Red BobParticipantHi all, again.
Having read what has been said since I last wrote here, I agree with the view that something does need to be done about regulating the likes on stories.
As I go by GMT, I’ve noticed that the likes predominantly spike at an insane likes-per-view ratio, as HairApparent pointed out, between 9 and 11 on the first full day after an upload.
It’s an uneasy situation for me in light of this topic. I’m aware that almost all of my stories are receiving large numbers of likes compared with other writers’ stories, some of which are excellent. That leaves me feeling conflicted, because I don’t know whether it is because my work is genuinely being seen as good, or whether it is the result of a manipulated count or a glitch.
Personally, I judge the success of a story more by how many people comment and engage with you to say they liked it, and I wish more people would see it that way.

Red BobParticipantHi,
I thought it be best that I offer a response of sorts to this post.
I, like yourself, find this all quite bemusing that my stories have acquired the amount of likes they have. Especially when, as you’ve said, there are many talented authors who post some amazing stories on here and don’t get anywhere near the number of likes they deserve for their pieces.
I have been a casual reader on this site from its early inception, after the old 1HSS site ceased.
Posting my stories has never been about getting likes, or any recognition for that matter. I just wanted to tell a story, but present it differently to most of the other stories and give readers a visual reference to the characters.
Now I don’t know if the use of imagery has a baring on the numbers of likes, or like you said, they are all down to a glitch. Either way, I actually find it all a bit uncomfortable.
All I want to do is to enjoy writing and sharing my work – likes or no likes
