The air was stale in the gym this evening with the typical body funk and grunts. Despite the smell, I always enjoyed my hour on the elliptical after work; It was less about physical fitness and more about my mental health. Although it tended to zone out to the docile beats from my earbuds, I was pulled out of my social isolation by a gentle tap on my arm. I turned around and was met by a woman with striking blue eyes and a completely bald head.
“Is this yours?” She asked holding a purple scrunchy in her hand. “It was back behind your machine, but I wanted to ask before I brought it up to the front counter.”
“It is, actually. Thank you!” I said with a smile, trying desperately to not stare at her perfectly bald head. “It must have slipped off during my workout.”
“You’re welcome.” She replied as she handed me the scrunchy. “I absolutely love your red hair.”
“Thank you!” I said again. “I love your…”
I froze, not knowing how to complete the sentence that began pouring out of my mouth.
“Head, scalp, hairlessness, baldness, chrome dome?” She said with a chuckle. “I’m Melanie by the way.”
“I’m Holly.” I replied with a smile. “Sorry, I don’t think I’ve ever met a bald girl before.”
“No sweat.” She said as she mounted the elliptical in front of me. “Neither had I before I took the plunge.”
I quickly pulled my shoulder-length red hair into a tight ponytail and got back to my workout. As I pumped my legs, I found myself staring at the back of Melanie’s head. The overhead lights shone on her perfectly smooth head and my mind was racing with questions. Was she truly bald by choice or did something happen that forced her hand? How did she get it so smooth? What would I look like bald? What would my husband and kids say? Does she ever wear a wig? Before long, my alarm went off, snapping me out of my thoughts. I stepped off my machine and began making my way to the locker room to grab my things.
After getting dressed, I threw my gym clothes into my bag, still lost in my own thoughts.
“It was nice meeting you.” I heard from behind me.
I turned to see Melanie at her locker.
“Nice meeting you too.” I replied with a smile. “Do you come here often?”
“Now and then when I can get out of the office at a decent time.” She said as she pulled a Guns and Roses t-shirt over her head. “What about you?”
“I try to come every night.” I replied, still catching glimpses of her head. “So maybe we’ll meet up again.”
“I’d like that.” She said as she grabbed her bag. “You also don’t have to pretend like you’re not staring at my head.”
“I have so many questions.” I blurted out.
“How about we grab some coffee?” She smiled back. “There’s a really good place down the street that makes the best latte.”
With that, we made our way out of the gym and into the crisp air. She mentioned that she and her husband had moved to the city a few years ago and that they were still discovering little nooks and crannies from time to time. Working in real-estate development she doesn’t get much time away, so she tries to maximize the time she does have. After a short walk, we entered into a quaint little cafe and found a table in the corner, surrounded by local art.
“This is cute.” I said as I admired the photos and paintings covering the wall.
“I love it here.” Melanie said as she unzipped her jacket. “It reminds me of a place we had back where we used to live.
Without warning, a barista came and brought two drinks to the table.
“I’m sorry, but we didn’t order anything yet.” I said with a confused look on my face.
“It’s my usual. Thanks, Mark!” She replied as the barista walked away. “I usually have a client with me, so he always brings two.”
“You’re extremely efficient, Melanie.” I said taking a sip of my drink. “You’re probably the most confident woman I ever met.”
“I wasn’t always this way, but life is short and you have to live in the moment.” She said as she ran her hands over her scalp. “It’s one reason why I got rid of all of my hair.”
“You look stunning by the way.” I replied. “I can’t even imagine you with hair.”
“Want to see?” She asked as she took her phone out and pulled up a photo of her in a business suit with dark brown pulled into a bun.
“I think you look better bald.” I caught myself saying as I looked at the photo.
“Thank you.” Said said as she put her phone onto the table. “Who knows? Maybe you would look better bald too.”
“Are my thoughts that obvious?” I chuckled.
“Just a little.” She replied with a smile. “Would you like to touch it?”
I simply nodded as I reached across the table and ran my hand over her slick scalp.
“How did you get it so smooth?” I asked as I continued to caress her head. “It looks and feels so perfect.”
“With this.” Melanie said as she rummaged through her gym bag before pulling out a black baseball cap.
“A baseball cap made you bald?” I asked as she handed me the hat.
“It’s a special hat that emits light at the correct wavelength to completely destroy hair follicles.” She said as she flipped a switch on the hat, causing a dull, red light to shine around the inside of the hat. “I saw it advertised to balding men who wished to accelerate the process and avoid the awkward balding phase.”
“Wow.” I said as I turned the hat over in my hand. “It feels warm.”
“It feels absolutely heavenly when you have it on your scalp.” She said as I remained transfixed on the hat in my hand. “You can put it on if you’d like to see what it feels like.”
“But…” I started to say.
“Don’t worry.” She reassured me. “You’d have to wear it for extended periods over several days to become bald and beautiful.”
With that, I slowly pulled the hat over my head and let the warmth wash over my scalp. Melanie was right. The sensation was heavenly.
“I feel like a cat basking in the sun.” I said with a smile.
“I know.” Melanie said as she drank her coffee. “I still wear it at my desk from time to time just for the sensation.”
After a few minutes, I took the hat off and placed it onto the table. I could feel a slight prickly sensation all over my scalp. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but I could clearly tell a difference after wearing the hat.
“It’s a little tender.” I said as I ran my fingers through my hair and rubbed my scalp gently. “Not a bad feeling. Just interesting.”
“Mine did too up until everything fell out.” She replied. “The longer you wear it, the more intense the sensation. Eventually, the hair follicles give up the ghost and stop producing any hair.”
“How long did it take?” I asked
“After about a week of continuous use.” She said with a smile. “You can borrow it if you’d like.”
“I don’t know.” I said biting my lip. “What if I don’t like it?”
“Wigs are all the rage right now.” She said as she tucked the hat into my purse. “Just buy one that matches your current style.”
“I’ll have to think about it.” I said looking at the hat inside of my bag. “Bald is kind of a big decision.”
“Agreed.” Melanie said as she drained her coffee and paid our tab. “But with the way you’ve been staring at me, I believe you’ve already caught the baldness bug.”
With that, she said our goodbyes, exchanged numbers, and made our way to our cars. After I buckled up, I reached into my bag and pulled the hat out. I flipped the switch on and placed it over my head to let the warmth wash over my scalp again. I wasn’t committed to baldness just yet, but I wanted to feel the sensation again on my drive home. I felt so relaxed as I made my way down the road. I could feel a gentle pulsing of the hat as it tried to destroy my hair follicles. By the time I got home, I had completely forgotten I was even wearing the hat.
“Good time at the gym, hun?” I heard Matt call out as I walked in from the garage.
“Just what I needed after a long day.” I said, kissing him on the cheek.
“New hat?” He asked, calling attention to Melanie’s gift.
“Oh yeah! I forgot I was wearing it.” I replied, not wanting to tell Matt about my chance encounter with Melanie, I quickly came up with an excuse. “It helps keep the hair off of my face.”
“It looks good on you.” Matt said with a smile as I made my way to the bathroom to take a shower.
I took off the hat, not realizing that I had worn it for over thirty minutes, and was met with the same prickling feel as before. I disrobed and hopped into the shower to wash off my gym funk. My scalp felt even more tender than before as I began to gently wash my hair. Although I was accustomed to some hair fall while in the shower, I noticed more strands than usual as I worked the shampoo and conditioner into my flaming red hair. Once I finished, I hopped out of the shower and inspected my scalp head in the mirror. Despite the tenderness, I didn’t see anything that would lead me to believe that the hat had already begun the balding process. I toweled off and began drying my hair. I kept my hairdryer on the lowest setting as I worked my way around my head with the brush. More hair than usual began accumulating on the brush, but my hair didn’t look any thinner. Relieved, I got dressed and grabbed a plate of food from the kitchen before joining Matt on the couch. He always instinctively reached over to play with my hair while we watched television. Although he wasn’t doing anything different than usual, his fingers on my tender scalp felt amazing.
“That feels good.” I said with a purr. “Run your hand all the way up the back of my head and onto my crown.”
“Okay.” Matt said as he obliged my request, getting his fingers tangled in my hair along the way. “Sorry. It would be easier if your hair wasn’t so long.”
“What if it wasn’t?” I asked, still enjoying my head rub.
“What do you mean?” Matt asked as he continued to massage my scalp.
“Like, what would you think if I ditched the long hair and went with a shorter style?” I replied. “Much shorter.”
“I think that you would look beautiful no matter what.” Matt said as he worked his fingertips into my scalp.
“Even if I was bald as a cue ball?” I chuckled.
“I’d love you even if you were bald.” He said kissing me on my head. “Someone out there got you thinking about changing up your style?”
“Yep.” I replied with a smile. “Met a woman at the gym that got me thinking.”
“Well, whatever you decide, you’ll always be my beautiful wife.” He said kissing me again.
Later that evening, after Matt went to bed, I made my way back to the bathroom to find the black hat sitting on the counter. Without thinking I pulled the hat back over my head and turned it on before slipping under the covers next to Matt. I just wanted to feel the sensation again for a little before going to sleep. The warmth made me feel so relaxed as I scrolled on my phone. Before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep.
I woke up in the morning to the smell of coffee. As I retreated to the bathroom to pee, I looked in the mirror and noticed that I was still wearing the hat from last night. I slowly peeled the hat from my head and turned it off. The prickling sensation was accompanied by a gentle throbbing. As I sat there on the toilet, I texted Melanie to get some advice.
“I may or may not have fallen asleep with the hat on last night.”
“How does your scalp feel.” She responded
“It doesn’t hurt, but it feels angry.”
“With as long as you wore it, you’re likely going to see some hair loss today. Are you okay?” She responded.
“Yes. I think I’m ready.”
Touching my head, I could feel that my hair felt dry and brittle. Reaching for my brush, I decided to see how much damage the hat had done overnight. Stroke after stroke saw my red hair begin to accumulate on the brush. The more I brushed, the more hair I lost. Before long, I could clearly see my scalp through the hair that was left on my head. Without thinking, I pulled my remaining hair into a ponytail and began tugging lightly on it. Eventually, the bulk of my hair slipped freely from my scalp, leaving behind single strands here and there that seemed to hang on for dear life. Reaching for my leg razor, I quickly severed the stragglers until I was left with a perfectly smooth head. After admiring myself in the mirror, I knew that I needed to leave the bathroom to face the music. I wasn’t quite sure how Matt would react when he saw me, but I felt confident that he would support me, no matter what.
“Baby.” I said sheepishly as I walked to the kitchen.
“Breakfast is almost ready.” Matt replied.
“Can I show you something before we eat?” I asked with my hand on his shoulder.
Matt spun around, startled at my sudden hairlessness. Before he could say anything, I took his hand and placed it on my scalp to allow him to explore my new denuded head.
“You’re bald.” He said as he caressed my head. “Very bald.”
“Yes.” I replied with a purr. “And your hands feel amazing.”
I looked down to see Matt was getting aroused, so I took the opportunity to return the favor. I coaxed him towards an awaiting chair and pulled down his pajama pants, exposing his throbbing penis. He continued to run his finger tips over my scalp as I engulfed him into my mouth. The more he touched my head, the harder I felt him thrust. Before long, when I knew he couldn’t take anymore, I pulled his penis out of my mouth and let him offload all over my scalp.
“Wow.” Was all Matt could muster in the moment.
“I take it you like my little haircut?” I asked, kissing the head of his penis.
“You’re still my beautiful wife.” He replied. “Especially with no hair.”
“Good.” I said grabbing a cloth and wiping his seed from my head. “Because this may be my style for a while.”
So at this stage her hair could still grow back if she stopped wearing the hat?
