Kathy had always kept her soft, shoulder-length brown hair in a neat, feminine bob that framed her pretty face just so—the kind of look her husband Mark still complimented every morning when he kissed her goodbye. At thirty-eight she still turned heads, with those warm brown eyes, the gentle curve of her smile, and the way her black top hugged her figure. The little planet-and-star choker around her neck was a gift from Mark on their last anniversary, and she never took it off.

That Saturday morning Mark had an unexpected work call that would keep him tied up until late afternoon. He came into the kitchen while she was finishing her coffee and gave her that apologetic half-smile she knew so well.

“Babe, I can’t take Jake to the barbershop today. Can you run him over to Tony’s Classic Cuts? The kid’s starting to look like a sheepdog. It’s the old place on Maple—my dad used to go there. Just drop him off, wait for the cut, and bring him home. Shouldn’t take more than half an hour.”

Kathy raised an eyebrow. She had never been inside a traditional men’s barbershop in her life. The idea felt oddly intimate, almost intrusive. Still, Jake was fifteen and already rolling his eyes at the idea of his mother tagging along.

“Fine,” she said, setting her mug down. “But you’re buying dinner tonight.”

Twenty minutes later she and Jake were in the car. The boy sprawled in the passenger seat, scrolling on his phone, while Kathy drove through the quiet suburban streets. The closer they got to the older part of town, the more the modern storefronts gave way to brick buildings and faded painted signs. Tony’s Classic Cuts sat on a corner, its striped barber pole slowly turning, the big front window already fogged a little from the morning heat.

Kathy parked, smoothed her skirt, and followed her son inside.

The moment the door closed behind them the smell hit her—warm leather, bay rum, talcum powder, and the clean metallic scent of clippers. The shop was pure old-time Americana: black-and-white checkered floor, long mirrors lined with chrome, heavy wooden chairs with red leather seats and ornate armrests, shelves stacked with colorful bottles of tonic and aftershave. A single ceiling fan turned lazily overhead. Only three other men were in the place—two older guys waiting and one in the chair getting a clean taper. The barber, a broad-shouldered man in his late forties with thick arms and a white smock, glanced up and gave a polite nod.

Kathy felt suddenly out of place. Every pair of eyes flicked toward her for a second before returning to their magazines or phones. She guided Jake to the last empty chair against the wall and sat down beside him, crossing her legs, trying not to fidget with the thin black choker at her throat. The shop was quiet except for the low buzz of clippers and the soft snip of scissors. She could feel the warm air on the back of her neck where her bob brushed her skin.

Jake was already half-tuned out, but Kathy kept glancing around, taking in the old photographs on the walls, the straight razors laid out on the counter, the heavy cape draped over the man in the chair. Something about the place felt charged—intimate in a way a regular salon never was. She shifted in her seat, the leather creaking softly under her, and waited for their turn, completely unaware of how thoroughly her neat brown bob was about to become the center of attention.

The wait stretched longer than Kathy expected. She sat with her legs crossed, one foot gently bouncing, watching the older man in the chair get finished with a clean fade and a splash of spicy aftershave. When the barber finally turned and called out, “Jake?” her son stood up with the usual teenage reluctance, stuffed his phone in his pocket, and shuffled forward.

Kathy rose a little in her seat, watching closely as Jake settled into the heavy red leather chair. The barber spun him around to face the mirror, snapped a black cape around the boy’s neck with practiced ease, and then looked past him—straight at Kathy.

His eyes lingered on her for a second longer than necessary: the neat brown bob that brushed her shoulders, the soft smile still lingering on her lips, the thin black choker with its tiny planet and star resting against the hollow of her throat. He gave a small, polite smile.

“What’ll it be for the young man?”

Kathy cleared her throat, suddenly aware of how quiet the shop had become. “My husband says a number two all over.”

The barber simply nodded, no questions, no suggestions. He turned to the counter, selected a heavy set of professional clippers, and snapped a #2 guard into place with a sharp metallic click. The sound seemed louder than it should have been in the still air. He flicked the switch; the clippers came to life with a low, steady buzz that filled the shop.

Kathy watched, almost transfixed, as the barber placed a firm hand on the top of Jake’s head, tilted it forward, and began the first long, even pass from the nape upward. Dark hair fell in soft clumps onto the cape and the checkered floor. The #2 left a short, uniform stubble—neat, masculine, no-nonsense. Jake barely moved, already used to the routine.

But Kathy’s eyes stayed locked on the clippers. The way they glided so easily, the way the hair simply vanished under the vibrating teeth, the clean line of freshly buzzed scalp that appeared with every stroke. She shifted in her chair, the leather creaking softly beneath her. Her own soft brown bob suddenly felt heavier against her neck, the ends tickling her collarbones. She reached up without thinking and tucked a strand behind her ear, fingers brushing the thin choker.

The barber worked methodically, left side, right side, top, then a careful pass around the ears and the back of the neck. Every few seconds the soft *shhhk* of the clippers was followed by another small shower of hair. Kathy’s breathing had grown a little shallower. She couldn’t look away. Something about the sound, the sight of hair being reduced to nothing so quickly and cleanly, sent a strange, warm flutter low in her stomach that she didn’t fully understand.

When the barber finally switched the clippers off and brushed the last loose hairs from Jake’s neck, the boy’s head was a perfect, even #2—short, bristly, and completely transformed. The barber spun the chair back toward the mirror so Jake could see.

Kathy was still staring.

The barber glanced at her again over the top of Jake’s head, one eyebrow slightly raised, as if he had noticed exactly where her attention had been the entire time.

The barber switched off the clippers and set them aside. With a practiced flick he unsnapped the cape from around Jake’s neck, shook the dark clippings onto the floor, and gave the boy a light push on the shoulder. Jake slid out of the chair, rubbed a hand over his newly bristled head, and wandered back to the waiting area without a word, already pulling his phone out again.

Kathy stood, smoothing her skirt, ready to walk to the register and pay. She had just taken one step when the barber’s voice cut through the quiet shop—low, calm, and absolute.

“Kathy. You’re next.”

She froze. A soft, nervous laugh escaped her. “Oh—no, I’m just here for my son. We’re finished.”

The barber didn’t smile. He simply looked at her with that same knowing expression he had worn while she watched Jake’s hair fall. The two older men in the waiting chairs glanced up. Even Jake lifted his eyes from his phone for a second.

“Get in the chair. Now, Kathy.”

The command landed like a warm hand on the back of her neck. Her legs went soft. Something deep in her stomach fluttered hard. She didn’t decide to move—her body simply obeyed. Slow, almost dreamlike steps carried her across the checkered floor. The red leather chair still held the faint warmth of her son’s body as she sank into it. The barber stepped behind her, lifted the black cape, and settled it around her shoulders with deliberate care. The snap at the back of her neck was soft but final. The fabric draped over her black top and the little planet-and-star choker, leaving only her head and throat exposed.

She lifted her eyes to the mirror.

The woman staring back looked like a stranger—wide brown eyes, soft mouth parted, neat brown bob suddenly feeling ridiculous and temporary under the bright shop lights. Behind her the barber stood close, the heavy clippers already in his hand, the #2 guard still locked in place from Jake’s cut. He rested the cool metal teeth gently against her forehead, right at the hairline, and waited.

Kathy’s breath caught. Her pulse hammered in her throat beneath the thin black choker. She was too shocked, too strangely, shamefully aroused to speak, to protest, to do anything except watch her own wide-eyed reflection as the first long, irreversible pass was about to begin.

The barber’s free hand rose and slid slowly into the soft brown fringe at the front of her head. Thick fingers combed through the silky strands, lifting them, letting them fall, testing the weight and the length. Kathy’s reflection watched every movement, wide-eyed and silent beneath the black cape.

“You need something special,” he said, voice low and certain, loud enough for the quiet shop to hear. “Can’t give you the same as your son.”

He set the clippers down for a moment, thumbed the release, and the plastic #2 guard clicked free. The bare metal blades gleamed under the overhead lights—sharp, hungry, nothing between them and her scalp. Kathy’s breath stuttered. Her fingers tightened on the armrests until the leather creaked.

The barber stepped in closer behind her. One broad hand settled on the crown of her head, tilting it back just a fraction so her throat arched against the thin black choker. The other hand brought the naked clippers forward. He rested the cold, vibrating teeth exactly at her hairline, right in the center of her forehead where the soft brown bangs began.

The first low buzz filled the air again—deeper, more intimate without the guard. Kathy stared into the mirror, pulse hammering beneath the little planet-and-star pendant, too stunned and shamefully wet between her thighs to form a single word of protest as the blades hovered, ready to erase everything.

Kathy’s body reacted before her mind could catch up. She pressed herself hard into the deep red leather, shoulders digging back, spine arching, as if the plush chair might somehow swallow her and put a few extra inches between the naked blades and the soft brown fringe that had framed her face for years. The cape rustled. The thin black choker tightened slightly against her throat with the movement. Her wide brown eyes locked on the mirror, watching the silver teeth hover at her hairline like a threat she both dreaded and craved.

The barber only smiled—slow, knowing—and ignored the tiny retreat. His free hand stayed firm on the crown of her head, holding her steady. Then, with deliberate, almost loving slowness, he pushed the open clippers forward.

The vibrating metal sank straight into the thick curtain of her bangs.

A soft, dense *shhhhhk* filled the shop as the first wide strip of brown hair was sheared away in one continuous, merciless pass. Soft clumps tumbled down the front of the black cape and scattered across her lap. In the mirror a clean, pale rectangle of scalp appeared right in the center of her forehead, startlingly naked against the remaining dark hair on either side. The cool air of the shop kissed the newly exposed skin, and a full-body shiver raced through Kathy so hard the leather creaked beneath her.

She didn’t speak. She couldn’t. Her lips parted, breath coming shallow and quick, while a shameful, molten heat bloomed low in her belly and between her thighs. The barber kept the clippers moving in that same slow, unbroken stroke, pushing deeper, erasing more of the soft brown fringe with every fraction of an inch, the blades already hungry for the rest of her neat little bob.

The first long strip of soft brown bangs was already gone, a clean pale rectangle of scalp gleaming under the shop lights, when the barber tilted Kathy’s head a fraction more and drove the naked blades sideways. Another dense *shhhhhk* filled the air as a second wide swath of hair fell away, then a third, the remaining fringe collapsing in uneven dark clumps onto the black cape. Without the guard the cut was mercilessly close—skin-tight, almost shiny already where the metal had passed.

Across the shop Jake sat frozen in the waiting chair, phone forgotten in his lap. His own fresh #2 stubble still felt strange under his fingertips, but what was happening to his mother made that look like a gentle trim. His eyes went wide, mouth slightly open, as he watched the barber methodically erase the neat brown bob that had always framed her pretty face. Every pass left her shorter than him—no soft half-inch of length, just the raw, exposed curve of her scalp appearing strip by strip. The two older customers had stopped pretending to read their magazines; they watched in open silence.

Kathy felt the heat of her son’s stare even as the clippers kept moving. A fresh rush of shame and arousal flooded through her, so strong her thighs pressed together under the cape. She could see Jake’s shocked reflection in the mirror beside her own—his stunned teenage face, the way he couldn’t look away—while the barber’s free hand guided her head and the vibrating blades continued their slow, irreversible journey across the top of her skull, shearing her down far past anything her son had just received.

Kathy’s hips shifted restlessly against the firm leather, the black cape whispering with every tiny movement. She tried to press her thighs together, tried to ignore the thick, shameful heat that had soaked through her panties and kept spreading, but the sensation only grew stronger with every pass of the naked blades. The barber worked her like a new recruit in basic training—long, overlapping strokes from front to back, left to right, methodical and merciless. Soft brown hair continued to cascade down the cape in heavy clumps, the remaining length vanishing so quickly that the smooth, pale curve of her scalp was already dominating the mirror. No soft stubble like Jake’s #2. Just bare, freshly clipped skin that gleamed under the bright shop lights.

Jake still hadn’t looked away. His shocked teenage face stayed locked on the transformation, watching his mother’s neat bob disappear strip by strip until she was already shorter, smoother, more exposed than he had ever been.

The barber leaned in close. His breath was warm against the shell of her ear, voice low enough that only she could hear the filthy certainty in it.

“I know how wet you’re getting now…”

A full-body shiver ripped through her. Kathy’s eyes fluttered, lips parting on a silent gasp as another wide swath of hair fell away and cool air kissed newly naked scalp. The whisper, the slow drag of the blades, the public silence of the shop, and the burning awareness of her own son watching all collided at once. She squirmed harder in the chair, the leather creaking, thighs rubbing together under the cape in a desperate, useless attempt to ease the throbbing ache between them while the barber simply kept shearing, turning her into something raw and irrevocably bare.

The barber’s lips stayed close to her ear, the low rumble of his voice sliding under the steady buzz of the open blades.

“Is this everything you wanted? I saw how focused you were when I buzzed your son…”

Kathy’s breath hitched hard. A fresh wave of heat flooded between her thighs, so sharp she had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from making a sound. In the mirror she watched his free hand guide her head a fraction to the left, exposing the right side completely. Then the naked clippers pressed against her temple and began their slow, relentless journey.

*Shhhhhk.*

A thick curtain of soft brown hair peeled away in one continuous strip, falling in heavy clumps across the black cape and onto the checkered floor. The newly bare scalp gleamed pale and smooth under the shop lights, already shorter and cleaner than anything Jake had received. The vibrating metal tracked steadily upward, over the curve of her skull, erasing every last strand on that side while the barber’s knowing whisper still echoed in her ear.

Across the room Jake sat frozen, eyes wide, watching his mother’s neat bob disappear piece by piece. Kathy could feel his stare like a second set of hands on her skin. She squirmed again, thighs pressing together under the cape, the shameful wetness between them impossible to ignore as the clippers finished the right side and left her half-shorn, half-transformed, and throbbing with every slow pass.

The barber gave her no mercy and no pause. He simply kept working—efficient, professional, almost clinical—tilting her head with firm pressure from his free hand while the naked blades carved another long path across the top of her skull. Soft brown hair continued to fall in thick, silent clumps, the last remaining length on the crown vanishing under the relentless *shhhhhk* of the open clippers. Every stroke left her smoother, balder, more exposed. The pale, freshly shorn scalp now dominated the mirror, broken only by the uneven patches still waiting on the left side and the back.

Kathy’s body betrayed her with every pass. The heat between her thighs had become a steady, aching pulse; each vibration of the blades seemed to travel straight down her spine and settle low in her belly. She clenched her jaw, nails digging into the leather armrests, fighting the soft sounds that kept rising in her throat. A tiny whimper escaped anyway—high, helpless—before she bit it back. Another followed when the barber angled the clippers lower along the left side, shearing away another wide strip and letting the cool shop air kiss newly naked skin. Her hips shifted restlessly under the cape, thighs pressing together in a desperate attempt to ease the wet, throbbing pressure, but the movement only made the black fabric rustle and the little planet-and-star choker tighten against her flushed throat.

Across the room Jake still hadn’t looked away. His shocked teenage face stayed locked on the transformation, watching his mother get reduced to bare scalp while she squirmed and struggled to stay silent. The two older customers watched in quiet fascination. The barber never commented, never slowed. He simply continued the methodical shearing, letting Kathy stew in the thick, shameful arousal that grew hotter and wetter with every irreversible pass of the blades.

The final passes were swift and absolute. The barber angled the naked clippers one last time across the crown, then down the back, then carefully around each ear until every remaining soft brown strand had been reduced to the barest shadow of a #0. Nothing longer than a few days’ growth remained—just a tight, uniform velvet of dark stubble that followed every curve of Kathy’s skull. In the mirror the transformation was complete: the neat bob that had framed her pretty face was gone, replaced by the stark, almost military closeness of a fresh zero. Her wide brown eyes looked even larger above the newly exposed forehead; the thin black choker with its little planet-and-star pendant rested against a throat that flushed deeper with every second.

He switched the clippers off. The sudden silence felt heavy. Then he reached for a soft-bristled brush and began sweeping the last tiny clippings from her scalp with slow, deliberate strokes. The bristles whispered across the sensitive stubble, sending fresh shivers down her spine. Kathy’s thighs pressed together hard under the cape; the heat pooled there was almost unbearable now.

The barber leaned in once more, lips nearly brushing the shell of her ear, voice low and certain so that only she could hear.

“You’ll come here tonight at 7:30 when I close the store… so I can finish shaving the rest of your head. Make it completely smooth. Get rid of every last bit of that stubble.”

A soft, helpless moan slipped from her lips—quiet enough that only he caught it. Her eyes fluttered, body trembling under the black cape as the brush continued its slow path over her buzzed scalp. Across the room Jake still stared, stunned into silence by the sight of his mother reduced to a tight #0, while Kathy sat locked in the chair, already aching for the razor that would strip her the rest of the way bare.

The barber’s broad palm settled once more on the crown of Kathy’s head, rubbing slowly over the tight #0 stubble in a lingering, almost proprietary stroke. The short bristles rasped softly against his skin; the sensation traveled straight down her spine and made her thighs clench again beneath the cape. She shivered, eyes half-lidded in the mirror, the little planet-and-star choker rising and falling with every quick breath.

Then he reached behind her neck and unclasped the cape.

The heavy black fabric slid away from her shoulders in one smooth motion. He gathered it in both hands, gave it a firm shake, and a thick cascade of soft brown hair spilled onto the checkered floor—far more than Jake’s neat #2 had produced. Clumps and strands formed a dark, unmistakable pile at the base of the chair, the last physical proof of the bob that had framed her face only minutes earlier. The cool shop air kissed the newly exposed skin of her neck and the sensitive stubble covering her entire scalp.

Kathy sat bare-headed and flushed, the black top and thin choker suddenly feeling almost too revealing without the soft curtain of hair to soften the look. Across the room Jake still stared, phone forgotten, taking in the sight of his mother reduced to a close military buzz while the evidence of her former length lay scattered across the floor.

The barber draped the empty cape over the next chair and gave her a small, knowing smile in the mirror.

“Both haircuts are on the house.”

His voice was calm, final. Kathy’s pulse hammered against the choker as she slowly rose on unsteady legs, the cool air still teasing every freshly buzzed inch of her scalp, the whispered appointment for 7:30 already burning in her mind.

Kathy rose on legs that felt unsteady and too light. The cool air of the shop kissed every inch of her newly buzzed scalp, the tight #0 stubble still tingling from the brush and the barber’s final lingering rub. She lifted one hand almost without thinking and ran her palm slowly over the short, velvet-rough surface, feeling the complete absence of the soft brown bob that had always framed her face. The sensation sent another soft pulse of heat between her thighs.

She walked the few steps to where Jake still sat frozen in the waiting chair. His eyes were wide, locked on the stark transformation—the smooth curve of her skull, the way the black choker now sat against a completely exposed neck, the total loss of the hair he had known his whole life. Kathy took in that shocked teenage face for a long second, her own cheeks still flushed, then reached down and gently closed her fingers around his hand.

“Come on,” she murmured, voice quieter than usual.

She led him toward the door. Behind them the barber had already taken up a broom and was sweeping the thick pile of her soft brown hair across the checkered floor, gathering every last strand into a dark mound that marked the end of the woman who had walked in only a short while earlier. The soft *swish-swish* of the broom followed them as they stepped out into the afternoon light.

Kathy kept one hand on her buzzed head the entire way to the car, fingers tracing the unfamiliar contours, the memory of the barber’s low whisper and the promised 7:30 appointment still burning hot beneath her skin.

They slid into the car in silence. Kathy started the engine with fingers that still trembled slightly, one hand already rising again to brush over the tight #0 stubble that now covered every inch of her scalp. The short drive home was only twenty minutes on a normal day, yet the moment the doors closed it stretched into something far longer and heavier.

Every time she glanced at the side window her own reflection stared back—wide brown eyes, flushed cheeks, the neat brown bob completely gone, replaced by the stark, almost military closeness of the fresh buzz. The thin black choker with its little planet-and-star pendant sat against a neck that had never felt so exposed. Each time another car passed she imagined the drivers turning their heads, staring at the bald woman behind the wheel, wondering what had happened to her.

Worse was the thought of Mark. He had sent her to get their son a simple number two. He had no idea she would come home with her own head sheared down to the skin. The image of his face when he first saw her made her stomach tighten with a strange mix of dread and the same shameful heat that had never fully left her thighs.

And through it all she could feel Jake’s eyes. He sat in the passenger seat, still quiet, still staring. She didn’t need to look to know his gaze stayed locked on the smooth curve of her skull, on the way the afternoon light caught the short dark stubble, on the complete transformation of the mother he had walked into the shop with. Every mile home the weight of that stare pressed against her bare head as heavily as the barber’s whispered command still burned in her ears: 7:30. Tonight. Smooth.

Kathy kept one hand on the wheel and the other restless on her buzzed scalp, the short drive feeling endless while her body continued to ache with everything that had already been taken—and everything still promised.

Unbeknownst to Kathy, the look fixed on her from the passenger seat was no longer simple shock.

Jake sat quietly, seatbelt still fastened, eyes locked on the smooth curve of his mother’s newly buzzed scalp. The tight #0 stubble caught the shifting afternoon light every time the car turned, revealing the clean lines of her skull, the way the black choker now rested against a completely exposed neck, the total absence of the soft brown bob that had always framed her face. What had begun as stunned disbelief in the barbershop had shifted into something deeper and far more dangerous.

Watching her get sheared—watching the barber hold her still while the naked blades erased every last strand—had awakened something inside him. The forced transformation, the way she had squirmed and bitten back moans while her hair fell in heavy clumps, the public silence of the shop as a woman was reduced to bare scalp… it didn’t matter that the woman was his own mother. The sight had burned itself into him. Fascination. Awe. And a sharp, restless want to be the one holding the clippers next time—to take some other woman the same way, to feel the weight of long hair giving way under open blades until nothing remained but smooth, helpless skin.

Kathy kept her eyes on the road, one hand still absently stroking her own stubble, completely unaware that her son’s gaze carried none of the horror she imagined. Only hunger for the act he had just witnessed, and the quiet certainty that he would never look at a full head of hair the same way again.

The neighborhood streets grew more familiar as they neared home, yet Kathy’s pulse only quickened. Her free hand still rested on the tight #0 stubble, fingers tracing the unfamiliar contours while her mind replayed the barber’s low voice and the thick pile of her hair left on the shop floor.

Then, soft and almost hesitant from the passenger seat:

“Mom… can I touch it?”

Kathy’s eyes flicked sideways for a split second. “What?”

“Your head.”

The request landed like another slow pass of the blades. Heat flared low in her belly all over again. She should have said no. She should have told him it was inappropriate, that she was still his mother, that the whole afternoon had already gone far enough. Instead her voice came out quiet, almost submissive.

“…Okay.”

She kept both hands on the wheel now, staring straight ahead as the car rolled the last few blocks. Jake leaned across the center console. His fingers were tentative at first—just the lightest brush of fingertips over the short, velvet-rough stubble at the side of her skull. The sensation was electric. Every nerve ending on her newly buzzed scalp seemed to light up under that single curious touch. He grew bolder by degrees, palm settling more fully, slowly stroking across the crown the same way the barber had after the final pass.

Kathy’s breath caught. Her thighs pressed together hard. The meek little nod she had given him suddenly felt like another surrender, and the warm weight of her son’s hand exploring the bare shape of her head only fed the shameful ache that had never fully left her since the clippers first touched her bangs.

The final five minutes of the drive stretched into something intimate and charged. Jake never pulled his hand away. Once the initial hesitation faded, his palm settled more firmly against the tight #0 stubble, fingers spreading to map every curve. He traced the smooth slope from the crown down to the sensitive hollow at the nape of her neck, then back up again, slow and deliberate, as if committing the shape to memory. The short bristles rasped softly under his skin; the warmth of her newly bare scalp seeped into his palm.

Kathy kept her eyes on the road, knuckles white on the wheel, but her body betrayed her with every stroke. Soft shivers ran down her spine each time his fingertips found the nape. The lingering heat between her thighs pulsed in time with the slow rub of his hand. She didn’t tell him to stop. She only breathed a little faster, the black choker rising and falling against her throat while her son explored the head that no longer belonged to the woman who had left the house that morning.

For Jake the sensation was intoxicating. The solid, living curve of a woman’s skull beneath nothing but a thin layer of stubble—the way it felt completely different from any hair he had ever touched—burned itself into him. Every pass of his hand over the nape, every subtle shift of her head under his palm, fed the new obsession that had ignited in the barbershop. He already knew he would never forget this: the first time he had held a freshly buzzed head in his hands, and the quiet certainty that he needed to feel it again… needed to be the one who made it happen.

By the time Kathy turned onto their street, Jake’s fingers were still moving slowly across her scalp, and the hunger that had awakened while he watched her get sheared had only grown sharper.

Kathy turned into the driveway and shifted the car into park. The engine’s low idle filled the sudden quiet. For a moment neither of them moved.

Jake’s hand lingered on her scalp one last time. His palm swept slowly from the crown down to the nape, a final, deliberate pet across the tight #0 stubble, as if sealing the memory of how her buzzed head felt under his fingers. Then he pulled away, unbuckled, and stepped out of the car without a word. The door closed behind him. She watched him walk up the front path and disappear into the house, leaving her alone with the silence and the cool air that still kissed every newly exposed inch of her skull.

Kathy stayed seated. One hand rose almost automatically and began rubbing slow circles over the short, velvet-rough surface. The sensation was still so foreign—no soft brown length to tuck behind an ear, no weight at the back of her neck, only the bare shape of her own head beneath her palm. Her reflection in the rearview mirror looked like a stranger: wide brown eyes, flushed cheeks, the black choker sitting stark against a completely naked neck.

Her mind raced toward the conversation waiting inside. Mark had sent her for Jake’s number two. He expected her to walk back through the door with the same neat bob she had left with. How was she supposed to explain the pile of hair left on the barbershop floor, the barber’s commanding voice, the way she had sat still and wet while the blades took everything? The thought of his face when he first saw her sent a fresh twist of anxiety through her stomach… and beneath it, the same shameful heat that had never fully left her thighs since the first pass of the open clippers.

She kept rubbing her buzzed head, fingers tracing the curve of her skull, while the clock in the dashboard ticked closer to the evening and the whispered appointment she already knew she would keep.

Kathy gave her buzzed scalp one last slow rub, palm sliding over the tight #0 stubble as if the familiar motion could somehow prepare her. She drew a deep breath, steeled herself, and stepped out of the car. The short walk up the front path felt longer than the entire drive home. Every soft breeze kissed the bare skin of her head and the exposed nape above the black choker, reminding her with every step that nothing of her old bob remained.

She pushed open the door and walked inside. The familiar sounds of home reached her first—the low hum of the refrigerator, the soft clink of a glass being set down. Mark was in the kitchen, back turned, still in the clothes he had worn for his unexpected work call.

“Hey, honey,” he called without looking, voice easy and warm. “How was it?”

Kathy stopped just inside the doorway, one hand still resting on the curve of her skull. Mark turned.

The easy expression on his face collapsed the instant his eyes found her. Shock wiped everything else away—eyes widening, mouth parting, the glass in his hand forgotten. For a long second he simply stared at the woman who had left that morning with a neat brown bob and had returned with nothing but a close, military-short buzz and a flushed, almost guilty face.

“What in the hell happened?”

The words came out sharp, stunned. Kathy stood frozen under his stare, the cool air of the house still teasing every inch of her newly bare scalp, the memory of the barber’s blades and her son’s exploring hand still vivid on her skin, while the thick, shameful heat between her thighs refused to fade even now.

Kathy’s voice came out soft, almost apologetic.

“He… the barber said I was next. So I got in the chair. And then he just… shaved me.”

Mark’s face darkened. The shock hardened into something sharper—anger, disbelief, the protective edge of a husband who had sent his wife out for a simple errand and gotten her back completely transformed. “He what? Kathy, that’s not—why the hell would you let him—”

“It’s fine,” she interrupted, still meek, one hand rising again to stroke the tight #0 stubble as if the motion itself could soothe them both. “I don’t hate it. It’ll grow back.”

The quiet admission hung in the kitchen air. Mark stared at her for another long moment, taking in the bare curve of her skull, the way the black choker sat against her exposed neck, the faint flush still coloring her cheeks. Some of the heat in his expression slowly eased. He set the glass down and stepped closer, eyes traveling over the unfamiliar shape of her head.

“…You don’t look bad,” he said at last, voice lower, reluctant but honest. “Are you sure you’re fine?”

Kathy nodded, fingers still tracing the short velvet of her scalp. The lingering ache between her thighs pulsed at the simple question, at the way his gaze lingered on what the barber had left behind, at the secret knowledge that 7:30 was still waiting and the stubble he was looking at would not be there for long.

Dinner was quiet and strangely charged. Kathy sat at the table with the cool air of the house constantly reminding her of every bare inch of her scalp. The tight #0 stubble caught the overhead light each time she moved; every time she reached for her glass or passed a dish her hand seemed to find its way back to the short velvet surface almost without thinking. Mark kept glancing at her—still adjusting, still half-angry, still clearly finding the new look more striking than he wanted to admit. Jake barely spoke. He ate quickly, eyes flicking to his mother’s bare head more often than to his plate, the memory of how that same scalp had felt under his palm still vivid.

The moment the last plate was cleared Jake pushed back his chair.

“Gonna do homework,” he muttered, already heading for the stairs. The door to his room shut firmly. The lock clicked. Alone, he dropped into his desk chair, pulled up his laptop, and typed the first search with unsteady fingers. Video after video of women being sheared filled the screen—long hair falling under clippers, reluctant faces turning into bare scalps, the same forced transformation he had just watched happen to his own mother. He leaned in, breath shallow, the new obsession tightening its grip with every clip.

Downstairs Kathy waited until Mark settled onto the couch with the remote. She stood, smoothed her top, and kept her voice casual.

“I need to run a quick errand. Won’t be long.”

Mark looked up, eyes lingering once more on the stark curve of her buzzed head, then simply nodded. Kathy grabbed her keys, stepped out into the evening air, and walked to the car. The short stubble still tingled under the soft breeze. She started the engine, pulled out of the driveway, and turned toward the old part of town—toward Tony’s Classic Cuts, the waiting chair, and the 7:30 appointment that would finish what the afternoon had only begun.
