Ryan was enjoying the warm, sunlit afternoon by the pool, lounging and letting the heat wash over him. The rhythmic sound of water splashing was almost hypnotic, but everything around him came to a sudden halt when Aunt Lisa’s voice cut through the calm.

“Ryan,” she called out, her voice clear and authoritative. “Come here.”

Ryan immediately sat up, feeling that familiar tension. His aunt’s presence always had that effect on him. She was composed and confident—qualities that always made him feel like he was a little off balance around her.

“Yes, Aunt Lisa?” he asked, standing up and walking toward her.

She stood by the pool, her arms crossed, her sharp eyes scanning him as if making a mental note of every little detail. When she spoke again, her tone was calm but firm.

“I’ve been thinking, Ryan. Your hair is too messy. I’m going to clean it up for you. It’s time for a change.”

Ryan’s stomach fluttered. “What do you mean? Aunt Lisa, I—”

“Sit,” she commanded, cutting him off mid-sentence. Her voice was unwavering, and Ryan knew better than to argue. He sat down on one of the lounge chairs near the pool, trying to steady his nerves.

Aunt Lisa reached into her bag and pulled out a set of clippers. She attached a guard labeled “No. 5,” her fingers moving with practiced ease. Ryan’s heart raced a little faster at the sight of the clippers, but Aunt Lisa simply gave him a calm, reassuring smile.

“We’ll start with this guard, Ryan,” she said. “Just to even it out. You’ll still have some length, but it’ll be much cleaner.”

Ryan nodded, unsure of what to expect but trying to trust her. She moved behind him and began running the clippers through his hair, the buzzing sound filling the air. She worked methodically, cutting through the length of his hair, and Ryan felt the weight of it beginning to fall away. A few snips here, a few there—until finally, he saw the first big chunk of hair tumble to the ground.

He glanced down at the pile of hair that had already fallen. A large clump, about four inches in length, now lay at his feet. Ryan’s breath caught in his throat. That was more than he’d expected. His hair had always been his defining feature, and seeing it so dramatically reduced sent a wave of panic through him.

“Aunt Lisa!” he gasped, feeling the sudden coolness on his scalp. “That’s too much! What are you doing?”

She didn’t answer immediately, simply working with the clippers, the buzzing sound still sharp and steady as she finished the first pass. When she finally stepped back and surveyed the result, she gave a satisfied nod. “Perfect. Now we’re getting somewhere.”

Ryan touched his head, his fingers brushing over the much shorter hair. “Wait—Aunt Lisa, what’s next? That’s already a lot of hair gone.”

Aunt Lisa just smiled and swapped out the guard for a smaller one, this time a No. 3. “Now we’ll go a little shorter. Don’t worry, it’s going to look great when I’m done.”

Ryan’s stomach flipped. He was already feeling vulnerable, his hair much shorter than he ever thought he’d allow, but Aunt Lisa didn’t seem phased. She ran the clippers over his scalp again, but this time, there was only a slight scraping sound as the clippers trimmed down just millimeters of what was left.

But as she worked, Ryan realized the length was slowly, methodically disappearing. The longer guard had taken off the bulk of the length, and now, with the shorter guard, only the faintest stubble was left. He could feel it against his skin—his scalp, once covered, was now exposed, though not completely. But Aunt Lisa wasn’t stopping. She ran the clippers over his scalp again and again, ensuring everything was even.

Ryan’s anxiety grew, but Aunt Lisa just continued to work, humming softly to herself. “Much better, but we’ll make sure it’s even everywhere,” she said. “You’ll look sharp.”

Ryan felt the cool air against the top of his head where the longer hair used to be. As the clippers moved over him, the last remnants of length were gone, reduced to almost nothing. The sharp, buzzed stubble now covered his entire scalp.

He wanted to protest, to stop her from taking any more of his hair, but something in his gut told him it was too late. Aunt Lisa wasn’t finished yet. She gave him one more reassuring look and swapped out the guard again, this time for a No. 1.

“Just a little more,” she said with a smile, before running the clippers through his scalp one last time. The sound was quieter now, almost subtle, as it took off the last few millimeters, leaving Ryan with a very fine stubble on his head.

Ryan couldn’t believe how little was left of his hair now. There was no longer any real length—only a soft, smooth stubble covered his scalp. It was like all his old self had been shaved away. He looked down at the ground at the pile of hair that had fallen around him, realizing that what was once a thick mass of hair was now gone entirely.

Aunt Lisa stepped back and admired her work, a satisfied smile curling on her lips. “There we go, Ryan,” she said, her voice smooth. “Now you’re even. Clean. Neat.”

Ryan ran a trembling hand over his newly exposed scalp. The soft stubble was different—strange even—but it wasn’t quite as jarring as the complete baldness he had feared.

“Wait, Aunt Lisa… what now?” he asked, looking up at her. He felt uncertain, still reeling from the transformation.

“Every Sunday,” Aunt Lisa said with a smile, “you’ll sit right here, and I’ll clean you up. This is your new look. You’ll get used to it.”

Ryan didn’t know how to respond. Part of him still felt like he should protest, but the strange calmness of Aunt Lisa’s presence—the way she had controlled the situation—made him feel like maybe this was exactly what he needed.

He glanced at his reflection in the pool, noticing how the soft stubble on his scalp shocked him, more scared, even if he hadn’t been ready for such a change.

“I’ll see you next Sunday, Ryan,” Aunt Lisa said, her voice soothing yet commanding. “And each time, it will look better. Trust me.”

As she walked back inside, leaving him by the pool, Ryan knew that this wouldn’t be the last time Aunt Lisa reshaped him. Every Sunday, this would become part of his routine—a new kind of transformation he wasn’t sure he fully understood yet, but somehow felt drawn to.
