I’ve seen style guides suggesting that numbers up to ten (or sometimes twenty) should be spelled out, and above that as numerals. But I think those related to factual writing, news reports and so on.

For fiction, I’d tend more towards spelling out, especially in speech.

“Four hundred and fifty eight dollars?” He exclaimed.

seems to convey more than

“$458?” he exclaimed.

One time I would tend to use numerals is when describing written down numbers, perhaps a sign with a house number, or an invoice, I suppose as they would be numerical in reality.

Makes sense to me, on all counts. Personally, I’d set it at one story per day. I don’t see that anyone can write faster than that, and still give stories the care and attention they deserve.

Of course, if you’re not writing them yourself, but getting AI to do it, then it’s easy to make them faster than that, but in that case, a little restraint doesn’t seem like a bad thing.

Ah, the dreaded ‘Smart Quotes’. I don’t have an ipad to check, but you should be able to turn them off in settings.

I don’t seem to be able to post links here, but I googled ‘type standard quotes on ipad’ and found an answer pretty quickly.

Hmm… now I’ve actually tried to do it, those instructions don’t make sense! I think a story is a ‘page’ in their world. But I think the problem is that those instructions are for a newer version of wordpress than we’re running here, as I can’t see any way to add the ‘anchor’.

So, I think you have to do it a bit more manually, by inserting HTML tags.

On the ‘Edit Story’ page, the main text box has two tabs, ‘Visual’ and ‘Text’. If you click on ‘Text’ then you can see (and edit) the HTML. The clickable bits are enclosed in tags, and the places they link to are in <span> </span> tags.

It may look a little different in different versions of wordpress, but hopefully not too much.

Having skimmed it, the process is:

o Add an *anchor* to the paragraph you want to link to (e.g. section-three)
o Type the text at the top that you want to click to go to the paragraph.
o Add a *link* to this text. The *link* is the *anchor* with # in front (so, #section-three)

That’s it, I think.
