Violence and hatred

Guys.

I worry for this little community, and I guess if nobody else is willing to stand up and say something, well, perhaps I should.

Lately, there’s a wave of really degrading stories here.
There’s a lot of humiliation, hatred, defeminisation and violence, some of it really awful.

And cool, if that floats your boat, more power to you. I guess there should be space for at least Some of that here.

But lately it seems to be getting ever more violent and the women being humiliated and destroyed in ever more spectacular fashion.
And there’s precious little new here that Isn’t that.

It turns this readers stomach, tbh.

I worry that this tendency might chase away anyone wanting some gentler stuff, or, worse, people writing gentler stuff.

I understand your concern. Especially as a woman myself. I personally use my writing as a way to explore fantasies that I would/could not do in real life. That being said, I’d recommend not reading any story tagged “forced” or “punishment”. It will save you some grief.

There is a really complicated subject that comes up over and over. The line between ok and not ok is fuzzy. When I’m called to make it, I try not to let my personal taste get in the way of the decision. I do always ultimately leave final decisions to HSNadmin.

When I’m considering whether or not a story crosses the line, one of the biggest factors I consider isn’t even the specific level of violence, but whether the story reads like a fantasy or whether it reads like something someone might actually do.

Obviously when you think a story crosses the line, go ahead and report it. If you don’t think it crosses the line, but also don’t feel the tags adequately warned readers ahead of time of exactly how violent a story was going to be, then go ahead and report that. We can address it and add more tags.

It really isn’t as simple as just avoiding all storys catagorized under “forced” or “punishment” since the definitions of those is pretty open to interpretation. For example, in a BDSM scene where there is a safeword, a scenario where there is an existing consent to being a sub, does it count as “forced” and “punishment” or as “consensual?” I know that I rarely spell out the whole safeword thing in my stories (really only in that one story with the safeword failure.) “Forced” can be particularly vague since one might be forced by circumstances.

Even defining violence can be tricky. Using 2 of my own stories as examples (I swear it’s just more convinient fro me, not because I think my own stories are always the best examples,) in “Tracking Devices” the main character sits down for her hair to be cut off with out anyone touching her, but in “Decontamination” the romantic interest is pushed down into the seated position then held there; if asked which was the more violent situation though, I would say “Tracking Devices” was. In “Tracking Devices,” the people cutting off the main characters hair are obviously not nice people, and the main character has reason to believe they might just kill her if she doesn’t comply. In “Decontamination” the nurse who pushes the romantic interest character down and holds her is caring and trying to be as gentle as possible even though she feels it is necessary to use force.

Anyway, long story short, I get why MOL doesn’t want to just skip every single story that falls in the forced or punishment catagories.

I understand what you’re saying, Makeoverlover. It’s odd because I’m in the same boat as you most of the time, but there are some moments where I enjoy a forced/tricked/unwanted story. And I think some of mine have crept toward that lately, so I apologize if you went into them with high hopes, only to be disappointed.

I can only speak for myself, but there will be more consensual stories soon, I promise.

It’s not the forced or tricked part I don’t like – a little domination play is great, as long as it’s that – Play
It’s stuff like forcing the woman to sex change? Be ugly and reviled forever?
If there could be a category for That, I would love it.

I’m not trying to take anything away from people. I’m trying to advocate for variety, for a wider audience.

Personally, I like the rags to riches stories. Timid to strong. Boring to beautiful.

As some of you have noticed, I’ve started dabbling a little in stories myself – be the change you want to see in the world, yadda.
As some others have also noticed, I’m not very good.

Way back in the mists of time, one of the old story sites had a category called ‘de-feminisation’ or ‘defem’ for short. These tended to feature the more extreme kind of things you’re talking about. Perhaps that could be added as a category here, or authors could be encouraged to use that as a tag on these kind of stories.

Am I the only one who feels this has become so much worse?

Most of the stories on the front page are depicting assault and battery and an immense amount of hatred towards women.

Is this the direction this page wants to take?

I know this post is aimed at me, and I completely understand your concerns. Especially given the crisis we are seeing with violence against women and girls in society, and misogyny in general.
But it’s worth pointing out that stories like the ones you are worried about have likely been around for about as long as pen paper, and I can say for certain they’ve been around for the last 20 years as I have been writing fetish stories, under various names since 2005 or so. Yes, I am a veteran sick bastard rather than one of the trendy new cohort of sick bastards.

This may shock you but a lot of my “fans” are women. Some of my stories have been written at the request of female kink friends who have asked for themselves to be cast in the stories. I am currently working on a longer work, for a very, very dear friend of mine where she is the main character and the story ends with her having her teeth pulled out and another character being r4aped with a tree branch. Yes, I will wince when I write those scenes and don’t really want to write them, but I want to make my friend happy, and that’s what she asked for. And don’t worry, if it’s posted here it will be toned down significantly.

I love my friend and care about her deeply and want to make her something that will let her enjoy her FANTASY.

There’s books about zombie apocalypses and nuclear attacks, it doesn’t mean the author or those reading them want it to happen.

Also, don’t read what you won’t enjoy. If it upsets you that much, don’t read it.

To those who like “nice” stories, be the change you want to see, and write those gentler stories and encourage those already doing it in the comments. Nobody gets told what to write here. You can post them. It is allowed.

Personally, I think a de-fem tag is a great idea, as those who wish to read that content, and those who wish to be offended by it, can find it more easily.

It’s not aimed at you in particular; in fact you’re not in any way the worst offender of this.

It’s more of a movement. 90%+ of the new stuff on this page is just plain assault at the very least.
