtered stories). Today there are just 12 stories showing on the home page, and on one occasion last week there was just 6 … and still dominated by just one author. Even when logged in to the site, only 13 stories appear on the home page, rather than the promised 50.

The current situation arises simply because one individual feels it necessary to dominate the HSN website. Their reason is a total mystery to me and I am sure everyone else. Unfortunately, even if they were obliged to tag their stories with “AI Written” I believe the effect of reduced story count on the home page, described above, will remain i.e. less than 25 stories will appear on the home page.

The filters were introduced promptly to resolve similar issues at the time and, I believe, were implemented without too much effort by the HSN owner whose time is at a premium. And, as always, I applaud his timely and decisive action.

There may be a technical solution to limit the number of stories that can be posted by one author in a given timescale but I suspect it would be far more difficult and time consuming for the owner to implement such a constraint. And, it could be argued, why should it be necessary to take such measures as a result of the actions of one selfish individual.

A simple solution would be for the individual in question to show restraint, fairness, consideration for others, and common sense, but unfortunately they have shown to lack all those qualities in the past, as well as a complete lack of empathy for the community as a whole.

SUGGESTION:

If a straightforward technical solution cannot be implemented (and, personally, I don’t believe the time and money should be invested by the site owner) please may I humbly suggest that ALL authors agree, when registering on the site, to post no more than three stories per week. Even in my most prolific period, I would have struggled to write (i.e. not use AI) three stories in a week!

If any authors are found to break this simple rule (either by moderators directly, or by diligent users reporting it via the forums) then they are WARNED to immediately delete all but 3 of their recent stories.

If they fail to act or break the rule again then they are BANNED from the site.

If deemed necessary, a friendly reminder to this effect could be placed on the home page near the filters.

I know of one excellent author who has publicly said he is leaving the site due to the actions of selfish individuals and I am aware that others are considering doing the same.

I feel extremely saddened by this situation, especially at a time when some of us our celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Hair Story Network and the owner’s generosity at providing the community with this wonderful facility.

Please, Moderators and Site Owner, like the majority of users of this site, I appreciate everything you do for the many, but I implore you to act against the selfishness of the few. Thank you.

This site is unusable with this author. Remove them or the site continues to fall into the pit. You all do an awesome job. Simple fix it seems.

Well, the stories are very short, I think it should be possible – though certainly not desirable – to create that many stories a day. I don’t read them though, so can’t really tell whether they are AI-written (AI tends to drag on and write more than needed)

I’m not a particularly active author here, but I’d still like to add my two cents.
This used to be a website I’d gladly visit every day, hoping for now content; now I hardly visit twice a week and even then only do so reluctantly.
AI “writing” has greatly impaired the quality (and quantity) of the stories, as have authors who’ve made the home page practically unusable.

Hi all,
Thank you for your patience.
As I now know these stories to be ai, I have gone through all of them and re-tagged them as ai written and removed the ai images tag when not relevant.
We are currently looking at adding stronger anti-spam measures to prevent issues like this in the future and I’m going to try and be more proactive so issues like this don’t have time to escalate to this extent.
Just as a reminder our policy is edited ai must be tagged, unedited ai isn’t allowed. ai in this context is forms of generative text, spellcheckers and image generators aren’t ai written. (note we now have an ai images tag)
I’m sorry to the authors who have been pushed off the homepage because of this. This will still effect the homepage for a while but a hope you can be patient while we look at fixes.

Thank you, moderators, for promptly investigating the spamming of the HSN web site, and I am pleased to confirm that by applying the “AI Written” filter, none of the offending stories from the individual in question now appear on the home page.

Additional thanks to “Anonymous User” for performing the necessary updates to resolve this situation.

Furthermore, I have appreciated the support for my original post on this thread, and I look forward to reading new stories by other similarly affected authors in the days to come.

As anticipated, the home page currently remains short on stories (just three!) but, as AU has pointed out, this will slowly improve as authors add new stories that will not be lost to a wider audience. Although I had been extremely disheartened by the spamming of the site, I have decided I will publish a new story shortly.

Looking ahead, if a straightforward solution to prevent spamming is forthcoming to prevent a similar situation arising in the future, then I am sure that users of this site would be pleased to see it implemented. In the meantime, I suggest it up to everyone to remain diligent and report anything that contravenes the “House Rules” in this forum.
