Christy loved her long brown hair. It was smooth, silky, and arched just above her breasts. She always took the best care of it, brushing it and trimming it regularly, to prevent split ends. However her younger sister Cindy was the exact opposite. Cindy’s hair was just at her shoulders and always looked a mess. She rarely brushed her hair and did not take good care of it. She frequently had knots and breakage, which had to get cut out, leaving her hair shorter than her sister’s hair.

One morning, Cindy’s mother noticed a big knot at the back of Cindy’s head. She told Cindy she’d had enough and was taking her to the salon to get a bob haircut, so it would be easier for her to manage.

Christy overheard her mother and felt bad for her sister, but she knew her mother was right. Getting Cindy’s hair cut shorter would be easier for her. She then looked at her own hair, and thought that if she had her hair cut a little shorter, it would be easier for her too.

When she asked her mother if she could go, her mother agreed, saying she would drop the girls off at the salon, and Christy could oversee the haircuts.

When the girls arrived at the salon, the stylist instructed Cindy to take a seat in the styling chair first. Christy told the stylist, “We’re both going to make a big change, a shorter, easier to manage haircut”. The stylist asked, “What will we be doing?” Christy replied, “We’re doing a bob”. The stylist smiled and said, “That will be a big change”, as she wrapped a cape around Cindy.

The stylist washed Cindy’s hair and began vigorously brushing out the knots. Cindy winced in pain as the stylist tugged at her hair.

After all of the hair was combed smooth, the stylist sectioned Cindy’s hair and began cutting it. The sound of scissors snipping filed the air,

as Cindy’s hair began sliding down the cape. She looked towards her sister and began to sob , saying, “I don’t wanna cut my hair”. Christy tried to console her sister saying, “Don’t cry, it’s just a haircut. I’m getting mine cut too”.

This did little to console Cindy as the stylist kept sniping away at her locks.

When finished, Cindy’s hair was dried smooth and straight, resting right at her chin, in a blunt bob style. Cindy didn’t like it but Christy thought she looked great. Cindy exited her chair and swapped seats with her sister.

As Christy sat in the styling chair, she complimented the stylist, saying “I really like that blunt bob that you gave Cindy, it’s a great style.” The stylist agreed and said, “Yes, it’ll be much easier for her to maintain” Christy agreed saying, “Low maintenance, that’s why I’m cutting mine too”.

To this point, everything Christy said made the stylist think that she wanted a bob too. She asked, “Do you want yours blunt cut too?” Christy responded, “Yes, I want mine cut a little shorter”. Still thinking Christy wanted a bob, she was surprised that she wanted her hair cut shorter than Cindy’s. So the stylist confirmed by asking, “You want it shorter?” Christy replied, “Yes”, replied Christy, “it’s getting too long. I wasn’t going to do it, but when I heard Cindy was going to get a haircut, I decided to cut mine too.”

The stylist started by brushing Christy’s hair, which took no effort at all. She picked up her shears, and asked one final time, “Are you sure about this?” Go for it”, replied Christy, “and make the ends blunt. I like it like that”

The stylist then gathered Christy’s hair behind her with one hand, and with her other hand, she used her shears to quickly saw off Christy’s hair from the base of her neck, liberating her tail from her head, and leaving her with the beginnings of a short jagged bob cut.

Christy went into shock when she saw the stylist holding her hair in her hand. Then screamed out, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” Calmly, the stylist replied “There’s no sense in washing it if I’m only gonna cut it off, now it’ll be easier to wash” Christy, now shocked and confused shouted, WHY WOULD YOU CUT OFF MY HAIR!” The stylist was now puzzled and said, I’m doing what you asked for. I’m cutting your hair shorter than your sister’s.”

Christy strongly denied saying that she wanted her hair cut shorter than Cindy’s, but the stylist explained how everything she said lead her to believe that was what she wanted.

They continued to debate the conversation for a few minutes, but regardless, it was too late. Christy’s long brown hair, which only minutes earlier hung from her head, now laid on the floor. Seeing her sister’s hair lying on the floor brought a big smile to Cindy’s face.

The stylist then washed Christy’s hair and began to section it. Tears rolled down Christy’s cheek as with each snip of the scissors, her hair slid down the cape. As the scissors sliced just under her ears, her hoop earrings that only moments earlier were hidden by hair were now fully exposed. Through her tears, she saw her sister smiling who then teased Christy by saying “Don’t cry, it’s just a haircut. Remember?”

Christy finally breathed a sigh of relief when the stylist put the scissors down, but panicked when she saw the stylist pick up an electric trimmer. “What’s that for?”, asked Christy. “Relax, I’m just cleaning up your neck hairs”, replied the stylist. Christy winced in pain as the trimmer dug into her neck, removing any stray neck hairs and shaped up her neckline. When finished, the stylist removed her cape, leaving Christy with a blunt earlobe length bob, which was…..shorter than Cindy’s.
