I had just moved from a large metro area to mid-size neighborhood and was online looking for barbershops as I loved my chosen occupation. It is not often you can enjoy talking with a diverse range of people in a very low stress environment and make a good living nowadays and I was anxious to get going. After two days of unloading all my belongings and trying to cram them into any crevice available I had address of several barbershops in the area and planned to drop by and speak with the managers for any opening or shops that were looking for someone. I got very lucky and on the third shop the manager said a friend of his needed another barber and he would call ahead and tell her I would be coming bye. As I neared the address for the shop, I noticed a large number of young people walking in the area and spotted a number of cafes and coffee shops quite busy.  After finding the barbershop and parking I saw an attractive woman sitting in one of barber’s chairs and introduced myself and explained I had just moved to town was seeking a job. She said her friend had called ahead, and we talked for quite a while before a customer walked in and I handed her a slip of paper will all the necessary information, she would need on it to check my background.

She called the next day and asked if I could start right away and give me all the particulars pertaining to the job offer.  On the first day as we were talking, she mentioned that a lot of women are regulars of the shop as the University is just a few blocks away and many of the students live close by to eliminate the need for a car and that explained me seeing so many coffeeshops and cafes in the area. I told Sheree the owner that I loved doing short haircuts on women, but my passion was long hair braiding and avant garde styles which surprised her a little. After showing me everything, I would need for work the first customer walked in and Sheree said hi and told her to have a seat in my chair introducing me to her and saying they have been friends for years, Ruth. It turns out she is a professor at the school I asked her what she was having done today to which she replied, “just a two-inch trim please” and I caped her and started combing her beautiful thick hair with a wide tooth comb. I trimmed the two inches and combed her hair to carefully check the cut all around and just kept combing from her forehead all the way to the ends over and over allowing the left had to follow the comb on each stroke and her breathing was increasing with the combing and smoothing of her incredible hair.

Sheree was sitting and watching from the next chair with huge smile on her face shotting a quick jab of ” Are you trying to steal a customer buddy? ” Followed by a long laugh. I also let out a laugh commenting that I was swept away in the moment as we all chuckled a little. I asked Ruth if she would allow me to braid her hair and she said would love to see that. I grabbed my little equipment bag from behind the chair and set it on the countertop and pulled out a vintage German dryer-heat gun before directing Ruth to put her chin as far forward as she could. I grabbed Ruth hair from the nape of the neck and pulled it forward over her face and a great deal falling into her lap. Grabbing my wide tooth comb I slowly combed her nape up over the top and down all way to the lap having to hold about a foot up from the lap to pass the comb thru. Sheree was looking at me with a funny look trying to figure out what on earth I had planned, and I reached into the bag took out a good-sized red jar and removed the lid scooping a silver dollar size portion. I massaged my hands together warming and spreading the cream over both hands and starting at the nape coated Ruths beautiful hair with a light coating of the white cream all the way down to her lap. The next step was to comb it into her hair, and the comb glided thru like brushing thru water as I combed for a couple of minutes until it shined like silk under the neon lights. I pulled all the hair back and over the neck rest of the chair as it hung over two feet past it and started combing from the forehead to the ends a few times and tilted the chair back to let the hair fall freely and scooped an ever bigger dollop of cream from the jar and from the forehead slowly smoothed it onto her hair. I took my comb and slowly combed from the forehead back over the chair to the ends until all her hair was shining on its own and sat her back up and started braiding her incredible into a very tight braid that ended near the waist.  Now for the heat I adjusted the dryer for med-hot and starting on the top applied heat to her hair all the way to the bottom of the braid and even held the braid over her head and got the nape on up.

The braid was omitting her own light at this point and I ran my hands up and down the braid and over the top for a good five minutes and Ruth said she wanted to feel it also could not stop herself from running her hands up and down this incredible hair and I just sat down and let her enjoy and not until another customer arrived did, she pause or wavier with her efforts. I told ruth to just come back in a few weeks or any problems just call. Later on, Sheree as me what the white cream was and I told her it was the red label professional strength and I have a whole case at home.  The referrals from the University started pouring in and business was overflowing.
