I think the tag that denotes a story as AI-written would be sufficient if uploaders were honest about it. The problem lies with people not willing to admit that a story is AI-generated. I don’t know about anyone else, but I can tell immediately when I’m reading something artificial. (That is what it is, after all) There are tools that can detect an AI-written text, such as Originality.ai AI Checker in WordPress. It gives an AI to Original scoring that helps categorize a story. As far as the images, they need to go. This isn’t a graphic novel page, it’s a writer’s outlet for hair-related work. If you can’t create an image in your reader’s mind, then maybe you should step back, or take some writing lessons. I still attend writer’s workshops to learn and to teach. What do you think?

Okay. Seems to be up and going again. It must be something just comes and goes.

There seems to be an issue with posting new content. I wonder if it’s just me, as I see other stories that have been posted today. When I went to post my latest, I got a critical error message, saying that if the problem persists to contact the moderators. I tried logging out and back in but nothing helped. Any attempt to enter stories in my dashboard, be it to look or post, results in the error. I also tried from different operating systems, Windows or Mac still locked out.

I hadn’t realized this is a recurring issue. Please ignore my post under general topic.

Just noticed a comment on story “A Bob is what made it all happen, Part 1” as an inquiry from user “Tusk” requesting a story be sent o their private email, posting the email in comments. I don’t think it breaks any rules per se, but I didn’t approve the comment.

Okay. I am only reporting what I’m seeing as the comment was still unapproved, and ‘out there’. Also when I checked the Activity Log Forum, the story was not named, only that it involved a five year old. I don’t appreciate being scolded for doing what I am volunteering to do here. In future I’ll check the activity log forum before posting anything about comments or stories, if that is the new procedure for keeping track of what we’re doing. I don’t know why you’re being hostile toward me, Wozziewoo, but every time we have an exchange you treat me with disrespect and condescension. Please, let’s be kind to one another. We’re all here to help Andy, so let’s remember that.

    Hello fellow moderators,
Another story was brought to my attention, that seems like borderline child abuse. The comment seemed fair so I didn’t moderate it, but I didn’t approve it either, leaving it pending. Here is the link to the story. It skirts the fine line that we’ve been discussing, between childhood experiences and actual abuse or manipulation.
Here’s the link. https://www.hairstorynetwork.com/stories/a-picture-he-shouldnt-have-shown/. I’d like to know what everyone thinks.

I think in the case of a story being moved to private, it would probably be prudent to email the writer to contact us, without being overly descriptive of the issue at hand. This way there wouldn’t be a descriptors in the initial email, and it is kept cordial and ‘vanilla’ as it were. I do think that there should be some rules posted about child pornography and what that constitutes on this site, as well as what would be considered child abuse. The problem might be that not enough contributors read the forums, to make this well known. Perhaps we could put an insert when a story is posted to refer to the rules regarding this and other topics that might be out of bounds.

“Punish Your Child, Give them the Chair, Part One.” I need some other mods to read this story and decide if it crosses a line. It’s does seem like borderline child abuse, not in the authors remembering of his experience, but rather in promoting it later on. If I’m wrong, I’ll back down, but read it and let us know your thoughts.

    Hi,
I think this forum should be visible to moderators only, if only to avoid any issues going forward. Then if anything does need to be made open to the general membership or visitors, it can be posted or forwarded to the Site News and Discussions forum. Just my two cents.

Yep, I can read this forum and have subscribed. This will be better and more efficient than communicating through email.

To be honest, it was very easy. All I needed to do was provide a link to the story in question on this site. I presume the auditors at Youtube were astute enough to realize that the narration was word for word with what was written in my work. The fact that the posting date on all of the work predated the videos by at least two years, probably made their decision a simple one. All in all, Six stories were plagiarized and all six were removed immediately. I’m not sure whether a copyright strike was issued, but to be fair, someone else making money from my efforts just rubbed me the wrong way. It’s one thing to see my stories on other free web sites, but YouTube is a money making enterprise for the creators and that’s not okay. If they’re not creative enough to write their own material, then they shouldn’t be posting. I doubt this individual will be harvesting from here any time soon, if ever.

I’m sure I speak for all the authors who post here at HSN in saying, thank you for all you do! Running a story board like this one must be a lot. I could see how it might start to take too much time away from what really matters; your life and family. I’ve been a bit silent of late, dealing with real life issues and some moderately scary health concerns. I do intend to start contributing again soon. Again, thank you for your continued devotion to this site.

Having opened this proverbial can of worms, I felt it my responsibility to chime in, now that more voices have been heard. I agree with most opinions here, that posting a story, and detracting from that posting by prefacing it with an advertisement to go elsewhere to read the other half, or a prequal to what was posted, is a bit in your face. It may not break any rules, but it flies in the face of the spirit of this site. Posting a link at the end of a story, saying, ‘if you want to read more, go here’, seems just fine to me. I’m not against people making a little scratch with their writing, it is , after all, my profession.
I am sad that anyone needed to be banned, as that was never my intention. Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing, and this site provides a unique opportunity to explore this subject without any real impingement or censorship. If you are smart about how you place your links, so that it doesn’t detract from what you made available here, I can’t imagine that would be an issue.
I am not a moderator here, so I don’t make the rules. Abide by whatever is in them, and carry on posting. I write because I am compelled to do so, just as an artist paints, or a musician plays. If this is how you feel, then there is room to keep your professional and avocational works separate. Above all, have fun with what you do. It will show in your creations.
    All the best,
    Claire

Hi Ginger. I’m afraid I never received the email. I would never not respond, even if I did not have answer. Please, do try again.
