The night air in Bellwood hung thick with the acrid scent of ozone and shattered asphalt. The battle had been fierce, a chaotic clash of magic and alien heroics that had left the street looking like a warzone. A massive crater smoked in the center of the road, the epicenter of a devastating magical feedback loop.

“Hold on tight!” Ben Tennyson yelled, his voice echoing from the sleek, armored form of XLR8. In a blur of blue and black motion, the speedster scooped up his cousin, Gwen, and his best friend, Kevin, zooming them away from the epicenter of the blast just as the pink magical energy detonated with a deafening roar.

When the dust finally settled and the blinding light faded, the true casualty of the battle was revealed. Standing in the center of the ruined street, surrounded by swirling pink smoke and jagged chunks of pavement, was Hope—the dark sorceress known as Charmcaster.

“You will pay for laughing!” she shrieked into the empty night, her voice trembling with a mixture of absolute rage and profound embarrassment. She reached up, her trembling fingers brushing against a completely smooth, bare scalp. Her adventure with the UHT had cost her every single strand of her long, silver hair.

“My hair…” Hope whispered to herself, her glowing purple eyes wide with horror as she felt the cool night breeze against her bald head. “They think my humiliation is funny.” Her fists clenched at her sides, magical energy crackling around her knuckles. The physical defeat was nothing compared to the blow to her pride. She pictured Gwen’s perfect, flowing red hair, and a dark, twisted plan began to form in her mind. “I will hit them where it hurts the most.”

Three days later, deep within the twisted, mystical dimension of Ledgerdomain, Hope paced furiously before an ornate, jagged mirror. Her bare head reflected back at her, a constant, agonizing reminder of her defeat. She raised a hand, her fingers glowing with dark pink energy, and swiped it across the glass.

“Let us see what the little heroes are doing,” she murmured, a wicked smile creeping across her face.

The mirror’s surface rippled, the reflection of her stone sanctuary fading to reveal the bright, fluorescent lights of a shopping mall. The scrying spell locked onto her target: Gwen Tennyson and her friend, Julie Yamamoto, strolling casually past a row of stores.

Hope’s blood boiled as the magical audio kicked in. Gwen was running a hand through her thick, vibrant red locks, laughing. “I still can’t believe Hope lost all her hair,” Gwen said, a smile on her face. “It was so shiny!”

The casual mockery was the final straw. Hope slammed her hands against the stone frame of the mirror. “Enjoy it while it lasts, Gwen,” the bald sorceress hissed, her eyes flashing with dangerous intent.

Stepping back from the scrying glass, Hope began to weave a complex incantation. “A spell to pass unseen,” she commanded. Swirling ribbons of bright magenta magic erupted from her palms, wrapping around her body in a localized tornado of mystical energy. The magic wove a perfect illusion over her, masking her gothic attire and, most importantly, her bare scalp.

When the pink light faded, Hope looked into the mirror again. Staring back at her was a sophisticated, beautiful blonde woman wearing a sharp black business suit and stylish cat-eye glasses. She reached up, running her fingers through the thick, illusory blonde hair. “This disguise will easily fool them,” she thought to herself, her wicked grin practically predatory.

The Bellwood Mall was bustling with weekend shoppers. Inside a high-end cosmetics and beauty supply store, Gwen and Julie were browsing the aisles, surrounded by shelves stocked with colorful bottles and expensive treatments.

Gwen picked up a small, elegant jar, inspecting the label. “Serum d’Or,” she read aloud, holding it out to Julie.

“Serum d’Or,” Julie repeated, leaning in to look at the fancy packaging.

Before they could discuss the price, a sophisticated blonde woman in a black suit materialized beside them, holding a clipboard and flashing a brilliant, practiced smile.

“Hello ladies!” the disguised sorceress announced cheerfully. “You have been selected as our VIP shoppers today.”

Julie’s face lit up with immediate excitement. She clapped her hands together. “Really? What did we win?” she asked, completely falling for the ruse.

Hope gestured gracefully toward a large, ornate silver door at the back of the shop that seemed slightly out of place among the retail shelves. “A complimentary luxury hair spa day in our private back room,” she purred, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness.

Julie gasped, turning to her friend. “We should definitely do it, Gwen!” she urged, already walking toward the back room.

Gwen, usually the cautious one, looked at the blonde woman, then at the fancy jar in her hand, and shrugged. Who would pass up a free luxury spa treatment? “Lead the way,” she smiled.

“Step right through, please,” Hope instructed, holding the heavy silver door open. The doorway pulsed with a faint, almost imperceptible pink aura. Completely unaware of the trap, the two girls stepped across the threshold, expecting a world of relaxation and pampering.

The illusion shattered the second the door clicked shut behind them. The bright lights and pleasant smells of the mall vanished, replaced by the damp, oppressive chill of Ledgerdomain.

Gwen and Julie found themselves suddenly forced downward, their bodies magically slammed into two heavy, gothic stone thrones. Before either could react, glowing rings of solid pink magic snapped around their wrists, binding their arms securely to the armrests.

Gwen struggled against the magical cuffs, her heart hammering in her chest as she looked around the dark, stone-walled dungeon. “Hey! What is going on? I can’t move!” she cried out in panic.

Standing before them, the blonde mall representative began to glow with blinding pink light. The professional suit, the glasses, and the thick blonde hair melted away in a burst of magical energy, revealing the gothic purple armor and the stark, shiny bald head of their captor.

Hope stepped forward, a triumphant, terrifying smirk on her face. “Welcome to my salon, girls,” she said smoothly.

“Hope! Let us go!” Julie demanded, thrashing against her restraints.

Hope ignored the plea, raising her hands to begin the “treatment.” Four ornate, magical pitchers materialized from thin air, floating high above the girls’ heads. They tipped forward, pouring streams of warm, scented water directly onto Gwen and Julie’s pristine hair.

As the water soaked them, floating, disembodied hands made of pink energy appeared out of nowhere. The magical fingers dug into their scalps, aggressively massaging thick, frothy lather into their hair.

“Quiet,” Hope commanded, her voice echoing in the stone chamber. “I’ll pamper you guys one last time.”

The ghostly hands rinsed the soap away, leaving their locks heavy and wet. Then, a pair of magical hair dryers and round brushes materialized, hovering around their heads. The enchanted tools worked with dizzying speed, blowing hot air and pulling the brushes through their hair until both girls had perfectly dried, silky, voluminous locks. It was the perfect canvas for a nightmare.

Hope approached Gwen’s chair, her eyes tracing the length of the heroine’s beautiful red hair. “Let us try some new looks before we get serious,” the bald sorceress mused, lifting a finger.

Instantly, Gwen’s hair defied gravity. The pink magic pulled and twisted her long red locks upward, stacking them into a towering, absurdly complex, curly updo that made her look like a ridiculous doll. Gwen glared up at it, her face burning with anger and humiliation.

Hope crossed her arms, shaking her smooth head in mock disappointment. “No, that is too childish. Let us just take it all.”

Gwen’s breath hitched. The blood drained from her face as the true gravity of the situation sank in. “What do you mean take it all??” she stammered, her voice cracking with sudden, genuine terror.

“Don’t you dare cut my hair!” Gwen yelled, pulling fiercely against the pink energy rings holding her wrists.

Hope merely smiled. With a flick of her wrist, a massive, ornate pair of gothic styling shears materialized in the air, glowing with an ominous magenta aura. The scissors floated right up to the side of Gwen’s face.

SNIP!

The sound was shockingly loud in the quiet dungeon. The heavy metal blades snapped shut, severing a massive, foot-long chunk of Gwen’s vibrant red hair. The severed lock slid down her shoulder and pooled into her lap. Gwen gasped, her green eyes wide with horror as she felt the sudden, terrifying lightness on the side of her head.

The enchanted shears didn’t hesitate. They moved behind Gwen’s head, opening wide.

SNIP! SNIP!

With brutal efficiency, the scissors hacked straight across the nape of her neck. The bulk of Gwen’s beautiful, flowing mane was severed in three massive chops. A mountain of red hair cascaded down her back, landing in a soft, tragic pile on the seat of the stone chair. In seconds, her pride and joy had been reduced to a harsh, blunt bob.

“Let us make it more manageable,” Hope taunted, watching Gwen’s devastated expression.

The shears became a blur of motion. FAST CHOP-CHOP! The blades flew around Gwen’s head, ruthlessly hacking into the remaining bob. Short, jagged clumps of red hair rained down, sticking to Gwen’s tears and covering her blue sweater. The scissors sheared away her bangs, chopped the sides up over her ears, and decimated the back. When they finally stopped, Gwen was left with a choppy, embarrassingly short pixie cut.

Gwen squeezed her eyes shut, tears leaking down her cheeks. “Is it over?” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Hope laughed, a cold, cruel sound. In the air above Gwen, the scissors vanished, replaced by a gleaming, silver straight razor.

“No! Please!” Gwen begged, thrashing wildly in her seat.

Hope ignored her. SHING! The razor descended, pressing flat against Gwen’s forehead and sliding backward in one long, agonizingly smooth stroke.

Gwen felt the cold steel scrape against her scalp, followed by the horrifying sensation of cool air hitting bare skin. The razor moved again and again, ruthlessly shaving the entire top of Gwen’s head completely bald. The vibrant red crop was scraped away, leaving a shiny, pale dome surrounded by a pathetic, jagged fringe of red hair on the sides and back. Hope had given her the ultimate humiliation: an old man’s horseshoe hairline.

Julie watched in absolute, paralyzed horror. She pulled violently against her glowing restraints, glaring at the bald villainess. “You are crazy, Hope!” she screamed.

Hope slowly turned her attention to the black-haired girl. The glowing pink shears rematerialized in the air, snapping their blades hungrily.

Julie’s defiance crumbled into panic. “No, please, not like Gwen!” she pleaded, shrinking back into the stone chair.

The scissors didn’t care. They darted forward. FAST CHOP-CHOP! SNIP! The blades ruthlessly attacked Julie’s sleek black bob, hacking away massive chunks until it was a jagged, uneven mess.

“Let us clean up those sides,” Hope declared.

The scissors vanished, and a pair of heavy, electric hair clippers bathed in pink light took their place. The clippers turned on with a loud, aggressive buzz. They drove straight into the hair above Julie’s right ear, pushing upward. Julie whimpered as she felt the vibrating metal teeth chew through her hair, shearing it down to a prickly, bare stubble. The clippers buzzed relentlessly around the sides and back of her head, leaving her with a harsh, high, and tight military fade.

“Now, let us bring the top down to size,” Hope sneered.

The shears returned for the finale. FAST CHOP-CHOP! SNIP! SNIP! They attacked the remaining hair on top of Julie’s head, chopping it down until it was nothing more than a short, messy, boyish crop.

Hope stepped back, admiring her handiwork as the magical tools vanished into thin air. Julie sat frozen, a tear rolling down her cheek, her feminine bob completely obliterated in favor of a harsh, masculine buzz. Beside her, Gwen was staring blankly at the floor, a few loose strands of hair clinging to her newly shaven, shiny bald spot.

“And there we have it,” Hope said, clapping her hands together in mock delight. “A manageable look, wouldn’t you say?”

Hope stepped between the two devastated heroines, leaning in close. “Much better,” she whispered, her own bald head gleaming.

She pulled a sleek black smartphone from her pocket, holding it up high. She flashed a wicked, victorious smile, ensuring the camera captured Gwen’s humiliating bald dome and Julie’s butchered fade perfectly in the frame. Click.

Hope tapped the screen a few times. “Message Sent to: Ben Tennyson,” she announced, her voice dripping with venomous satisfaction.

“Now for the grand finale,” Hope said. She raised her hand, her thumb and middle finger pressed together.

SNAP!

A blinding, explosive FLASH! of pink light filled the dungeon.

When the light cleared, the cold stone walls of Ledgerdomain were gone. The smell of cheap pizza and fried food hit Gwen and Julie’s noses, followed by the deafening roar of a weekend crowd.

They had been teleported directly into the center of the Bellwood Mall Food Court.

They were still sitting in the heavy, gothic stone thrones, placed right in the middle of the walkway between the food vendors. For a moment, the bustling crowd froze, staring in shock at the two girls sitting in giant stone chairs.

And then, the laughter started.

A group of teenage boys at a nearby table erupted into howling laughter, pointing directly at Gwen’s shiny, half-bald head and Julie’s butchered fade. Shoppers stopped in their tracks, whispering, giggling, and pulling out their own phones to take pictures of the bizarre, humiliating spectacle.

The pink magical energy rings around their wrists suddenly flickered and died. SFX: SHATTER-CRASH! The magical restraints broke apart into fading shards of light.

Gwen’s hands instantly flew up, clamping down over the top of her head in a desperate attempt to hide her bare, shining scalp. Her face burned with an intense, fiery blush. “Hide! We need to hide!” she shrieked, tears of sheer mortification springing to her eyes.

Julie jumped out of her chair, covering her ruined, ultra-short hair with her arms. The two girls sprinted away from the food court, desperate to escape the pointing fingers and cruel laughter of the mall patrons.

“Quick, Julie! Here!” Gwen yelled.

Ahead of them, sitting in the middle of the mall corridor, was a brightly colored kiosk. A large yellow sign above it read: CRAZY HATS & WIGS.

Gwen didn’t even stop to look at the options. She lunged at the display, grabbing the biggest, most obnoxious item she could find—a massive, neon-green, curly clown afro wig. She slammed it down onto her head, desperately covering her bald spot. “This… will… have… to… do!” she panted, her chest heaving with panic and humiliation.

Beside her, Julie grabbed a wide-brimmed, obnoxious yellow cowboy hat, pulling it down hard over her ears to hide the severe buzz cut on the sides of her head. “It’s hidden… I hope,” she whimpered, adjusting the brim anxiously.

“Gwen! Julie!”

The girls froze. Sprinting toward the kiosk were Ben and Kevin. Ben was holding his smartphone out in front of him, his eyes wide with shock. He had clearly just seen the photo Hope had sent.

They skidded to a halt in front of the kiosk. Kevin’s jaw dropped as he took in the sight of his girlfriend wearing a giant neon green clown afro, and Julie hiding under a massive yellow cowboy hat.

“We got the picture, are you okay?” Ben asked, completely out of breath, looking between the two girls and their ridiculous headgear.

Gwen stood there, her fists clenched at her sides. Her face was flushed bright red beneath the hideous green curls of the clown wig. The absolute, crushing weight of the humiliation—the loss of her hair, the public display, and now being seen by Kevin and Ben—was too much to bear. She glared at them with a look of pure, murderous rage.

“Not.” Gwen growled, her voice trembling with fury.

“One.”

“Word.”
