Would it be possible to set the page up so that stories posted within the last two weeks or so are displayed?
It feels like some stories could be “lost to the mists” when a large number of stories are posted within a short amount of time. Once a story moves off the front page, it can be difficult to notice.26th March 2021 at 12:42 am #33384klaatu48ParticipantFor example, currently 11 out of the 20 new stories are by one author, with none older than 6 days. If someone visits this site once a week, they’ll have missed some stories and never know they existed.
5th April 2021 at 5:54 am #33586ABParticipantYes, it would be nice if stories didn’t get buried so quickly!
8th April 2021 at 12:38 pm #33655HSN AdminKeymasterI’ll take a look at this.
You can always visit https://www.hairstorynetwork.com/stories/ and sort the table by date.
8th April 2021 at 7:32 pm #33668klaatu48ParticipantThank you! The date sort doesn’t seem to work quite right — For example, AB’s latest story, Don’t forget to lock the door (part two)!, doesn’t show up, as well as several stories that were posted on April 6. The one I posted on March 26th (Seizing the Opportunity) isn’t there either. (Could it be it only shows the last/latest story to be posted on each date?)
Maybe having an alphabetical list of all the authors who have contributed would help, so we can scan it and say, “Oh yeah! I like that person’s stuff!” and see if they’ve added anything new. I know there are a lot of authors here I like, but I have trouble remembering their pseudonyms perfectly.
Thank you so much for doing everything you do with this site.
9th April 2021 at 4:49 pm #33682AnonymousInactiveWith all due respect, why not take look at addressing the problem from the source … authors that abuse the HSN site with total disregard for anyone except themselves. To be more direct … the writers who submit multiple stories at one time have absolutely no respect for the HSN site, or all the other writers who submit stories. And, if it’s even possible to add insult to injury, quite often their stories are extremely short (one page), not very well written and often hard to read because of bizarre spacing, poor grammar, punctuation issues … etc.
Solution: First, you can’t easily fix stupidity. It never ceases to amaze me the lack of respect for a system, and other people, that a lot of people flagrantly display. So what can be done. How about a new house rule. A writer may only submit one story a week. Period. End of conversation.
Ok, maybe not entirely the end. What about all those one page literary masterpieces? Yeah, I know. It’s not a perfect world. Never has been. Never will be. However, if any of the more ‘inexperienced’ writers actually cared about writing more interesting and easier to read stories … all they would need to do is read a few time tested stories submitted by other popular authors, and learn. Yeah … that’s not going to happen.
Final note. In all seriousness, I have the utmost respect for so many of the talented writers on this site, as well as its predecessor site. Like Rayzor, Ginger, and a few others, I have written stories for both sites … for quite a few years (my other pen name was Fantasy Girl). My point is … things have changed since the turn of the century. Particularly as it pertains to computers and cell phones. Now everyone can be heard, instantaneously. All around the world. And, I would offer that while many of these changes are positive, there is always a downside. Such as stupidity and insensitivity to the world around you.
Good luck trying to fix that.

11th April 2021 at 8:01 am #33713totallyhairlessParticipantI agree with Jenna (Insatiable) on this. That said, I wouldn’t want to dissuade less experienced or talented writers from posting their stories (I don’t claim to be any good myself) but I don’t like to see the site being ‘bombarded’ with stories by the same author. I would agree that a limit should be imposed – maybe one a week is a little too restrictive but a limit of two or three should be more than adequate.
13th April 2021 at 4:24 am #33775ABParticipantI feel like I should point out that currently nine of the 20 stories featured on the homepage are by two authors. I haven’t clicked through to see any of the contacts, but I have a feeling we’re getting more of the sort of stories described above.
13th April 2021 at 5:00 am #33776ABParticipantAlso, I just checked and sorting all stories by date leaves a LOT of stories out.
13th April 2021 at 8:32 am #33780ABParticipantI may have just stayed up to write a new story I wasn’t planning on writing just to try to push some of the bad actors down the page one notch. It is far from my best work but I am an angry and vengeful god.
13th April 2021 at 1:48 pm #33785klaatu48ParticipantI obviously think this is a topic worthy of discussion, but let’s try to give the frequent posters the benefit of the doubt. I prefer to view them as… perhaps overeager if anything. We should encourage contributions here, but it would be nice if we could make sure other contributions weren’t lost in the resulting tidal waves.
13th April 2021 at 4:23 pm #33787ABParticipantI don’t know, maybe it’s because I come from a professional writing background (in very, very different genres…I use an alias here for a reason) but I think that any time an author or a small group of authors takes advantage of a platform to silence or hide the work of others, they’re acting in bad faith. If these were all stories they’d clearly slaved over and just happened to post all at once, that would be one thing (but you can “schedule” publications, so they could have easily trickled out 1-2/day over the period of a week), but based on the actual content I don’t think that’s what’s going on here. This feels a lot more like the folks in my grad program who ALWAYS NEEDED TO BE HEARD over everyone else—the ones who would hand in essays or short stories that were more than twice the required length, go on long tirades during workshops that were ultimately more about themselves than the writer being critiqued, etc. You see these people on panels at literary conferences, too. And on Twitter, etc.
All of which is to say, my own personal experience makes me disinclined to give them the benefit of the doubt here.
20th April 2021 at 3:02 pm #33971Karla LiebrandtParticipantFor all of you out there who are interested, I have recently posted a true story about my very first hair cut. It is under the “Consensual” category. Happy reading! Love, Karla.
22nd April 2021 at 12:26 am #34038Ginger HertenParticipantI’m somewhat tempted to say, that if story dumps inspire AB to stay up writing possibly they should be encouraged.
Joking aside… What would be perfect, would be that when an author publishes multiple stories in a very short amount of time, is if they could automatically be clumped together. I have absolutely no idea if that is technically possible though, or how it would be done if it is. So it may just be as much of a fantasy as my stories are.
22nd April 2021 at 5:28 am #34043ABParticipantI’m somewhat tempted to say, that if story dumps inspire AB to stay up writing possibly they should be encouraged.
I am exceptionally flattered by that, given the source. Unfortunately my partner isn’t aware of this side-hobby of mine and when I wind up coming to bed SUPER LATE because I was up writing except then said partner wants to know what I was writing and it gets complicated.
It might be possible to list “New posts by:” and then list the authors, and you can expand/hover/something (I know there’s a word for what I’m describing but it’s late and I’ve been doing a lot of non-HSN writing this week, so I’m just about clear out of words) to expand and show you the titles. The only problem then is that newer, less recognizable writers might get overlooked because the draw of the title won’t be as prominent.
