Actually, this is my first story. Unlike other stories, this one is not a work of AI. It’s an experience of myself explaining my haircut. I hope you like this story, and I will continue posting good stories ahead. Thanks for reading!

I was around 5 or 6 years old. I was in a typical convent school, and it was sometime around the mid-2000s. The mushroom cut was a fashion at that time.
Since my childhood, I had a bowl cut, or as we typically call it, a mushroom cut in our language. You might think, “How bad my haircut choice is! Mushroom cuts are like a childhood trauma that all boys or even girls would have experienced in their younger days.” But call it an obsession or madness—I love mushroom cuts. This is one of my experiences regarding my haircut. Hope you would relate with it…

I’ve always been an energetic and curious person, full of life and excitement. My childhood was a mix of laughter, school adventures, and little rituals that made every day special. One of those rituals was my monthly trip to the barber with my dad, a tradition that revolved around keeping my signature mushroom cut in perfect shape.

For as long as I can remember, the mushroom cut was my defining look. My parents adored it. Whenever I got my bowlcut trimmed and I went home, my mother liked it and playfully ran her hand over my bouncy crown, briefly touching the freshly trimmed undercut. My Mother would often say, “This haircut makes you look smart and cute at the same time,” and I’d grin, too young to argue. Over time, I grew to love it. At school, most of my friends had similar hairstyles, so I felt like I belonged. Our fluffy crowns bouncing as we raced across the playground.

Every month, without fail, on Sunday afternoon, my dad would say, “Time for your haircut, Son” That was my cue to get ready for our outing. We’d stroll to the barbershop, a small but cozy place with a bright red-and-white shop banner hung outside stated (“The Goodlooks”). The shop had its own charm, with faded posters of hairstyles pinned to the walls and the faint scent of aftershave lingering in the air.

When we walked in, there was usually a short wait. The barber, Mr. Ramesh, would greet us warmly. “Ah, Rahul and Mr. Sharma! Ready for the usual?” he’d say with a smile. My dad would nod and describe the haircut, even though it was always the same: “Short and neat on the sides and back, but keep it fluffy and long on top.”

I’d climb into the barber’s chair, my feet dangling slightly above the ground. Mr. Ramesh would tie a striped cape snugly around my neck, and I’d feel a mix of excitement and anticipation. He’d start by spraying my hair with water, misting it until it was damp and shiny. Then he’d comb it through, smoothing it out and preparing it for the cut.

The first snip always began at the front. The scissors would glide just above my eyebrows, creating a neat line of bangs that framed my face(As Mushroom Cuts are incomplete without the bangs), The cool metal of the scissors brushing against my skin always made me giggle a little. Mr. Ramesh would continue, carefully following the curve of my head. The snipping sound was rhythmic and soothing, and I’d watch in fascination as my reflection in the mirror transformed from a slightly overgrown mop to a precise, rounded shape.

But my favorite part was still to come. I was not big enough to understand what thing barber was holding in his hand .
the barber use to plug that thing into the electrical socket and used to attach a guard and turn them on .
the shop use to fill with the constant pleasent hum of the Device
It was Clippers , their low, steady hum filling the room. The sound was almost hypnotic, and as the clippers touched the nape of my neck, a delightful shiver would run down my spine. The ticklish sensation made me squirm slightly, but I secretly loved it. The clippers moved methodically,Closely trimming the sides and back to perfection , leaving the top fluffy and untouched. the top hair would naturally Fall on the undercut..

Once the clippers had done their job, Mr. Ramesh switched to a straight razor for the finishing touches. With practiced precision, he cleaned up the edges around my nape and ears. The blade glided smoothly against my skin, cool and refreshing, a final flourish to the experience.

After that, he’d blow-dry the top, letting my hair puff up and settle into its characteristic bounce. I loved this part too – the way the warm air tickled my scalp and how my hair swished in the mirror. Once the cape came off, I’d run my hand over the freshly trimmed sides and nape, marveling at how smooth and short they felt.
Mr. Ramesh would , show me a small mirror to check the back. I’d grin and nod my approval. Then I’d hop down from the chair and playfully swish my hair one last time, watching it fall perfectly into place.

This routine was a comforting constant in my childhood. Even as I grew older and my friends started experimenting with different hairstyles, I stuck with my mushroom cut. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I finally decided to switch to a more conventional men’s hairstyle. As even in School the teachers used to scold and punish the Students with Fancy Hairdo’s. I dont think Mushroom cut as a fancy style but it is a bold one.
But deep down, the mushroom cut stayed close to my heart, a symbol of carefree days .
My hairstyle looked something like this !

Now that I’m an adult, I often look back on those Sundays with fondness. The barbershop, the hum of the clippers, the ticklish sensation at my nape – they’re all vivid memories that make me smile. And though my hairstyle has changed, the boy with the mushroom cut lives on in my heart, smiling back at me from the mirror of my memories.
Hope you enjoyed it
