Maya sat at her desk, surrounded by textbooks and notes, but her mind was somewhere else entirely. She fiddled with the end of her long braid, feeling uncomfortable in her usual floral dress. She looked over at her friend, Yee, who sat across from her, typing away on her laptop. Yee’s hair was cut in a short, sporty microbob, with buzzed nape and bangs that framed her face. Maya couldn’t help but envy her friend’s hairstyle.
“Yee, do you ever feel like your hair gets in the way when you’re
studying?” Maya asked, breaking the silence.
Yee looked up from her computer, surprised by the question. “Not really, why?”
Maya sighed. “I don’t know, I just feel like my braid is always in the way. It’s so long and hard to manage, especially when I’m trying to concentrate.”
Yee nodded in understanding. “I can see how that would be distracting. Have you thought about cutting it?”
Maya’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really? Do you think I should?”
Yee grinned. “Absolutely! I think you’d look great with a shorter cut, like mine. It’s so much easier to manage, and it’ll give you a whole new look.”
Maya bit her lip, feeling nervous but excited at the same time. “Okay, I’m convinced. Will you help me cut it?”
“Of course!” Yee said with a smile. “My aunt owns a hair salon nearby. We can go there and she’ll take care of everything.”
Maya felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was grateful to have such a supportive friend. They quickly gathered their things and headed out the door, ready for a new adventure.
As they walked to the salon, Yee chattered away about how much she loved her own haircut and how freeing it was to have short hair. Maya listened intently, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement building inside of her.
When they arrived at the salon, Yee’s aunt greeted them warmly. She was a skilled stylist who had been in the business for years. She took one look at Maya’s long braid and grinned.
“Well, this will be quite the transformation!” she said with a laugh.
Maya couldn’t help but feel a little self-conscious as they sat down in the salon chairs. She watched as Yee’s aunt expertly snipped away at Yee’s hair, refreshing her microbob with a buzzed nape and sides that hung above her earlobes.
Then it was Maya’s turn. Yee’s aunt examined Maya’s long braid with admiration, but Maya was eager to see it go. She expressed her frustration about maintaining her long braid and her desire for a trendy, easy-to-manage haircut like Yee’s.
Yee’s aunt was surprised but delighted to hear Maya’s request. “Well, I’m happy to oblige!” she said with a grin.
As she began to cut away at Maya’s hair, Maya felt a sense of liberation wash over her. She watched as the clippers buzzed away at the nape of her neck, feeling the weight of her long braid disappear with each snip of the scissors.
When Yee’s aunt was finished, Maya couldn’t believe how short her hair was. It was even shorter than Yee’s, with sides that hung just above her earlobes and a buzzed nape that felt cool against her skin.
Yee’s aunt grinned at Yee. “Looks like Maya’s stealing your style!”
Yee laughed. “I’m honored! She looks amazing.”
Maya couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as she looked in the mirror..
“Wow, Maya, you look fantastic. Your hair is perfect for your face shape, and the buzzed nape gives you a chic and edgy look.”
I can’t believe it,” Maya said, grinning from ear to ear. “I look like a completely different person.”
Yee looked at Maya and said, “Your floral dress doesn’t match this trendy microbob. Here, wear my ‘Guess Who’s’ T-shirt instead.”
Maya quickly grabbed the T-shirt with a grin. She went to the salon room to change and came back wearing the T-shirt. Yee grinned at her, and Maya felt so modern and happy with the T-shirt and haircut.
“Welcome to the club,” Yee said, and Maya laughed.
Maya throw away her braid in dustbin and yelled “boo !!!!” at her lifeless braid..
Yee and her aunt grinned, seeing maya convert her self to microbob chic..
Yee’s aunt joked that they looked like twins, and Maya and Yee hugged each other, laughing heavily. As they left the salon, Yee’s aunt laughed at the girls’ hair, which hung 2 inches above the neck.
