Five years ago, Vanda started creating content for TikTok as a hobby. Over the past year and a half, she’s reached the point where she now works full-time as a content creator. One evening, while scrolling through the app, she came across a video. The clip showed a girl with shoulder-length hair getting a short pixie cut, and the video had amassed an impressive number of views.
Vanda began to wonder if she should create a similar video. Although she loved her black, mid-back-length hair, she was starting to get bored with it.
Without much hesitation, she called her hairdresser and booked an appointment for the next day.
The following day, she arrived at her hairdresser, Réka, who ran a small salon in the city center. Vanda had been going to Réka’s salon ever since she moved to the city. Sitting in the chair, she explained to Réka what she had in mind and showed her the video.
“I wouldn’t want it that short, but I’d like something short and bold. Do you have any ideas?” Vanda asked.
“We could go for a short bob with an undercut. It’s short, edgy, but not as drastic as a pixie,” Réka suggested.
“Sounds good. I trust you. Let’s do it!”
Vanda prepared her camera, placing it on the table in front of the mirror. She turned on the recording, then sat back in the chair. Réka carefully tied the hairdressing cape around her, ensuring Vanda would be comfortable during the process. She picked up a large, flat brush and began gently combing through Vanda’s long hair, making sure to detangle it completely.
She sectioned the hair into two layers: the top layer was clipped up securely at the crown, while the bottom layer was left down. From the bottom layer, she divided the hair into three ponytails, fastening each tightly with hair ties. Taking a pair of scissors in hand, Réka began cutting the ponytails one by one with confident, deliberate strokes. She handed the cut ponytails to Vanda, who held them, feeling the weight of her transformation.
Next, Réka retrieved the clippers, attaching a 5-millimeter guard. She turned it on, and its soft buzzing sound filled the room. Starting at the nape of Vanda’s neck, Réka carefully shaved upwards in smooth, precise motions, then moved to the sides to ensure an even cut all around. Hair fell in soft clumps to the floor, and Vanda could already feel the cool air on her neck.
When the undercut was complete, Vanda’s hair was evenly trimmed and felt soft to the touch. Réka paused to assess her work and smiled, satisfied with the result. She then washed Vanda’s hair thoroughly to remove any loose strands.
After the wash, Réka picked up her scissors and comb again. Working meticulously along the comb’s edge, she trimmed the hair to align with Vanda’s jawline. The wet, black strands fell to the floor, creating a growing pile beneath the chair. Réka took extra care to ensure the cut was symmetrical and polished.
Once she finished cutting, Réka grabbed a hairdryer and round brush. She turned on the dryer, directing warm air over the damp hair, and styled it to give it a sleek, voluminous look. To finish, she sprayed a light mist of hairspray to hold the style in place and removed the cape.
Vanda stood up and stepped in front of the large mirror. She ran her fingers through her new short hair, smiling.
“This is amazing! My head has never felt this light before!” she exclaimed.
“It suits you perfectly. It frames your face beautifully,” Réka said with a smile.
After returning home, Vanda invited one of her friends over to take a few photos of her new haircut. She immediately uploaded the pictures to Instagram and began editing the video footage from her salon visit.
