KeymasterHi all, due to a couple of things, mainly time constraints I’m not going to go live with the new site today. I’ll keep you posted with progress and a new launch date.
KeymasterHi all, I understand the concern about a transition but I think we’ll go live with the new site on Wednesday morning this week.
In terms of design and features I’m confident that it’s a positive evolution and people will see that and get behind the changes. You can’t please everyone but at the end of the day it’s my belief that this will turn out to be a bit step forward.
KeymasterHi GH, there’s now a favourites system on the staging site. It’s only available once you log in (you can use your login from the live site). Let me know if it’s close to what you were thinking.
With adding new features it’s opening up the question of funding again. Whether we have paid add ons and features.
Last year I think donations totalled about $30 which is nowhere near enough to keep the site running. The adverts bring in around $1 a day so hardly worth it either.
KeymasterThanks for your considered feedback GH. You’re right it stops in 2024 as that was when I took the database backup to start working on the new verion. It’s been a long time coming!
I’ll look through your points and see what can be done, all sound as if they’d enhance the website.
KeymasterThanks for the feedback AU. I think your ideas are all practical and very doable. I’ll try to get them implemented in the next week.
In terms of the highlighted story, I agree that just having the newest one shown isn’t very useful. I was thinking that if you’re logged in you could see the last story you read. Perhaps you’re right though, we could have a scrolling section of the 3 highest rated of the month. I was also thinking of having “favourite authors” so this is an option for this section.

@Claire, I’m not sure what happend last week, it’s possible that the site has reached some sort of reseource limits. Of course you would never be banned lol
KeymasterHi all, sorry about this, it’s all sorted now. Basically the server was running out of resources.
I’ve recently had to downgrade the server as a cost saving measure having only received around $5 in donations in the past 6 months. The ads hardly bring anything in so I’m gooing to have to think about some sort of fund raising ideas.
Anyway, all sorted for now and new optimisation has been put in place so all in all things should be running quite quickly from now on.
