Aurora had always been proud of her hair. Heavy, the color of a raven’s wing, it fell to her waist in a shiny wave, attracting admiring glances. Every morning, combing it with a silver comb, she felt how strength and confidence flowed into her. Her thick, dark eyebrows, like two graceful wings, perfectly framed large, expressive eyes the color of bitter chocolate.

But one terrible day her world collapsed.

It all started with a move to a new city. Aurora’s father, a military doctor, was offered a lucrative position at a hospital at a military base. The family was forced to comply. Aurora sadly left her familiar life, friends, and school. The new city greeted them with dampness, piercing wind, and gloomy faces.

The new school turned out to be a real test. The harsh order that reigned there was reminiscent of a barracks. The students, children of military men, wore uniforms and had buzz cuts. Aurora, with her luxurious hair and romantic outfit, immediately attracted attention. And this attention was far from friendly.

took an immediate dislike to her – a domineering and cruel girl. Lika was always surrounded by a retinue of hangers-on, ready to fulfill her every whim. They were the ones who nicknamed Aurora “the Witch”, and her beautiful hair became the subject of malicious ridicule.

The bullying grew with each passing day. Someone would tug her braid so hard that sparks would fly from her eyes, or throw earthworms into her bag, or declare a boycott, forbidding everyone to talk to her. Aurora tried to keep to herself, not reacting to provocations, but deep down she was gnawed by resentment.

One day, returning from school, Aurora fell into a trap. Lika and her retinue were waiting for her in a deserted alley. Without saying a word, they pounced on her like a pack of hungry wolves. Someone knocked her down, someone pinned her to the ground, someone held her hands. Aurora screamed, broke free, scratched, but the forces were unequal. Lika, smiling triumphantly, took a large hairdressing scissors out of her pocket.

“You’ll learn how to shake your tow,” she hissed, and the next moment Aurora’s thick, black strands fell to the ground.

Tears blurred her eyes, her heart was breaking from pain and humiliation. Lika, not content with what she had done, shaved off Aurora’s eyebrows, turning her face into a pale mask.

“Now you’re a real witch!” she laughed, admiring her work.

Left alone, Aurora sat for a long time on the cold ground, unable to move. It seemed to her that along with her hair she had lost a part of herself, her dignity, her beauty.

She returned home completely broken. Her parents were shocked to see their daughter in such a state. Her father, usually reserved and silent, was furious and wanted to go straight to the commandant, but his mother held him back. They understood that they could not cope with the commandant’s daughter in this city.

the next weeks without leaving her house. She looked at herself in the mirror and did not recognize herself. Her reflection seemed alien and hostile to her. She ate almost nothing, slept poorly, tormented by nightmares.

Her parents, seeing her condition, decided to transfer her to home schooling. They surrounded Aurora with care and love, trying to help her survive this trauma. Her father brought her books, magazines, and film discs. Her mother cooked her favorite dishes and told her funny stories from her youth.

Gradually, Aurora began to come to life. She realized that hair is not everything. That her strength is in herself, in her mind, in her kind heart, in her talents. She began to devote more time to studying, reading, drawing. She discovered in herself the gift of writing poetry, in which she poured out all her pain, resentment, but also hope for the best.

The hair grew back slowly but surely. And with it, Aurora’s confidence returned. She realized that what had happened had not broken her, but made her stronger. She learned to ignore appearance and see the main thing – the soul of a person.

A year later, they left this city, leaving all the bad things in the past. Aurora forgave her offenders because she understood that hatred and anger destroy only the one who experiences them.

She kept the kindness and the ability to love in her heart, no matter what. And her hair became her pride again – a reminder that even after the darkest night, there is a dawn.
