It was a typical Saturday morning, and the steam from the shower still lingered in the bathroom as Priya stood in front of the mirror, her towel wrapped around her. Rahul was in the midst of his morning routine, shaving by the sink, when Priya’s gaze shifted to the trimmer Rahul had left on the counter. Her fingers itched with curiosity.

“What’s this thing?” she teased, twirling the trimmer between her fingers, inspecting it like it was a gadget she’d never seen before.

Rahul glanced over at her, raising an eyebrow. “It’s a trimmer, Priya. Please don’t touch it.”

“Oh, relax,” Priya smirked, flicking the trimmer on. The sharp buzz filled the room, and Priya couldn’t help but giggle. “I’m just having a little fun.”

Rahul sighed, clearly skeptical. “You don’t know how to use that.”

“I know, I know,” Priya said with a grin, “but it looks so fun!” She added playfully, “Nee eppovumey romba bore da!” (You’re always so boring!)

She grabbed a random section of her hair, just a few inches from the end, and held it between her fingers. Slowly, she brought the trimmer to the ends of her hair, making a teasing buzz.

*Zzzzt—snip.*

Priya pulled her hand back, showing Rahul the tiny section she had just buzzed off. “Oopsie,” she giggled, a wicked grin spreading across her face.

Rahul’s eyes widened. “Hey loosu. enna panni vechuruka? (Hey girl, what have you done?)”

“summa oru kutty piece dan da. (It’s just a tiny piece!)” Priya laughed, tossing the snipped hair aside. “No big deal.”

But she wasn’t finished. Priya couldn’t resist teasing him further. She grabbed another small section from a different part of her hair and held it between her fingers. With a mischievous smile, she buzzed through the ends again.

*Zzzzt—snip.*

“Oopsie,” Priya giggled again, showing off the snipped hair.

“Priya, podhum!” (Priya, enough!) Rahul warned, his voice now tinged with frustration. “Stop playing with that thing.”

Priya only smirked, holding a small tuft of snipped hair and leaning closer to tickle Rahul’s cheek with it. “Acho, baby romba serious ah irukiya da, konjam siri?” (Oh no, are you going to be all serious now? Smile a little) she teased, her laughter ringing out.

“Priya!” Rahul finally snapped, grabbing the trimmer from her hands and placing it firmly on the counter. “Enough. You’re going to mess it up.”

Priya, of course, wasn’t done annoying him. She waited for him to turn back to the sink, then quietly snatched the trimmer again. “Just one more tiny snip,” she whispered, grinning.

Before she could play any further, a loud *thud* echoed from the other room, startling both of them. Priya’s hand jerked, and the trimmer buzzed loudly as it slipped across her hair.

*ZZZTTTTT*

Priya froze, staring in the mirror at the damage she’d just caused. A jagged patch of hair, now visibly buzzed short, sat above her temple, an uneven mess among the longer strands.

Rahul turned to her, his face a mix of horror and disbelief. “Priya… enna panni vechuruka di.” (Priya… what have you done?)

“Ayyo, teriyama nadandhuruchu da” (I didn’t mean to!)” Priya said quickly, her voice rising in panic. “It was an accident! I got startled!”

Rahul examined her hair more closely, running his fingers through the longer strands. “This is… this is a total mess. Ippadiye velila pona na, ellarum sirippaanga.” (If you go out like this, everyone will laugh.)

Priya groaned, her face red with embarrassment. “What do we do now?”

Rahul took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. “We’re going to the salon. They’ll fix it. Come on.”

The consultation:

At the salon, Priya sat nervously in the chair, her hands tightly gripping the armrests. Rahul stood beside her, trying to comfort her with a reassuring smile. The stylist, a calm woman with a sleek bob, approached them, offering a gentle smile.

“Well, it looks like we’ve got a bit of a situation here,” the stylist said as she carefully parted Priya’s hair, exposing the buzzed patch. “But don’t worry, we can fix it.”

Priya’s stomach fluttered with anxiety. “What can I do to fix it?”

The stylist examined the patch closely, nodding to herself. “You have a couple of options. The first would be to buzz just the side where the hair’s already been cut. We’ll make that side even with the buzzed patch, creating a clean, trendy look. The longer side will remain untouched, so you won’t lose any length there. It’s bold, but not too drastic.”

Priya ran her fingers nervously through the longer side of her hair. “But… won’t it look too uneven? I don’t want it to look off.”

The stylist smiled reassuringly. “Not at all. The buzzed side will blend seamlessly with the rest of your hair. It’s a modern, asymmetrical look—one side shorter, the other left longer. It’s fresh, and it’ll still feel balanced.”

Priya glanced at Rahul, who gave her a small, encouraging nod. “And what’s the other option?”

“Well,” the stylist continued, “the other option would be more radical. We could buzz the side and blend it into the longer hair, cutting the most hair off the longer side as well. This would give you a more uniform, sleek finish, but you’d lose the entire length as it would be shorter overall. It would be a dramatic change, but it’s clean and polished.”

Priya shuddered at the thought of losing so much length. “I don’t know if I want to go that short…”

The stylist nodded understandingly. “That’s totally fine. The first option, where we only buzz the messed-up side, is the least drastic. You’ll still have plenty of length on the other side, and the overall look will be trendy and fresh.”

Priya took a deep breath. “Okay, I’ll go with the buzzed side option. Let’s do it.”

The Haircut:

The stylist began by running her fingers gently through Priya’s dampened hair, her experienced eyes focusing on the uneven patch. She used a fine-tooth comb to section off the longer side of Priya’s hair, securing it neatly with a clip to keep it out of the way. Then her attention turned to the other side, where most of the hair was equally pristine—sleek and cascading naturally down Priya’s shoulder. However, just above her temple, the smoothness was interrupted by a glaring patch of uneven, buzzed strands. The jagged edges stood out starkly against the rest of the flawless mane, making the patch look almost like a misplaced blemish on an otherwise polished canvas.

“This is gorgeous too—except for this one spot,” the stylist said gently, running her fingers over the area, holding the clippers in her hand. “I’ll start just below your sideburn and work my way up, blending everything to match the buzzed patch. The longer strands here will need to go, but we’ll leave the other side untouched.”

Priya nodded nervously, her eyes fixed on the mirror. Her lips pressed into a tight line as she took in the mess she’d created. “Okay,” she whispered.

The buzzing sound of the clippers filled the room, sharp and steady. The stylist tilted Priya’s head slightly to expose the curve of her sideburn. The clippers hummed softly as they made their first pass just below her temple.

Zzzzt.

A thick chunk of hair fell away, sliding down Priya’s shoulder before landing heavily on the cape. Priya’s eyes widened in shock as she watched the hair tumble. “Oh my God,” she gasped, her voice barely audible. “That’s… that’s so much hair!”

The stylist smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, it’s all part of the process. Trust me—it’s going to look amazing.”

But Priya couldn’t take her eyes off the mirror as the clippers worked upward, buzzing through the jagged lengths. More hair fell, this time more longer pieces, cascading over her shoulders and piling onto the floor. The contrast was stark: the sleek, buzzed area grew more defined, while the remaining longer strands looked more out of place with every pass.

Rahul, standing to the side, winced as he saw the chunks of hair piling up. “Wow,” he muttered. “That’s a lot more than I thought.”

Priya’s jaw dropped as another uneven length was buzzed clean off. The stylist’s steady hand guided the clippers upward, removing the last of the jagged strands near her temple. Priya watched helplessly as more and more of her hair joined the growing pile on the floor. “I can’t believe how much is coming off,” she said, her voice tinged with both disbelief and nervous laughter.

The stylist adjusted her angle, gently turning Priya’s head to get a better view. She combed through the shorter side to ensure no stray pieces remained, then made another pass with the clippers, blending the buzzed section seamlessly into the patch. Tiny bits of hair rained down, dusting the cape and falling in a soft shower around Priya’s feet.

“You had a lot of uneven lengths here,” the stylist explained, brushing some loose strands from Priya’s shoulder. “Now it’s all coming together. See how smooth this side is looking?”

Priya glanced at the mirror, her hand instinctively reaching up to touch the buzzed area. The velvety texture felt strange but oddly satisfying. “It’s so short,” she murmured, her wide eyes glued to the mirror.

The stylist chuckled. “Short, but chic. Now let’s blend it into the longer side.”

She unclipped the longer section of Priya’s hair, letting it fall freely. With a few sprays of water, she dampened the hair again, combing it out meticulously. Using scissors, she trimmed and layered the longer side just enough to create a smooth transition into the buzzed area, but she left the length intact.

The rhythmic snipping of the scissors was almost soothing, contrasting with the earlier buzz of the clippers. Priya watched as small, precise cuts were made, and the stylist’s fingers worked quickly to shape the hair. Tiny snippets fell away, adding to the dramatic pile on the floor.

Finally, the stylist stepped back, fluffing Priya’s hair with her fingers to add some texture. “There we go,” she said, smiling at Priya’s reflection. “The buzzed side is sleek and clean, and the longer side has all its length, but now it flows perfectly into the cut.”

Priya ran her fingers over the buzzed side again, her expression softening into a smile. “It’s so different… but I actually love it,” she said, a hint of relief in her voice.

Rahul grinned, leaning closer. “It’s definitely bold. You look amazing.”

Priya laughed, brushing a few stray hairs from the cape. “Bold, huh? Well, at least it’s better than that mess I started with.”

The stylist swept up the piles of hair from the floor, chuckling. “Let’s just say this was a transformation worth remembering.”

Priya stood, glancing one last time at the floor, where the remains of her hair lay in scattered clumps. She turned to Rahul, her smile now confident. “Okay, I think I’m ready to show this off.”
