Hiroshi leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling of classroom 2-B as the teacher droned on about some complicated algebra formula. His mind wandered far from numbers, drifting through half-formed thoughts, idle curiosities, and the familiar itch of boredom. Around him, the usual hum of teenage life swirled — pencils scratching, papers shuffling, whispers that barely registered over the murmur of the lesson.

Under the table, Yamato and Koji were huddled over a worn manga magazine, smirking and nudging each other. Hiroshi recognized it immediately — one of the adult manga that explored worlds much like their own, where shaved heads or shaved sides were common motifs of intimacy and trust. Yamato’s voice, low and teasing, carried only to their small circle.

“Imagine if Miyu actually did the side shave thing. She’d look… insanely hot,” he whispered.

Koji’s face went red. “Shut up, man! Don’t say that here!”

Hiroshi suppressed a grin, though he couldn’t deny the flutter of curiosity in his chest. The thought lingered: a familiar classmate, someone untouchable and distant, suddenly revealing a hidden side of themselves — a secret of vulnerability only a chosen person could see. In their world, this kind of shaved intimacy wasn’t scandalous; it was intimate, even sacred. Yet the fantasy in his mind added a new thrill he hadn’t felt before.

The bell finally rang, and the teacher’s voice faded as students poured into the hallways. Hiroshi, Yamato, and Koji followed, still whispering about the manga, but Hiroshi’s attention drifted elsewhere. He couldn’t stop thinking about the hidden aspects of people — the layers beneath the everyday appearances, the private gestures that only someone trusted could witness.

Lunch brought its usual chaos. Hiroshi sat with his friends at their corner table, trays clattering as Yamato dissected another ridiculous scene from the magazine, while Koji shook his head, muttering about how absurd it all was. Hiroshi, however, found himself distracted by the subtle details of the cafeteria: the way some of the married female teachers’ heads peeked from beneath neat scarves, the careful adjustments of ponytails or head coverings. In this world, shaved heads and hidden sides were normal — yet observing them made Hiroshi’s curiosity about intimacy and trust grow in ways he couldn’t yet articulate.

Across the room, laughter drew his gaze. Miyu and her friends were chatting at a table near the windows, sunlight catching her long hair, swaying gracefully as she leaned forward to make a point. Hiroshi felt a pang of nervousness and admiration, realizing it wasn’t just physical allure — it was the combination of confidence, intellect, and the unknowable private side that made fascination inevitable.

After lunch, Hiroshi wandered the courtyard, seeking the quiet beneath a tree. Yamato and Koji were off arguing over some trivial game, leaving him a moment of calm. He pulled out a notebook, pretending to sketch while really observing — noticing subtle gestures, how girls adjusted scarves, or fidgeted with strands of hair. His thoughts drifted to what it might mean if someone trusted him with their hidden side, literally and figuratively.

It was during this quiet that he noticed her — a blonde girl standing alone by the fountain, tossing coins absentmindedly into the water. The sunlight caught her hair in sharp streaks, giving her an almost ethereal glow against the muted colors of the courtyard. She seemed out of place yet strangely at ease, distant but aware, a presence that drew his eyes without him intending it.

Hiroshi hesitated before approaching. “Hey,” he called, voice a little awkward, betraying his curiosity.

The girl turned, sharp pale-blue eyes meeting his. A faint smile curved her lips. “Hi,” she said softly. “Are you… talking to me?”

He nodded, waving vaguely toward the fountain. “Yeah… just noticed you were here.”

She laughed lightly, like a wind chime stirred by a breeze. “Fair enough. I’m Sora,” she said, extending her hand.

Hiroshi shook it, heart thumping in his chest. “Hiroshi,” he replied, trying to sound casual.

For the next stretch of time, they walked and talked, discovering shared likes and quirks — favorite foods, books, and music. Sora had a natural balance in conversation, giving enough detail to engage without overwhelming. Hiroshi found himself relaxing in ways he rarely did with anyone new.

At one point, as Sora brushed her hair behind her ear, he caught a subtle detail — a faint line at the side of her head where hair was shorter, almost imperceptibly shaved. His pulse quickened, a mixture of curiosity, excitement, and respect. He didn’t comment; instead, he let the detail linger, a secret dangling just at the edge of understanding.

Hours passed unnoticed, the courtyard transforming under the afternoon sun. By the time they reached the library steps, Sora paused, looking at him seriously.

“Hey, Hiroshi… would it be okay if I transferred to your class?”

He blinked, surprised. “Really? You… want to be in my class?”

Sora nodded, eyes soft but determined. “Yeah. I think it would make things easier… and I kind of like talking to you.”

Hiroshi’s chest tightened. “I… yeah, I think that would be great.”

The bell rang, signaling the end of the day, but neither of them moved right away. Sora smiled, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. “See you tomorrow, Hiroshi.”

And for the first time that day, Hiroshi realized that this ordinary school day had shifted. Something subtle yet profound had begun: a connection, curiosity, and a sense that the hidden side of people — the trust, the vulnerability — could become real, tangible, and meaningful.

As Sora walked away, the sunlight catching her blonde hair, Hiroshi felt it deep inside — this chance encounter was only the beginning.
