“And…posted.”

I quickly re-read my Craigslist ad wondering if it would spark any interest.

Female seeking long-haired male between the ages of 24 and 30 willing to let me cut their hair. Must have hair shoulder length or longer and must be willing to participate in a precursory interview. Payment $400.

I logged off the computer and crossed my fingers. I wasn’t really expecting much but I desperately wanted to live out my fantasy at least once. It was worth spending $400 to do so, well, only if I got some takers. I had dated many guys in the past, but I had only let one know of my fantasy and it didn’t go over well. He was unfortunately very attached to his hair. I went to the living room and queued up Netflix. I scrolled through some movies and decided to start Full Metal Jacket. The intro scene is what my fantasy dreams are made of. My phone pinged with an e-mail.

That was quick. I pulled it up.

Hey, I’m Dallas. I saw your ad and I’m…intrigued.

I quickly e-mailed him back.

Hey Dallas, I’m Kayla. Are you interested in an interview? My heart was racing. I tried to imagine what Dallas looked like. Blonde? Brunette? Curly hair? Green eyes?

When and where?

Reggies on Broad St. Are you available at 7pm tonight? I typed.

I could make that work.

See you then! I replied. I’ll be in a maroon dress and I have red hair.

My phone pinged with his response.

I assume you’ll find me by my long hair. Ha!

This was all happening so fast. I hoped he would be up to par with my vision. It was 5:30pm. I had an hour and a half to kill. I did a quick clean up of my apartment and did my hair and make-up. I wanted to look cute and approachable. The clock finally read 6:45. Time to roll. I practically ran down the apartment stairs to my car. I tried not to speed to the coffee shop. When I got there I quickly scanned the room. There sat Dallas, or what I assumed to be Dallas. He had long, thick, curly brunette hair flowing half way down his back and a well-kept beard. He was actually really handsome. I walked over and he smiled at me.

“You must be Dallas,” I said.

“Guilty as charged.” He slid out of the booth and shook my hand. I took it. His hand was strong and he was noticeably tall.

“I’m Kayla.”

We both sat back down.

“Nice to meet you, Dallas. Are you from around here?” I asked.

“Not originally, but I’ve lived in Portland for about eleven years, since I was eighteen.”

“What do you do for a living?”

“I’m an elementary school teacher.”

“Really? I wouldn’t have pictured that.”

“Yeah. I teach both art and music.”

“Oh my gosh, I bet the kids are adorable.”

“Yeah, they’re extra adorable.”

“Are you married?” I asked, genuinely intrigued.

“Haven’t found the right person yet. I had a girlfriend for about three years and we broke it off a few months ago.”

“I’m sorry,” I said. “I feel your pain. My boyfriend broke up with me a little over a year ago…but enough about me, let’s get to the point. What intrigued you about my Craigslist post?”

“I’ve never seen an ad for somebody to get paid to get their haircut before.”

“Ah, yes,” I blushed. Shit.“Well, I um, hm…” I started to flounder.

“Tell me how this plays out for you…” he asked with a smirk.

“Are you willing to cut your hair short?” I asked as I squirmed in my seat.

“How short are we talking?”

“At least a buzz cut.”

“Oh, shit. That’s a bit shocking.”

“I know it’s weird to want to pay someone to cut their hair. It’s, well, it’s a bit of a kink, but I’m sure you probably figured that part out already.”

“I thought about it. This isn’t a sexual exchange?” Dallas asked.

“No. No. Nothing like that.”

Dallas twirled a piece of hair around his finger.

“I guess I could be persuaded, and I wouldn’t even need money, under one condition.”

“And what’s that?” I asked, fully expecting to be asked to wear something sexy.

“I get to cut your hair…and take you out on a date.”

“What?” I asked shocked.

“I might have a kink myself…”

“I was…not expecting that.”

“We could make both of our dreams a reality,” he said.

“You’re into hair, too? You’ve got to be kidding me.” I said as I lowered my voice.

“Since I was a kid. My childhood babysitter showed up with a Twiggy-esque pixie cut after having hair to her butt and I was hooked. When did yours start?”

“I found a video of a guy shaving his head in the early YouTube world. It struck a chord. It was super hot. I couldn’t look away. I wanted to feel his bare head, ya know?”

“Oh, I definitely know. Short hair feels incredibly sexy,” Dallas said with a cheeky grin.

“I’m going to have to think about it,” I said as I fingered my long red hair. It fell right above my breasts and I hadn’t dared go shorter, “Were you thinking a pixie?” I asked with curiosity.

“We could have matching haircuts, that’d be pretty hot,” he said, looking deeply into my eyes.

“A…a buzzcut?” I replied incredulously, “Yeah, um, I don’t think so…I guess this won’t work out. Um, it was nice meeting you though.” I grabbed my purse and slid out of the booth. I quickly walked toward the coffee shop door leaving Dallas sitting there by himself. I glanced back at him and he gave me a little shrug.

“At least think about it!” he yelled after me.

I got in my car and started hyperventilating. How is this even possible? How the heck did I find a person with a hair kink, but who likes women with super short hair? I looked at myself in the rearview mirror. Dallas looked so gorgeous and he was willing to part with his mane. Am I willing to part with mine? I pulled my hair back tight away from my face. My heart was racing. I couldn’t stop thinking about his hair littering the ground, the tantalizing feel of his shorn head. And he felt the same way about me. Damn. I opened the car door and marched back into the shop.

Dallas looked up and smiled at me.

“Back so soon?” he asked.

“Fine, I’ll do it.”

“Really?” Dallas asked a look of skepticism on his face.

“I…I…I’ll even go first.” I managed to get out.

“Your place or mine?” Dallas said pulling his hair back into a bun.

“Now?” I asked, panic ensuing.

“I think we should, before we change our minds. You’ve got a pair of clippers, I assume?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll follow you.”

I robotically walked toward the door. I stopped before I opened it.

“Don’t worry, Kayla. You’re going to look great.”

I turned around and looked into his blue eyes.

“Yes?” he asked.

“You’re a complete and total stranger,” I said.

“A complete and total stranger who’s going to let you buzz their head.”

“Aw, fuck it,” I said as I pushed the door open and shook out my hair. This is the last time I was going to do that for awhile.

Dallas followed me and we drove back to my place. I was thankful I had given the place a quick clean.

“Come in!” I said too loudly as I let him into my home.

“Are you as nervous as I am?” he asked. I didn’t answer; I could barely swallow let alone talk. I pulled a kitchen stool into my bathroom. Dallas followed. I pulled out the clippers from the drawer, unwound them, and plugged them in.

“Scissors?” Dallas asked his eyes looking at my hair, my face, and my breasts. He was like a kid in a candy shop. I pulled a pair from the drawer.

“Be gentle,” I said quietly.

“I’ll take good care of you.” He patted the seat. “Ladies, first.” I took a deep breath and sat. Looking at myself in the mirror.

“You look beautiful,” he said as he draped my cape over me.

“This was a lot more exciting when it was just you getting your haircut.” I said reluctantly.

“You’re going to look amazing. You remind me of this girl,” he said pulling up a picture on his phone. It was a girl with similarly red hair, large glasses, and a super short buzz cut.

“She’s really pretty.”

“And you’re going to look ravishing yourself. Are you ready?” The joy on Dallas’ face was intoxicating.

“Yeah. Just do it.” I closed my eyes as Dallas gathered my hair at the nape. I took a deep breath and heard the crunch crunch crunch as the scissors ate through my hair. I let out a squeal as my hair fell around my jaw.

“What am I doing?!” I shrieked.

“You’re doing awesome! You look awesome!”

“You’re going to be in this chair next, you know, and I’m going to have NO mercy!” I yelled.

Dallas laughed and blushed.

“I’ll let you have your way with me.”

I looked at this foreign person in the mirror, who was about to become even more foreign.

Dallas put a number one guard on the clippers and hit the power button as they turned on with a whir.

“Have you done this before?” I asked, my voice telling my nerves.

“My ex-girlfriend let me give her an undercut, which was fun, but this is a special treat.”

I wanted to close my eyes, but I couldn’t look away.

Dallas placed the clippers at my hairline and pushed them through. A swath of hair fell onto the cape. No turning back. I felt the hair or lack thereof left behind.

“Wow,” was all I could muster.

Dallas continued to mow his way through my hair each stroke bringing him more and more glee. I could see his hard on and knew I’d be feeling the same way in a few minutes.

My green eyes glistened, all of my face felt bigger, but it didn’t look bad.

“I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but you look extremely sexy,” Dallas said with his cheeky grin.

I blushed with pleasure.

“Thanks. I actually think it looks pretty good. And now it’s your turn.”

Dallas gave my head a rub.

“A deal’s a deal.”

He brushed my hair off the stool and sat down. Finally.

“One second,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”

I went to my room and took off my clothes, brushed off the little hairs stuck to me and put on my sexiest black lingerie. I looked at myself in my bedroom mirror. I did look sexy. The buzz cut brought out all the right features. Dallas had a good eye. It still felt weird, but I was strangely okay with it. Now it was his turn.

“Holy shit,” he said as I returned to the bathroom, “Damn, Kayla.”

“So Dallas, how do you feel about shaving your head?” I asked as I pulled out his bun, grabbed a brush, and began running it through his hair.”

“I’d nearly do anything right now.”

I placed the cape over him. He looked a lot more nervous and vulnerable than he did before. I was glad I let him cut my hair first. I picked up a strand of his hair. He gulped.

“No mercy,” I said as I snipped it off at the scalp.

His mouth dropped open.

“You didn’t even ask if I was ready!”

“Oops,” I said as I dropped the remnant onto the cape and picked up another snipping it off the same way. I set down the scissors and grabbed the clippers pulling off the number one guard. Their loud buzz filled the small room once again. Dallas instinctively closed his eyes and took a deep breath. I placed them in the middle of his forehead and slowly slid them back letting the large clump of hair fall to the floor. I could barely stand it as I rubbed my hand over the shorn section. Dallas reached up to feel it, too.

“I haven’t had hair this short since grade 3!”

“You’re looking fantastic,” I slid the clippers back again and again taking off every last strand. I looked at the ground. The amount of red and brown hair on the floor was astounding.

I decided to give Dallas a head massage. He let out a little moan and opened his eyes.

He turned to me.

“Kayla, is it okay if I kiss you?”

I nodded my head yes.

I sat on his lap as he delicately kissed my lips. I could feel the heat between my thighs. He kissed me some more.

“Just so you know, I don’t sleep with girls on the first date…but I will kiss you to kingdom come.”

Our hands went to each other’s heads, “Don’t get too greedy, you’re not done yet.”

I pulled out the shaving cream and put some in my hand. I lathered up Dallas’ head and grabbed my safety razor. I slowly and meticulously scraped away at the stubble until there was none.

I touched Dallas’ soft and smooth scalp.

“You look so good. Your head shape is awesome!”

I wiped the leftover shaving cream from his head.

“I could say the same about yours!” He replied enthusiastically.

We decided to kiss some more.

“So about that date?” he asked. “Can I take you out and show you off tomorrow?”

“I’d like that,” I said, touching his head again, “I can’t keep my hands off of you.”

After a few hours more of more kissing, chatting, and clean up we decided to call it a night.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I said closing the door behind him. I leaned up against the door and slid down in a daze.

“Did that really just happen?” I asked myself aloud. My hands instinctively went to my shorn hair.

Yes, that really happened.
