Took me about three minutes to find one of my own (“Don’t Be Impulsive,” though under a different title).

The fact that the narrator says “it took a asterisk bite asterisk of her hair” where I assume the text should have been bold is all you need to know about the level of care given.

The Internet really is doing all it can to crush people’s creative drives.

I think it’s pretty easy to feature long hair in a story — It may not be an active plot, but I’d certainly be interested in detailed hairplay as the main character thinks about why she loves her hair or struggles with pressure to cut it, and what life might be like without it, before deciding to keep it.

Of course I’d like to know there won’t be any cutting at the start, or it might be a bit of a tease. 🙂

My story “Pillow Talk” was kind of like that until the end when the cutting happens.

I’ll admit my drive to write and share has been dampened *a lot* by the tendency of new stories to disappear under the constant volume of output by the mediocrity machine known as AI.

Ideas keep coming, but it’s hard convincing myself to spend a few hours releasing them from my head knowing not many people may see them.

AI art is theft.

But images in stories are fine by me… The Sims 4 thread over on HVIDS makes heavy use of them, and I always enjoyed those stories.

Spoken dialogue is always spelled out, in my mind (see the comment above). But in prose, I think it just depends on the flow. Newspapers and Universities have specific guidelines, but those are for very formal writing. Fiction can be much looser.

“He went to the twelfth floor” works better than “He went to the 12th floor”
But
“He went to floor 12” looks better than “He went to floor twelve”

At least in my mind.

I agree that removing stories for quality reasons (except in egregious cases) would be a slippery slope. However, saying “You’re a newbie, so please only post X per day!” isn’t the same thing, I don’t think. Then when they hot 10 or 20 stories, maybe they go up to 3 a day (again, judging on quality could be slippery).

The purpose isn’t to discourage people from writing, but to make sure people aren’t discouraged from visiting the page because of a slew of stories from a single source taking over the front page. At least in my opinion.

I certainly wouldn’t object to a limit, but maybe add an explanation to the front page saying we appreciate everyone’s contribution, but limit it to one a day to lighten the load on servers (I have no idea if it’s true, but it sounds good) and to give every story a chance to get noticed?
