The “What If” category

I don’t think others are using it the same way I do. I use it for my sci-fy and fantasy stories.

I’m curious how others think it should be used.

That’s probably a better way of using it then what I do. I see it as a “what if x happened” to represent fantasies but that applies to nearly everything. Same with time for a change applies to most stories.

I’m a mixed concerning this category. If you define it too open, it is too universal.

To me it means: There is a starting point for the whole story that is purely fictional and not happening in the real world, but the rest of the world is quite close to normal. Som

• The story is based on something that has not happened, but the protagonist either thinks about it or lives in a fictional world where this event actually happened. For example: The protagonist thinks about what would happen if the local barber would use the wrong guard. Or protagonist lives in a world where the latest the latest fashion for women is shaved heads and she sees all here friends going bald.
• The story is a kind of daydream that leads to an action that is not part of the story. For example: The protagonist is witnessing another woman getting a pixie cut. Then she thinks about what would happen if she would not go home with her long ponytail, but with a shorter cut. And then she is sitting in the chair, but what actually happens then is up to the reader.
