Arushi sat in the salon chair, feeling her heartbeat thunder in her ears. Her waist-length, silky black hair cascaded down her back, glistening under the bright lights. But today, everything was about to change. Her boyfriend, Ronak, sat beside her, holding her hand, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
The barber stood behind her, draping a pristine white cape around her slender frame, fastening it snugly at the neck. Her long black locks pooled over the stark white fabric—a beautiful contrast. She swallowed hard. This was just a trim.
Or so she thought.
The First Cut – The Lie Begins
The barber combed through her silky strands, lifting a small section. “SNIP.” A soft sigh escaped her lips. That wasn’t so bad. Just a tiny trim.
But then—
“Bhaiya, thoda aur chhota kar do. Shoulder tak,” Ronak said casually. Arushi’s eyes snapped to his reflection in the mirror. “Ronak! You said just a trim!” she protested, a slight panic creeping into her voice. Ronak leaned in, pressing a reassuring kiss to her cheek. “Bas thoda aur manageable kar rahe hain, cutie. Tum mujhpe trust nahi karti?” Before she could argue, the barber smiled knowingly and gathered a thick section of her hair.
“SNIP! SNIP! SNIP!”
A massive chunk of her hair slid down her shoulders, landing heavily in her lap. Arushi’s breath hitched. Her gorgeous length was gone. Her heart pounded as the barber deliberately picked up the severed hair, held it up in front of her, then let it fall onto the cape.
“Dekho madam,” the barber chuckled. “Kitna halka mehsoos ho raha hoga na? Kitne chhote kat gaye aapke baal.”
Her fingers twitched beneath the cape. This was too much. But Ronak? He wasn’t done yet.
A Bob… Then Even Shorter?
Ronak ran his fingers through the newly shortened strands, evaluating the length. “Hmm… Long bob aur bhi accha lagega, hai na?” he mused, tilting his head. “Ronak, no. Please,” she whispered, her voice small, defeated. Ronak simply smiled, his thumb gently tracing her knuckles. “Bas ek baar dekh lo, baby.” The barber wasted no time.
SNIP! SNIP! SNIP!
Her chin-length bob took shape. She stared at herself in disbelief. Her beautiful, cascading waves had been reduced to a short, blunt cut. She barely recognized the girl in the mirror. And then, the barber tucked her ear back, exposing it.” Sir, agar aap chahein toh aur clean look de sakte hain,” the barber suggested. He paused and looked at Arushi’s sad little face in the mirror. He smirked and said “Ma’am ka face shape bohot sharp hai, aur chhote katva do baal sir aap, boycut krvake dekho, garmi bhi nahi lagegi bilkul.”
Ronak smirked. “Bilkul. Back aur sides aur chhote kar do.”
The Clippers Roar to Life
Arushi’s stomach twisted into knots. The barber picked up the clippers.“RONAK, NO!” she gasped, struggling against the cape. Ronak cupped her cheek, his touch both firm and affectionate. “Shh… Mera pyaara baccha. Trust me, tum isme aur bhi sundar lagogi baby.”
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The clippers roared to life. Arushi froze. Cold metal pressed against her nape.
Then—
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
A harsh vibration ran through her scalp as the clippers climbed up the back of her head. Her long black locks rained down in thick, merciless chunks. She gasped sharply, eyes burning with unshed tears as she felt her nape turn bare. The barber tilted her head forward. Ronak ran a possessive hand over the newly exposed skin, feeling the velvety softness. “Aww, cutie, yeh toh bohot smooth lag raha hai,” he teased, his fingers lingering. She bit her lip, trying to suppress a sob.
But the worst was yet to come.
The Barber’s Final Touch – No Escape
The barber tucked her ear back once more, revealing the last remnants of her feminine locks.
“BZZZZZZZZZZZ.”
She felt the vibrations directly on her temple as the clippers erased everything above her ear. Locks of her once-prized hair fluttered down onto the cape. The barber picked up a handful of her severed strands and dangled them in front of her. “Dekho madam, kitna accha lag raha hai. Kitne chote hogaye baal aapke, kitne lambe the.” he grinned, dropping them into her lap. Arushi’s throat tightened. She felt exposed, vulnerable. Ronak inspected her newly shorn sides, running his fingers over the freshly buzzed areas. “Bhaiya, jaldi grow na ho… ek #1 guard pe clipper chala do,” he said smoothly. Arushi whimpered.
Arushi sat still, feeling the cool air directly against her scalp for the first time in her life. Her long, cascading hair was gone. Her head felt so much lighter, so exposed. She barely recognized herself in the mirror—her once waist-length locks had been reduced to mere bristles. Her fingers trembled as they brushed over the freshly clipped surface.
Humiliation
Ronak, still grinning, pulled out his phone and snapped a picture. She whipped her head toward him, horrified.
“RONAK!”
He chuckled, tucking a strand of his own hair behind his ear. “Baby, ab toh mere baal tumse lambe hain!” he teased, running a playful hand over her newly shaved nape. She pouted, her cheeks flushed. He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Acha batao… itna halka mehsoos ho raha hai na?” he asked, ruffling her barely-there hair.
Arushi refused to answer, crossing her arms beneath the cape. The barber chuckled. “Madam, garmi me kitna maza aayega. Koi pasine ka tension nahi, koi chipp-chip nahi. Bas ek baar haath ghumaiye sir pe, feel toh kariye!” He then smirked and continued—“Less hair, less time… na comb ka jhanjhat, na oiling, na styling ka tension.” Ronak nodded in agreement. “Aur socho… na zyada shampoo lagega, na paani waste hoga. Pura paisa vasool haircut hai!” The barber laughed. “Bilkul sahi bola, sir! Maintenance bhi asaan, aur roz subah der tak so sakti hain madam.”
Arushi’s lips parted slightly. A breeze from the salon’s AC brushed against her newly exposed scalp. For the first time, she felt a tiny shiver… and it wasn’t just from the haircut. Ronak smirked, running his fingers over her buzzed nape.
Then, with a teasing glint in his eyes, he said— “Waise ab toh ekdum cute ladka lag rahi ho… bas ek school uniform ki kami hai!” The barber burst out laughing. Arushi’s face burned with embarrassment. She glared at Ronak, swatting at his arm. But he just grinned and casually told the barber—
“Bhaiya, ab Arushi isi look ko maintain karegi. Do hafte me wapas aayenge… dubara isi machine se upar se neeche tak ek jaisa chhota karna hai.” Arushi’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes widened.
“Kya?!” she sputtered, but Ronak was already walking toward the counter to pay. She stared at her own reflection, still struggling to process the drastic change. And now… in just a few weeks… it would happen again.
But then—he smirked.
“Next time… full buzz. Ya shave?”
Arushi’s stomach twisted.
This wasn’t over.
