Madison swirled her wine glass as she watched her three friends gather in the living room. Each of them was effortlessly stunning—Chloe, with her flowing golden waves and doe-eyed charm; Sabrina, a smoldering brunette with thick, bouncy curls that cascaded down her back; and Emma, tall and striking, her sleek, silky hair brushing her hips. They were the kind of group that turned heads, and Madison loved it.

But lately, it felt like they were stealing her spotlight. She hated the whispers at parties—“Chloe is so hot!” “Sabrina looks like a goddess!” “Emma is unreal!” It wasn’t jealousy, Madison told herself. It was strategy. Tonight, she would ensure that she was the center of attention.

“Ladies!” Madison called, clapping her hands. “Roxy’s here!”

The hairstylist strode into the room with a swagger that immediately set the tone. Dressed in a leather crop top, ripped jeans, and heavy combat boots, Roxy looked like someone who belonged backstage at a punk concert. Her tool kit clinked ominously as she set it on the counter.

“You’re the stylist?” Sabrina asked, raising an eyebrow as her fingers absently played with her long curls.

“That’s me,” Roxy said with a smirk. “You’re in for a treat.”

Emma frowned, crossing her arms. “Wait, I thought this was just for touch-ups.”

Madison stepped forward with a breezy laugh. “Don’t be silly! We’re going all out tonight. Trust me, Roxy is amazing. She’s going to make us look unforgettable.”

Chloe tilted her head, already skeptical. “Unforgettable… how?”

“Relax, Chloe,” Madison said, placing a hand on her shoulder and steering her toward the chair. “You’ll go first. Let’s bring out those cheekbones!”

Chloe hesitated. “But I like my hair the way it is…”

“Exactly! You’re gorgeous, but this will elevate you to the next level,” Madison purred, practically pushing her into the chair.

Roxy snapped her gum and pulled a section of Chloe’s golden waves between her fingers. “You’d kill with a bob. Something sharp. Sexy.”

“A bob?!” Chloe’s eyes widened. “No, no, no. I just wanted—”

“Trust me, babe,” Roxy interrupted, grabbing her scissors. “This is gonna frame your face perfectly.”

Chloe looked to Madison for help, but Madison waved her hand dismissively. “It’ll be amazing. Just do it.”

SNIP!

Chloe gasped audibly as the first lock of hair hit the floor. The room fell silent except for the rhythmic slicing of Roxy’s shears.

“Oh my God,” Sabrina muttered, her hands instinctively flying to her own hair. “She’s cutting so much off.”

Chloe’s lip quivered as more of her golden hair was hacked away, the strands pooling around her feet like fallen petals. Madison hovered behind the chair, grinning.

“It’s fine,” Madison said sweetly. “You’ll thank me later.”

Chloe’s head jerked slightly as Roxy worked with precision, slicing sharp layers into the remaining hair. When the clippers came out to clean up the nape of Chloe’s neck, she squealed. “What’s that? You’re not shaving anything, are you?”

“Relax,” Roxy said flatly, pressing the clippers to Chloe’s neck. “Just cleaning it up.”

Chloe’s face crumpled as the buzz filled the room, tears welling in her eyes. When Roxy finally spun her around, the group gasped.

Chloe looked… incredible. Her jaw-length bob was angular, sleek, and modern, highlighting her delicate features. But Chloe didn’t see it that way.

“I look like a… like a boy,” she sniffled, running her hands over the blunt ends.

“No, you don’t,” Madison said quickly, hiding her glee. “You look chic. Trust me.”

Roxy dusted off the chair. “Next.”

Sabrina’s arms wrapped around her thick curls. “I’m not doing this. No way.”

Madison walked over to her with a faux-patient smile. “Sabrina, don’t be dramatic. You’ve been saying for years how much you hate dealing with all that hair.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t mean I wanted to cut it all off!”

“Come on,” Madison coaxed. “It’s your chance to stand out. Don’t be boring.”

After a tense standoff, Sabrina huffed and threw herself into the chair. “Fine. But just a trim. That’s it.”

Roxy raised an eyebrow but said nothing. She grabbed the clippers again, flicking them on with a menacing buzz.

Sabrina jumped. “What are you doing with those?!”

“Giving you a fresh, edgy look,” Roxy said, already lifting Sabrina’s curls.

Madison leaned over the chair, smiling wickedly. “Something shorter would really show off your shoulders.”

Roxy didn’t wait for approval. She plunged the clippers into Sabrina’s thick hair, carving a dramatic skin fade along the sides and back. Sabrina yelped as the clippers hummed against her scalp, her eyes wide with shock.

“Stop! That’s too short!” she shrieked.

“Too late now,” Roxy said coolly, continuing her work.

Madison grinned, pretending to console her. “It’s edgy. You’ll look like a runway model.”

Sabrina glared at her, tears streaming down her cheeks. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

Madison shrugged. “Only because you’re going to look amazing.”

Roxy grabbed a comb and gel, slicking back the slightly longer top. The sharp contrast between the glossy top and the shaved sides made Sabrina look bold and intimidating, but she was too horrified to see it.

When it was Emma’s turn, she stood her ground, her sleek, waist-length hair shining like silk under the living room lights. She crossed her arms defiantly. “No way. You’re not touching my hair.”

Madison placed her hands on her hips, her faux-sweet smile becoming slightly sharper. “Emma, you’re the tallest, most striking one here. We’ve all done something bold tonight. You’re not going to chicken out, are you?”

Emma shook her head. “I’ve spent years growing this out. I’m not ruining it for some edgy experiment.”

Roxy, unfazed, leaned back against the counter, spinning her scissors in her fingers. “Suit yourself, princess. But I gotta say, with bone structure like yours, you’re wasting all that hair.”

Emma faltered, glancing at her reflection in the mirror. She knew her face was striking, with high cheekbones and an angular jaw. She liked the way her long hair softened her edges, giving her a feminine, glamorous allure.

Madison stepped closer, her voice dripping with manipulation. “Emma, think about it. Short hair would make you look fierce. Confident. You’re always saying you want to try something new. This is your chance to be unforgettable.”

Emma hesitated. “I don’t know…”

“You can trust Roxy,” Madison said, placing a reassuring hand on Emma’s arm. “She’s a professional.”

“Damn right I am,” Roxy chimed in, flipping on her clippers with a loud buzz.

Emma flinched at the sound, taking a step back. “Wait! I didn’t agree to clippers!”

Madison grabbed Emma gently but firmly by the shoulders, steering her into the chair. “Emma, relax. Just a little off the length. You’ll look amazing.”

Emma glanced at Sabrina and Chloe, their tear-streaked faces still flushed from their own drastic transformations. They avoided her gaze, knowing they couldn’t save her.

“Fine,” Emma said, sitting stiffly in the chair. “But only a trim. I mean it.”

Roxy smirked, her eyes flicking toward Madison for approval. Madison gave a subtle nod.

“Got it,” Roxy said, positioning herself behind Emma. “Just a trim.”

Emma closed her eyes, gripping the armrests tightly as Roxy sectioned her hair into long, silky lengths.

The first SNAP of the scissors made Emma’s eyes fly open. She gasped as a massive lock of her hair slid down her shoulder and landed on her lap.

“Wait, what are you doing?!” she shouted, reaching for her hair.

Roxy swatted her hands away. “Trust the process, babe.”

Madison chimed in, her tone firm. “Emma, sit still. You’ll ruin it.”

Before Emma could protest further, Roxy grabbed the clippers again and tilted Emma’s head forward.

“No, no, no! I didn’t agree to this!” Emma cried, trying to stand up.

Madison placed both hands on Emma’s shoulders, forcing her back down. “Stop being so dramatic! You’re going to look incredible.”

Roxy wasted no time, running the clippers up the back of Emma’s head with ruthless efficiency. Thick, glossy strands of hair rained down onto the floor as Emma’s once-flowing mane was reduced to mere millimeters.

Emma’s voice cracked as she pleaded, “Please, stop! This is too short!”

Roxy grinned, unfazed. “Too late now, sweetheart.”

The room was silent except for the relentless hum of the clippers. Roxy worked with surgical precision, buzzing the back and sides down to the skin, leaving only the faintest shadow of stubble.

Emma sobbed quietly, her tears mixing with the hair clippings on her lap. “This isn’t what I wanted…”

Madison crouched down to face her, brushing a few stray strands off Emma’s cheek. “Emma, you’re going to be the star tonight. Just wait and see.”

Roxy moved to the top, grabbing the remaining length and slicing it down to just a few inches. The jagged crop left Emma’s sharp features fully exposed, her cheekbones and jawline taking center stage.

“I’ll leave a little texture,” Roxy said, ruffling the short strands on top. “But this is the look you didn’t know you needed.”

Emma stared at her reflection in horror. Her once-glamorous hair was gone, replaced by a brutally short crop that left her looking fierce and raw. The stark contrast between the buzzed sides and the choppy, slightly longer top gave her an edgy, rebellious vibe.

Madison clapped her hands together, beaming. “Oh my God, Emma. You look stunning.”

Emma’s voice wavered as she touched the short, prickly sides of her head. “I look… awful.”

“No, you don’t,” Madison said sharply. “You look confident. Powerful.”

Chloe and Sabrina exchanged uneasy glances, each of them secretly grateful their own cuts weren’t quite as extreme.

As the dust settled, Sabrina finally asked the question everyone was thinking. “Why aren’t you getting a haircut, Madison?” “Madison, it’s your turn” teary-eyed Emma said. “Ya, time to chop your hair off” Chloe yelled. But Madison had already planned it all out. As if on cue, Roxy started packing “So sorry girls, I really have to run. Have fun tonight”. And just like that, Madison was off the hook, hair unscathed.

The girls exchanged skeptical looks but said nothing.

When they arrived at the club, Madison strutted in confidently, expecting the spotlight to fall on her. But to her dismay, all eyes were on Chloe, Sabrina, and Emma. Their bold new looks drew compliments and attention from every corner of the room.

“You’re so edgy!” someone gushed to Emma. “That haircut is unreal.”

“I love your slicked-back look,” another said to Sabrina.

Even Chloe, who had cried the most, was being swarmed with compliments about her chic bob.

Madison, with her untouched, perfectly styled waves, faded into the background. Her plan had backfired spectacularly, leaving her to watch in quiet frustration as her friends basked in the attention she had desperately wanted for herself.
