The Voice of Isabelle
connecting
I have always struggled to connect with people. At thirty-five, I have accepted this about myself, though it took me the better part of two decades to stop seeing it as a personal failing and start seeing it as simply the way I am. My mother used to say that I watched life happen around me rather than participating in it. And she was not entirely wrong. I was always on the periphery, observing, taking in details that others seemed to miss, never quite managing to bridge the gap between myself and others.
My romantic history reads like a catalogue of near-misses and almost-relationships. In my early twenties, there was Marc, who said I was “too intense”. Then there was Laura, who accused me of keeping her at arm’s length even when I thought I was letting her in. Donna was the most recent. Over a two-year period, I genuinely believed our relationship would be different, as she understood my need for space. But just when I thought we were lifting our relationship to the next level, she went back to her ex-husband, leaving me to contemplate what I had done wrong or, more accurately, what I had failed to do right.
The loneliness was physical sometimes, a hollow ache in my chest that no amount of self-distraction could quite fill. I threw myself into my work instead. Hairdressing was never my dream, but it became my salvation. The salon I had bought years earlier gave me purpose. Unimaginatively renamed Cut and Style by Isabelle, it was located on a parade of small shops at the edge of town.
The salon provided me with a reason to get up in the mornings, even if the work itself had become tedious. From straightforward trims for busy mothers to shampoo and sets for ladies who had been coming to me for years, the work had become routine. The conversations with customers never went beyond discussing the weather and their families. And despite the hairdressing stereotype, I never asked them about their holidays. As I had not been away for years, I would have been extremely jealous. I told myself I was content with this modest existence, and, whenever I did not dwell on it too much, I even believed it.
But underneath the resigned acceptance, something still stirred deep within me. A want, a need, a hunger for something more. I did not know what it was exactly, only that it existed. It was a persistent unqualified ache that no amount of acceptance had ever fully silenced.
dating
Enrolling on the dating app was supposed to be an answer to the loneliness. I was not fussy about gender any longer; I had learned that connection had less to do with plumbing than most people assumed. What I most desired was straightforward company, a person to accompany me for a walk by the river, or someone to join me for a meal. I often wondered if it might be easier to adopt a dog. But all I really wanted was to discover the kind of easy intimacy that other people seemed to navigate so effortlessly.
However, what I found instead was something entirely unexpected.
It started innocently enough. In my biography on the dating app, I mentioned being a hairdresser, using a bland title for a bland occupation. It was a detail I always included in my online presence but a revelation that was never going to set the world alight.
The responses were peculiar from the instant I hit “Save”. Women would message me privately, confessing things they seemed too embarrassed to say publicly. Fantasies about drastic haircuts. Dreams of someone shearing them completely bald. Fetishes for the sensation of clippers against their scalp and the feeling of their long hair falling away in chunks.
The raw emotion of the assorted topics was incredibly strange for a hairdresser who had not cut off any long hair in over ten years. When sprightly 75-year-old Mabel Jones asked me to relieve her of her waist-length grey plait and then perm what remained, I felt her sadness. Mabel was letting go of something that had been part of her all her life. For me, more recently, trimming a couple of inches off a shoulder-length hairstyle had become a major event.
At first, when these messages bombarded my inbox, I thought it was a peculiar coincidence. But then I realised there was a pattern. These women with a respectable public persona were revealing a hidden dimension of themselves that they could not explore in their ordinary lives. They were polite to their own stylists, always playing it safe. They never dared ask for even a modest change for fear of revealing too much about themselves, and they never had the courage to ask for what they really wanted. But with a stranger on the internet, who held scissors for a living, they felt emboldened to dream aloud.
The more messages I received, the clearer I began to identify an opportunity. I was not just seeing an opening for the business but something much deeper inside of me that I could not articulate. These women wanted someone to transform them. But they wanted to surrender control, to change in ways that felt both terrifying and liberating. And eventually I realised, with a clarity that surprised me, that I wanted to be the one to do it.
understanding
Looking back, I realise that I was learning more about myself, things that I had never fully acknowledged. It related to my difficulty with relationships and my inability to form lasting connections. It was nothing to do with being unable to feel things intensely, it was simply that I felt things differently.
The kind of intimacy I craved was not about dinner dates, walks by the river, and holding hands. It was about power exchange, transformation, and the profound intimacy of trust pushed to its absolute limits.
designating
When I subtly altered my profile on the dating app, I designated my new persona “Destiny”. It seemed fitting. Destiny, not Isabelle, would be the one to determine the fate of those who came to her. Destiny would shape them according to desires they dare not speak aloud.
During conversations, I hinted at the services I could offer in the vaguest of terms. I mentioned a modest restyling, ranging through to a complete transformation with the chance to reset and rebuild according to fantasy. I did not explicitly spell out the details as I did not need to. Those who understood would recognise the opportunities immediately, and those who failed to understand would not be reaching out to me anyway.
The responses were immediate and overwhelming. There were women who recoiled at the suggestion and blocked me. Then there were the fakes who were easy to identify and who I blocked. But others wrote back with an eagerness that confirmed I had found my calling. They were willing to pay and pay well for an experience they could not find anywhere else. It would be an experience that combined their deepest fantasies with a professional’s skill so that they could achieve their destiny.
For those clients who were serious, I refined my list of services into something resembling a menu. That said, I always left room for customisation for anyone’s specific desires that they wanted fulfilled. A proportion simply wanted a haircut that I might impose upon them, preserving their anonymity and giving them a secret to treasure forever. Others wanted a great deal more, often amounting to a full sensory experience. It was the surrender of not just their appearance but their entire sense of self. For these clients, I was prepared to offer everything for an extortionate price that only the most resolute would be able to afford and be willing to pay.
preparing
When I took over the salon, I operated only from the front section that bordered the street. To the rear was a separate room that had served as a gentlemen’s barbershop that the husband of the previous salon owner had once run. I had always used the space as a simple storeroom, but all the barbershop fixtures, including an old-fashioned hydraulic chair and large mirrors, remained in place. I tidied it up and checked the fittings before making modifications for its use as my transformation studio.
As I prepared my studio, in the back of my mind was my own desire. What did I want? What had I been missing in all those failed relationships? As I prepared for my first official appointment, I began to understand that what I had craved – what I still craved – was exactly what they would offer me for what I could now provide.
They would submit to me, giving their complete surrender, trusting me absolutely. And they would provide me with the opportunity to completely reshape another person according to my vision. It would not be through coercion or manipulation, but through the willing submission of those who desperately sought exactly what I was keen to offer.
Hannah was my first.
The Voice of Hannah
good girl
I have always been the “good girl”. It is a role I fell into naturally, raised by parents who valued respectability more than anything else. Attending a conservative music college where reputation was everything, I progressed to a career as a piano tutor. Everyone considered it a very suitable profession befitting a woman of my station.
Throughout my twenty-five years my hair has always been my signature. Blonde and thick, it has always fallen to the back of my knees like something from a pre-Raphaelite painting. People from orchestra conductors to shop workers have complimented me on it since I was a child.
‘Such lovely hair,’ the ladies at church would say, patting my head. ‘What a proper young lady you are.’
My problem has always been that I have never really felt proper. Beneath the floral dresses and the carefully arranged braid, beneath the smile I present to the world, there has always been something else. Something that surfaced in dreams that I could not explain. Fantasies that made me blush when I finally allowed myself to acknowledge them.
I wanted ruination. Not in any physically violent way, of course, but in the sense of peeling away my outer persona. Revealing myself as something other than what I appeared to be. I wanted someone to study me carefully, then see through the careful construction with clarity, before revealing the real person underneath. Once identified, I wanted that person to do something about what they found there. I wanted them to transform me into something new.
arranging
The first time I stumbled across Destiny’s profile, I knew instantly that what she was offering was what I had been searching for. The language was careful and suggestive rather than explicit, but I understood. She was a hairdresser, but one who would undertake a transformation according to the client’s fantasy. It would not be just a haircut but an experience and a surrender.
I filled out the form she had devised with my hands shaking. I was ticking boxes for services that felt scandalous even in the privacy of my own apartment. When I got to the section labelled “Limits”, I paused for a long time, wondering what I would not be comfortable with. Finally, I simply checked the “No limits” box. Although I was unsure of the implication of not setting boundaries, I knew that I was declaring myself willing to receive whatever Destiny chose to bestow upon me.
Our preliminary messages were brief but electric. I found myself being honest for the first time in my life. I told her about the dreams and fantasies that embarrassed me when I awoke in the morning. The strange arousal I felt at the thought of being vulnerable, exposed, and at someone else’s complete mercy.
Destiny went on to review my responses to her questionnaire, asking for clarification where she felt it necessary. However, I suspected she was simply establishing a dialogue between us, as her comprehensive list had covered everything that I knew. Or, as I found out later, everything I thought I knew.
When she asked if I had any final questions, I realised I had none. I was willingly placing myself completely in her hands.
scheduling
Destiny scheduled my appointment for Sunday afternoon, when her business remained closed all day.
Driving past her unpretentious salon nestled in a parade of small shops on the edge of town, I idly wondered who the proprietor of Cut & Style by Isabelle was. I continued down the street and turned into a side road as Destiny had directed before parking in the secluded delivery area at the back.
Without giving myself time to think about the wisdom of what I was doing, I locked my car, walked to the plain metal door, and rang the bell.
Destiny was taller and plainer than I expected, with her dark hair slicked back from her face and secured in a tight topknot. The knee-length black lace dress she wore looked suitable for a cocktail party and added a touch of elegance to her appearance. Her makeup was professional, if understated, but it made her eyes look cat-like and predatory. They assessed me with an intensity that made me feel suddenly, deliciously, exposed.
When she did not speak, just stared, I tried to find my voice. ‘Hello, I am –’
‘Enter,’ she instructed flatly, so I followed her down a short corridor, the heavy door immediately swinging closed behind me and locking with a resounding click. We entered a large room that more closely resembled a men’s barbershop than a women’s hair salon. Given Destiny’s profession and the normality of the shopfront I had passed earlier, I was confused.
‘Hannah,’ she said. ‘Take off your dress.’
The words were simple, almost conversational, but they sent a shock of fear through my whole body. I obeyed, folding the floral fabric carefully; old habits die hard, as I felt myself on the pinnacle of becoming someone new. Standing there in my simple undergarments, I waited for her next instruction.
She slowly walked around a couple of times, studying and assessing, as I quivered with nervousness. Without a word, she undid my bra and rolled down my knickers so that I was standing completely naked in front of her. No one had ever inspected me as if was a commodity, and the realisation aroused me to the core. My nipples betrayed my reaction to her scrutiny. She noticed, looking amused, as she gently pinched them to turn me on even more.
‘Sit,’ she instructed, raising an arm and pointing to the chair in the middle of the room.
The chair was strange, nothing like the standard styling chairs I had experienced before when I had my hair trimmed. Attached to a heavy metal pedestal bolted to the floor, it resembled those you saw in old barbershops from a hundred years ago. The seat comprised worn iron and scuffed black leather, with a selection of levers and pedals attached to the base. Substantial armrests, a footplate, and a high backrest all contributed to the idea that it was manoeuvrable to any position Destiny desired.
No sooner had I sat than the chair began to rise in short, jerky movements initiated by Destiny. She pumped it higher and higher, until my feet dangled helplessly in the air, leaving me feeling vulnerable.
Destiny produced an impossibly thick rubber cape, quite unlike the light cotton salon gowns with which I was familiar. She held it up in front of me, and, obediently, I slipped my arms through the holes, only to discover she had stitched the ends shut so my hands could not pass through. Tugging hidden strings from behind, she pulled my wrists tight and secured my arms firmly against my body.
Passing the ropes through clasps attached to the chair, Destiny ratcheted them tightly, buckling me into place, preventing me from moving. I was completely immobilised, wrapped like a mummy in thick rubber, secured to a chair that held me suspended and vulnerable.
My heart should have been racing with fear. And part of it was the deep-seated animal instinct that warns of danger and helplessness. But a greater part, the part that had been waiting for this moment my entire life, was thrumming with pure, unadulterated arousal.
Destiny circled me slowly, examining her handiwork. ‘Beautiful,’ she murmured, her face a picture of profound satisfaction as she ran her fingers through my loose hair, whose ends skimmed the floor.
And I believed and trusted her assessment. I had never felt truer to myself and more seen by someone than I had in that moment.
Trapped, exposed, and entirely at her mercy, Destiny then picked up her scissors.
cutting
As she flexed her fingers through the cold metal, I realised these reflective blades were not the precision instruments she would use in her salon next door. These resembled the massive shears used by a dressmaker wishing to transform a delicate cloth into something sharper, newer, and bolder. With no words necessary, the sharp look in Destiny’s eyes indicated that was exactly what she intended for my hair.
The sound of those ridiculously large blades cutting through the first tendril was impossibly loud in the quiet room. I sensed the weight lift from my head, and I felt the long lock of hair skim over my shoulder, whisper down my body, and swish loudly as it plopped on the floor.
I whimpered something unintelligible, desperately needing to protest her stripping away my lifelong identity, but knowing that I desperately wanted her to continue. The dichotomy strangled my ability to speak coherently.
‘Now, now, Hannah, don’t be naughty,’ Destiny cooed, wiping away a non-existent tear from the corner of my eye. ‘You need to be a good girl.’
My mind was screaming that I had been a good girl for my whole life, and I wanted to break free from that constraint. I grunted something that sounded vaguely like agreeing to her demand, and I continued staring straight ahead. She rewarded me with a curt nod and a tight smile.
More thick chunks of my signature blonde tresses fell away, floating to the floor like golden snow. Each snip of the scissors sent ripples of sensation through my entire body. I was trembling and shaking, and I could not have said whether it was fear or desire or an incredibly complex combination of the two.
‘Such a beautiful golden rug you have provided for my floor, Hannah. Soft underfoot and decorous to view,’ she praised, rubbing the remains of my cropped locks. ‘So much more useful there, then adorning your head.’
I felt the need to challenge her assertion, clearing my dry throat and opening my mouth. She put a stop to that before I had even started by placing her finger against my lips.
‘Shush now,’ she warned, as she exchanged the shears for a set of ancient red hairclippers. ‘You must prepare yourself,’ she explained, holding up the device threateningly and flicking the switch to the accompaniment of a raucous whine.
clippering
I could never have prepared myself for the voracious blades vibrating against my skull as she shaved away the remaining stubble. The sensation was extraordinarily intense, somehow both invasive and incredibly intimate. Like in my dreams, I felt my body responding in ways I could not control. Heat was pooling between my thighs, and my nipples were tightening against the unforgiving rubber cape. When she ran her palm over my newly bare scalp, it felt like she was triggering the nerve ending of every single follicle. The thrill was so powerful, I bit my lip but could not prevent myself from whimpering.
‘Stop,’ I heard myself murmur, the word barely recognisable through my breathing, my senses overloaded. ‘Please, Destiny, I just can’t…’
She paused as my words faded, her hand still resting on my denuded scalp. ‘Do you want me to stop, Hannah?’
The question hung in the air. Did I? My body was screaming with sensations that I had no framework to understand, with overload and ecstasy intertwined. Every nerve ending felt stripped raw, newly sensitive. I had never felt more alive.
‘No, Destiny,’ I finally admitted. ‘Please don’t stop.’
She smiled at my complete submission, and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
shaving
The hours that followed were a blur of sensation and transformation.
Twice she coated my scalp with warm foam before scraping it away with an old-fashioned razor. She wiped it clean, and it shone, with no hint of a shadow. But it was not enough for Destiny. She took a jar and a soft cloth before enthusiastically buffing my head until it gleamed like a billiard ball.
Destiny aggressively thinned my eyebrows before shaping each one into an elegant arch. She applied heavier makeup than I had ever worn in my life, having kept my appearance fresh and uncomplicated to complement my “good girl” image. Her expert touch enhanced my features, maintaining a sense of innocence but simultaneously giving me an overtly sexual veneer. Alert dark-rimmed eyes, high and sharp cheekbones, and full red lips augmented the gleam of my scalp in a way that simply looked right.
When she had finished, she removed the rubber cape and helped me into the outfit she had selected for me. She had chosen a black leather miniskirt, a tight lace and leather boned corset, fishnet stockings. The ensemble was deliberately provocative, nothing like the floral dresses I had habitually worn in the past.
finishing
She positioned me in front of the mirror, and I barely recognised the bald, sexual, transformed creature reflected there. My hands began to explore my body in a way that it had never done before. Cupping my breasts through the tight leather of my corset, my nipples hardened even more than they had throughout my transformation. Without embarrassment, Destiny encouraged my hand under the hem of the short skirt. I allowed my fingers to travel up between my thighs, feeling the warmth that had been building, and I experienced a wave of arousal so intense it bordered on pain. I came right there in front of the mirror, my knees buckling as I knelt in the discarded tresses of my former hair.
Destiny did not give me time to recover. She straddled me, her knees on each side of my face. Then she flipped us over as one, so she reclined on my hair while my face found itself buried between her thighs. Immediately and instinctively, I understood what she expected. Although I had never done anything like this before, with anyone, I found myself eager to please her. Keen to show her that I was now the kind of woman who did these things, wanting to impress her with my ability for this kind of submission and service.
The taste of Destiny was intoxicating, overwhelmingly potent to make me forget my confusion about who I had become. I focused entirely on her pleasure, on being a good girl in her eyes, on earning credit for whatever further transformations she might be willing to bestow in the future.
Afterward, as I lay collapsed in the remnants of my hair, too exhausted to move, Destiny stood over me with a satisfied expression. ‘You were perfect, Hannah,’ she said, and those three words felt like the highest praise I had ever received.
Driving home that night, my bare scalp felt cool, caressed by the chilly evening air from my open window; I felt like I was floating. Whenever I paused in the traffic, people stared at the exotic bald woman in the leather outfit, but I did not shrink from their gaze. Let them look, I thought, and let them see the glorious and confident creature I had become.
I could not wait to see what Destiny might have in store for me next.

epilogue
They say you never forget your first!
The lovely Hannah became a regular client. She came back three more times over the following months, each visit more elaborate than the last. She was eager to please, hungry for whatever I would give her, and I found myself looking forward to our sessions with an anticipation that surprised me.
This connection, I realised, was what I had been missing for fifteen years. It was not romance or conventional relationships that were absent. But it was everything that came from the profound intimacy of drastic transformation, including experiencing the trust of my clients and the control they demanded I exert over them.
But Hannah had been just the beginning, and word quickly spread through certain circles. They spoke of me in discreet forums, exchanged messages on private networks, and whispered recommendations between women who shared this specific hunger. My client base grew, each woman bringing her own desires, setting her own boundaries, and waiting for freedom from her own secret self.
My humdrum days spent in the front salon continued. However, the highlight of my life, during evenings and weekends, was the time I spent in my previously neglected, now upgraded, rear barbershop. It was a sudden and expected change for an urban hairdresser, but it was one I truly relished.
