Second Chance
Dana and Dina were thrilled to have the chance of a lifetime. The sisters were selected to appear on a television game show called “Second Chance”
In it, two contestants are challenged to answer 10 questions correctly. If the contestants answer a question incorrectly, they get a second chance and must agree to do a dare to continue on, or else they loose. If they complete the dare, they move on until they either answer the remaining questions correctly, or miss another question, in which case they are eliminated. The team that completes all 10 questions wins the $100,000 prize.
When the sisters first learned they were selected to be on the show, they began studying for hours. They each studied a different subject, so they could learn as much as they could in a short period of time.
On the day the show, the sisters arrived at the television station in matching grey and white dresses, which contrasted nicely with their breast length brunette hair. The producer and host greeted them and gave them direction as to how the show would work.
The girls had no questions, as they’d see the show many times. They knew the dare always involved an evil spinning wheel, with 6 different options of dares. The wheel changed from week to week with options from tame to extreme.
A short time later, the game began with the host introducing the girls to the studio audience. As the game began, the first three questions were easy for the girls. But as the game wore on, the questions got harder. After answering question seven correctly, the girls began to believe they had a good chance at winning the game without having to endure a second chance dare.
But when question eight came, it was extremely difficult. The girls struggled to come up with the right answer, but unfortunately, the host informed them that they had answered incorrectly.
The host then called to the stagehand to “Bring out the wheel!” The stagehand then rolled out a covered wheel as the host explained to the girls and the audience that they now had a second chance, if they accepted to spin the wheel and accept the option. Without hesitation, the girls agreed. They had discussed beforehand that they would do the dare if they got past question seven.
The host then pulled back the sheet and revealed it was the haircut wheel. The haircut wheel had 6 possible landing spots.
Box bob
Bowl cut
Boyish pixie
Mohawk
Chelsea cut
Monk cut
The sisters looked at the wheel. They were happy that the dare didn’t involve eating grotesque foods and were happy to see there was at least one option that wasn’t too bad. They hadn’t planned on getting a haircut, but at least, if they won the money, they could afford a good wig.
The host explained they had to choose who was going first. That person would get their hair cut while the other watched. Then it was the other’s turn. Both girls had to spin or loose the game.
Dana went first. She spun the wheel and silently prayed that it would stop on a bob. However she had no idea the producers rigged the wheel to stop where they wanted around it went, eventually stopping on a Chelsea cut.
The audience started cheering as Dana was escorted to a waiting barber chair. Dina watched in horror as took a large pair of shears and sawed off the length of her sister’s hair. The barber then made quick work of Dana’s hair, running his clippers up the back of her head, leaving a line of wispy hair at the bottom. Then attacked the sides, leaving long sideburns behind. He sectioned off her bangs, and then buzzed off the top of her head. Dana looked down at the mountain of hair in her lap when the clippers were turned off. She thought she was finished, but then the barber combed her bangs in front of her face, the clipped them off mid forehead. With time winding down, he ripped her cape off and yelled “NEXT!”
Dina looked at her sister’s horrific haircut. Now more than before she started hoping for a bob style. She spun the wheel with high hopes, only to have them shattered when the producers rigged the wheel to land on a monk cut.
Her heart sank as she was escorted to the chair. Seated and caped, she kept thinking of $100,000 as the barber sawed off her hair while the audience cheered. The clippers mowed up the sides and back of her head to her temples, then ran around the top in a circle, forming a monks ring around her head.
With only a few minutes left in the game, the newly shorn sisters joined the host, who tried his best to contain his laughter from seeing the girl’s haircuts.
He then gave them a second chance to answer question seven correctly. The girls focused on the game, and answered questions seven and eight correctly. Question nine came and it seemed so simple. The girls figured it was because they studied so hard. But it was a trick question. As such, they answered incorrectly.
Having used their second chance, they were informed that they’d lost and were escorted off the stage.
They went home dejected. Not only did they not win the $100,000, but they also had the worst haircuts of their lives.
